Title: Transmission crossmember
Post by: jpc647 on November 22, 2008, 03:08:02 PM
Does anyone have any pictures of a 87-88 v8 transmission? I'm looking for a pictures of the back showing the crossmember, the catalytic conv. hanger, and how it connects to the transmisson. I'm missing something, and pictures would show what I need. Its some kind of a mounting piece.
If you like, email them to jpc647@charter.net

Would this mounting piece be the same on a 88 v6 transmission?

Thanks Guys

TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER
A lot of Cougars and Thunderbirds from 1983-88 have the "double-hump" transmission crossmember from the factory. So if you have one, there's one thing you don't have to worry about...otherwise you'll have to hunt one down. This crossmember is so named because it has the two humps necessary to clear a dual exhaust system. Some cars only had the single crossmember, meaning it won't work with duals. You can find one from any 5.0 Mustang from 1986-93.

It looks the exact same as stock, but it has two humps.

The hanger should sandwich between the tranny and tranny mount.

what type of transmission is this one master blaster?  My yoke on my aod does not transition to a round flat surface, its a knuckle.

Now put a floor shifter in it.

Stock 88 5.0 AOD. The ring is some kind of vibration damper, I think.

Well, I've had this stuff in a plastic bin in the closet for 11 years... I wonder if I'll ever do anything with it?  :disappoin

Is the exhaust hanger on the transmission supposed to be curled up like that? I thought they were curled down.
