Post by: vinnietbird on November 18, 2008, 10:39:54 PM
Here are a few pics I just took of the Sport.I'm taking off work tomorrow to do more sanding.I have NOS head lights and corner lights,NOS fog lights, new emblems for the entire car,new "made for this Sport" wheel center caps, and a whole bunch more parts on the shelves waiting for paint to happen before I can install them. For now, here are the pics..........

I'm running way behind, but I'm getting there. The Sport should be wearing new paint within the next 3 weeks.

Looks worse than I thought, in a good way...
I didnt think it needed that much body work. Sill looks better than mine does and I have 1/3 with real paint still.

The lower passenger side rear 1/4 panel was creased from wheel to bumper. That was the worst part. The front fenders and doors were replaced by me a few weeks ago.Not much wrong with them (nothing wrong now),and the rest of the entire car was sourced from donor cars.I think in about 10 work hours I can have it ready for paint. In just a few weeks, she'll look brand new.

Lookin good Vin. What kind of tips are those? They look like the newer 04+ GP tips. Need an exhaust vid. You still going with Estate Green?
Title: In progress Sport pics....

That's going to be a nice pre-Christmas present. Looking at the front kinda makes me dizzy. LOL Nice work, but are you using your air tools? :D
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on November 19, 2008, 09:22:08 AM
Air tools?Um......well......not yet.I'm breaking them out for the strut bushing and front spring swap very soon.
I think I am going to stay with estate Green. Now,that choice may change when I get to the shop and I'm looking at the color charts.I do like that color though.
The tips are double walled, chromed stainless steel.Heavy and really nice.I'll be working on the car all day today.I'm going to pull the taillights after I splice in two connectors for the sequentials so I don't have to remove the inner sockets from the light assemblies so I can behind them,I also have to pull the header panel and lights. That's no big deal at all.A few minutes at the most to remove them.
I wish I could take a video with sound. The 40 series Flowmasters with the E303 cam sounds really good.More pics as things happen.I have a lot more sanding to do,but other than a very shallow (about 5 inches in diameter) dent in the roof, all of the dings and such are taken care of.I'm going to turn on some music and get crazy today. It's actually kind of relaxing out there all alone. It was a good day to take off work today to work as well. It's supposed to be 77 degrees.Perfect.

WOW-I finally get to see your car. OK here comes the questions. Are you keeping those exhaust tips and is there another set on the right side? Are you painting the moldings body color? What about the chrome in the moldings? replacing it/painting it/removing it? And are you going to put moldings on the middle of the car?(door-under the 1/4 window-behind front wheel). My hand hurts-I'll ask more later.
Title: In progress Sport pics....

A more important question would be.....
was that a ham and cheese sammich???mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Perhaps it was a grilled cheese sammich ?
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on November 19, 2008, 04:32:05 PM
o.K.,here we go......
-YES,there are matching tips on the right side as well as the left. -The black body line trim will remain black with the chrome strip. -The trim between the fender openings (front to back) will remain off.Only the leading edge fender trim, and rear fender trim will remain. -The car was originally gold.It had a second coat of paint applied at some point in it's life without prep work, and a lot of it was peeking and flaking off.I've removed the entire second coat of paint. -The sammich was roast beef on HomePride wheat bread.
Thanks for the compliments on the Sport.I got the doors finished today.More sanding after work tomorrow.I'm nearly ready.WOO-HOO !!!!!

Horseradish? We don't eat no stinkin' horseradish down here.
Oh,and the answer would be "No",I haven't sanded the door jambs yet. That's coming up Friday.....weather permitting.I'm getting the outside finished first.I still have to install the plugs for the tail lights so i can pull them and sand behind them as well.Easy stuff compared to all that's gone on with that car.Labor of love.

looking good man, took me 2 weeks to hand sand the '83, looks good, could've been better, my dumb fat ass cousin chipped the paint, decided she was gonna plop herself on the front of the car, shifted the unbolted hood and chipped the paint, wonder she didn't break the fiberglass header panel:flame:

The engine is really dirty....which really hurts.I had that thing looking sweet for a long time. With the work going on and driving every day,no time to clean it up.After paint,I'll detail it really nice to it's former glory.Polished aluminum and all.

I dunno, seeing the car when I went to pick it up was pretty awesome, and all i had to do was pay and drive it home. (It didn't hurt that insurance paid for most of it either.) :hick: :giggle:
Oh, and what's estate green look like? I wonder how Sage Green would look a Thunderbird. I love that color on Mustangs.
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on November 20, 2008, 06:56:12 AM
I've only seen Estate Green on Ford SUV's (Mostly Navigators) and 1 model of the Lincoln (based on what I've seen locally) .It MAY be close to a sage green.I've had a couple of colors run through my top 3 list, and I wanted something that looks great, not so eye popping that it's the first car recognized, yet can still attract some attention.Hard to explain.

Does a light gray interior look good with a green exterior?
Title: In progress Sport pics....

Here's a wrecked sage green four-eye 'Bird (this was my buddy's car, it was originally "light" sage green and he painted it sage green): (http://www.foxthundercats.com/images/timswreck.jpg)
...And here is a "light" sage green T-Bird. This is the colour the wrecked car above originally was, and is also the colour my first T-Bird was. This is actually similar to the Estate green Vinnie is talking about (a light metallic green with a slight gold tint). This is not a photo of my old 'Bird (mine didn't have the right mirror and had a charcoal interior, and had the base hubcaps) but I have no photos of that car, so I kept this photo as a facsimile: (http://www.foxthundercats.com/images/sagegreenbird.JPG)

Excellent choice Vinnie. Classy and understated. Nothing wrong with keeping the color subtle and letting the craftsmanship do the talking. If you've built a nice car, it doesn't have to be neon orange to get the attention it deserves.

I'm having a hard time picturing it with the black moldings. What rims are you going with? Are you going to tint the windows? I think it's going to look real good when it's finished. I think I'm not the only one that wants to see some more progress pics.
Title: In progress Sport pics....

It'll have the window trim, door locks, door handles in black, and the chrome Cobra R rims with my custom center caps.I watched the banner and looked at all the cars up there,I went to NATO and looked at all of those, and decided I wanted something that wasn't like anyone else's,yet still has a "Built by Ford" look over all.I really didn't want a red, gold,or blue Bird (Had those),and I don't want to copy anyone else.Hence the reason I modified my intake the way I did.I hope that it will attract more second looks than first looks. It's supposed to be a high only in the 40's tomorrow, but I'll try to get some daylight pics. Here are the center caps for the wheels and a couple more..........
The caps.... (http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/000_0956.jpg)
the engine..... (http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/000_0509.jpg)
The car when I got it to the house (the wheels were my extra set).... (http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/100_1728.jpg)

I've always wanted a dark green TC with the red pinstripe, red Cobra R center caps on silver R's, and red Cobra calipers. I don't know why. But I will have it one day.
I really like the color you chose too, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I'm getting ready to go pull the rear bumper cover off and get it ready, then the tail lights so I can sand behind them as well. Then, this weekend I'll swap the trim on the doors from chrome to black. It's SUPPOSED to be 70 degrees this Sunday (we'll see).If so,then after work I'm going to work like there's no tomorrow.

Thanks for your thoughts. What color is your car going to be?I personally don't want mine to look like anyone else's.I want it to be unique to itself.I don't want a color that SCREAMS "look at me !!!".Believe me,the car will be able to stand out as a nice car.I've done a lot to it.My whole idea from the start was to modify the car,yet have it look as though Ford built it that way,not like I did it.I want everything to look "right".There are colors that a lot of members already have that make me want to find a unique color that will keep the Sport very nice, yet, hopefully, one of a kind.

I am VERY interested to see how it looks. My first thought is, unsurprisingly, "ick" but as I looked at that ebay expedition more, I wondered. I think it might actually be really neat. If nothing else, yes it will stand out very well!!! I actually saw a rather beat-up half-primered 87/88 turbocoupe today on the main drag through town. NEVER EVER see any thundercats around here...especially not the birds. Stood out like a sore thumb...woulda screamed at me if it were "Estate Green"!

When it comes to colors, everyone likes what they like.If were all up to one person's ideas, there wouldn't be so many colors offered.I have three ideas, and I'm waiting to get to the paint shop and look in the books for the final push in the right direction.Whatever color I decide on,I'm sure it'll please me.I don't want the car to look like a race car,or hot rod.I want a really nice, somewhat subtle car.I guess I could loosely say a "sleeper".

The rectangle Australian tips went away.I wanted something different that looked like they "fit" a little better. The round tips match up well with the tail lights. Now,I'm working frantically for the remaining funds to paint the old girl.
Thanks T-Chicken.I am still strongly thinking of the Estate green. That may change, but will,in the end, probably be the color I go with.

I found paint chips didn't help me one bit. The colors looked too different on the cars. I spent alot of time driving around to car dealerships, new and used!

I've done that as well.I have a few ideas to fall back on.The Estate Green may give way to an alternate idea. We'll be checking out colors all over til we are able to get the car up there for paint.

Well,it appears....for now....that I'm taking the Sport up for paint Saturday morning.I'll take pics before paint, and after.
I installed the NOS door locks and ignition tumbler, glove box lock, and trunk lock after paint. All NOS parts and all with genuine "Turbo" keys.Cool.

We're leaving around 8:30 this morning to take the Sport. We have an official color chosen, although I don't know the name of it yet, but,I'll have the name when I get there. It's a shade under Estate Green, and a shade above the citrus green on the new Mustangs. It was on a Jeep Liberty we saw.

Lately I've looked at the new Explorer with 2008 Stone Green Clearcoat Metallic coupled with black roof for my Fairlane. It's a bit lighter than Jeep Rescue Green, but now I have to say that green looks pretty good.

No Stang driving for me,but, thanks for the idea.I'm just going to sit around and wait, and finish getting the trim pieces ready.
As far as the color goes,it's close to the Stang pic above. The color is called "Effect Green".It's a Dupont color.Primer/sealer,paint,then clear coat.He said to be there next Saturday morning for pick-up.I have the new headlights ready, and I'm really too tired to do anything else right now.I was nearly two o'clock this morning before I went to bed, then up at 6:00 this morning.Time for a shower,a glass of sweet tea,and then a little chill time.

You do have your ride ready for the paint shop. I'm really looking forward to seeing that thing when it's done and what this "Effect Green" looks like. You've got to be beside yourself, waiting to see what it will look like when it's done.

I'll be the first to admit,I'm really anxious, and a little uncomfortable.I never liked leaving my car with a shop, especially over night, much less a week.I have always been bothered about a stranger driving it as well.I know that sounds foolish, but I take the car really personal. The Sport and IO have bonded pretty tight.Anyway....I am getting excited and I really can't explain the color. It's like Estate Green, but a shade lighter.Gayle picked it out.Once I pick it up,I'll take pics,as well as pics after everything is installed (emblems, lights, etc).I'll get the fog lights and harness installed as well.Lot's to do.
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: ZondaC12 on December 14, 2008, 07:51:54 PM
Vinnie I am with you 100% on holding it tight and not letting anyone take it out. It's yours, you make the decision. I've never had any of my friends ask me to borrow my car...my one friend has let two different people borrow his beretta DD and both times there were problems. Who knows if they were the fault of the drivers but knowing them they DID definitely beat the out of the poor thing.
I see that and become less and less of a nice person each time. I'm not trying to be a jerk...but I would never even want to drive someone else's car. I abuse my own stuff sometimes. When I'm using or handling something that doesn't belong to me I treat it like it's made of glass. But I'd still be afraid of a freak accident under my watch. I can't believe others don't treat things that aren't theirs the same way. But they don't. Oh well. I've talked to fellow old car hobbyists that have seen spectators let their kids CLIMB on valuable rare antique cars at shows. It's sad but true.
You put the time money and effort into it, it would be a shame if anything happened that could have easily been prevented. No excuse for carelessness. Give 'em a hellride though so they know what they're missin.   :rollin:
Oh and...

I have no idea what the status is on the Sport, and I'm not calling them.I almost did today and decided to wait.I get nervous and anxious.I probably have some sort of OCD with the Sport.I don't know if I'll post pics of the car when I get it home,or wait til I get it assembled.I'll probably post pics as each little bit of progress occurs.Black trim and new chrome for the bumper covers, side trim, lights, emblems, door trim, etc.

actually,I haven't seen anything with this color. My wife picked the color from a book of Dupont colors. She said she saw the color on a Nissan Xterra yesterday on the way home,I didn't see it.It's not a color that one would see everyday, but not a color that looks stupid on this car either.I've said before,on a Mustang, almost any color will work.On our cars, there are just some colors that do NOT belong on them. These cars are more "upscale" so to speak to pull off certain colors.I didn't want the Sport to look out of place, but I didn't want it to scream "look at me !!".Begging for attention is not cool.It has to be cool just because it is.No effort..

Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on December 22, 2008, 09:50:11 AM
Not yet,but I'm working on it.LOL
The gas lid was left "Natural billet" as seen on my blue Thunderbird in the banner.I wanted to re-use the lid, but,I didn't want a big silver dot on the side of my green car,so,I had them paint it to match.I figured with the black trim on the car (all black as the Sport should be),the green lid and black fasteners would look good, and look like it belongs. That's the whole idea with this car, everything needs to "fit" as if it were built that way.I don't want the car to look like it has a bunch of cheap just thrown on because it's easy to stick onto a car.Tasteful, low profile, functional.I try to use Ford parts wherever possible. Some parts have to be sourced outside the Ford parts bin simply because Ford didn't make what I need, like the exhaust tips that fit the rear bumper for example.I am using a Hurst pistol grip shifter, but as soon as I can find the replacement I've been looking for,the Hurst shifter handle is gone. The one I want is called the Kowolski.I can't seem to find the add I first saw it in.It was mean looking.Little things can make big difference.

Vinnie Im digging that color for some sick odd reason. What paint code is that? Its gotta be a common 70's color. Anyway, that color bumps the cars age appearance forward 10 or 15 years.
I too think that paint rocks..it's hard to explain...it's really grabbing, yet not too "over the top" or words to that meaning. Basically, what I'm saying is...it's frickin' awesome! lol :D

The boxes are starting to get opened and parts being used.I still have quite a ways to go.I keep telling myself that everything i do is one small step closer to being done. After all this time,a few more weeks won't make a big difference.

The chrome trim I removed had a few rivets holding it on.I popped them off with a sharp screwdriver and a hammer, then re-drilled holes and used small self tapping screws.Worked great. The process of swapping the entire chrome door trim from chrome to black took about 45 minutes (my door panels are already off for other work). No big deal really. The Mach 1 chin sopoiler looks awesome, and was pretty straight forward to install. It came in a huge flat box and had fasteners with it.I didn't use them.I used nuts, washers and bolts.I used twelve fasteners to attach it to the car.The ends had to be trimmed because the spoiler is too long at the wheel openings. The ol' Dremmel and cutoff wheel took care of that in seconds after I marked the material to be moved with a Sharpie marker.WAY better than the little factory piece. The 1/4 windows also were easy.Remove the interior c-pillar panel, remove the window nuts, remove the window, remove the sealant left behind (it just peeled right off),add new sealant, install the window into it's new home,re-install the nuts and interior, done.Good progress today.

The Bird will be down tomorrow.I may replace the u-joints and paint the bumper and window trim if it's warm.Otherwise,TV all day,and rest before work on Monday.
I very well may install my '04 Bullitt gas lid as well.It was painted to match the car,and I bought black fasteners for it.Nice.

Thanks Zonda,I really appreciate those remarks.I like to hear good and bad.So far,I think I'm keeping everything tasteful. That's part of my design I have going for the Sport.I have a book that has everything in it.What I want to do,what's done. What parts I have. What parts I need, and drawings and ideas that I take a lot of time to decide if I want to put them to actual use.I have my own "design" that I have been striving for.So far so good.I want the Sport to stand out from the rest in a good way, yet, not be over the top,or borderline .Everything should look like it belongs on the car,not like it was an Autozone add on.I'm still debating on pin stripes.Little thin ones around the upper body lines.I'll have to finish the trim and all before I make that decision.Tomorrow,I'll post a pic or two of the Mach 1 spoiler.I walked a ways back from the car and took a look at it.I like it,and it looks like it was made to be there.

The carpet behind the driver seat was solid with dried soda and whatever else. You could knock on it....literally.The whole interior was wasted.Tons of coins under the seat (the ONLY bonus).LOT'S of smoking went on in the car.The interior pics above was after I cleaned most all of the out of it.It took two large trash bags. The wheels were my "trailering" wheels. It came with aftermarket 14x6 directional py aluminum wheels. It did have great tires though.I keep my eye open for some poor idiot with a 4 banger Stang and steel wheels so I can donate them.

Post by: vinnietbird on December 29, 2008, 09:39:58 AM
It took me about an hour and a half.I was trying to protect the paint on it and the car,so,I went slow.First,it was on my blue Thunderbird (in the banner),and I had forgotten how I installed it.Anyway.......From a personal standpoint,If you have a gray car,or very light colored car (white, gold),then the lid would look good natural aluminum. If you have a darker car,as my blue one was,I would color match the lid.To me,even on my old Bird, the gas lid was distracting and looked like a big silver dot on the side of the car,and didn't really have anything it matched. It was somewhat out of place. That is my own opinion, and the ultimate decision is of the the owner and what he/she likes on their own car.I think the painted lid has a more "finished" look.
These lids can be had on Ebay fairly cheap at times on Ebay.I got mine through Ford when the Bullitts were new. Here are the steps I took to install the Bullitt lid on the Sport................
1. I removed the gas cap (so I could fit my hands in that tiny area),screws that holds the inner filler area to the car and the two rubber bump stops that cushions the fuel door when it closes.
2.I test fit the Bullitt lid.It sat in too deep for me,I wanted it flush with the body,so,I have some thick gasket material,I traced the gas lid onto it,then cut it out about a 1/8 of an inch smaller because the back of the Bullitt lid is tapered. After making the gasket "ring" and tpuppies it to fit around the gas lid hinge, and cutting holes for the 6 fasteners, fit the lid and the gasket to the car.Everything was flush,I'm happy.
3.Using the gasket as a template,I fit it to the car,and checked that all 6 gas lid fasteners would have a place to bolt down.3 didn't.I used a Sharpie marker to draw dots where I needed to drill or remove metal (all very simple mods, and the stock lid can be re-installed if need be).
4.Looking at the gas lid area,at about the 8 and 10 o'clock positions,I drilled two holes through the body and the filler are plastic and metal framing for the gas lid fasteners.
5. At about the 3 o'clock position,I used my Dremmel and cutoff wheel to remove about a half square inch of metal that was in the way.
6. I taped the car off REALLY good and painted the recessed gas lid area of the body black.
7. I applied a very thin layer of black RTV to the lowest flat area of the body where the gas lid fits to hold the gasket in place.
8.I installed the gas lid with black cap screws (1 inch long allen head bolts, whatever) and small washers and locking nuts (5/16 head) after making SURE it was centered. It's easy to let it fall a little and bolt it on crooked.
Note: if you're keeping the gas lid natural aluminum, you will still have to bey new fasteners (I used stainless buttonhead screws on the blue car). The bolts that come with the gas lid new will not work.Half of them are decoration only.I removed them all (just unscrew them) and tossed them away for the new fasteners..
9. Took pics of the gas lid so people here wouldn't yell at me.
10. Done.

Yes it does.Once the trim pieces get here,I'll install them.I should have the bumper cover trim painted by then (hopefully today0,and have the new chrome strip installed as well.

No,the 6 bolts that go around the perimeter of the lid hold it onto the car,the gas lid has it's own hinge that is self contained. The outer ring of the lid and the center part are two separate pieces.Very solid as well.

I got it from P-71 (Aerobird Motorsports) before he disappeared.I've had it for about a year and it's a perfect fit,and looks awesome.#m tape just like the factory..I saw some that is very similar at Pep Boys when I was bringing the car home from paint, but didn't really pay a lot of attention to it since I already had a roll..I think I have enough left for at least one bumper (possibly two).Do you want it,Jerry? If so,say the word.I owe you anyway for all your help.

Thanks a lot guys.I hope to get a little more done today.I'll also try to get a 3/4 shot soon.
The rectangle Australian Ford Falcon tips are long gone.I wanted the round tips because i got a killer deal on them (double walled chromed stainless),and they kind of match the tail lights. It all kinda "works together".

Hey Vinnie I'm really diggin that fuel door. Question though...were you able to retain the fuel door release function(button in the glove box) or is it manual operation now? Also I love the thunderbird script on the trunk lid....looks so much better than the stock piece.

Manual operation now.I don't mind,I have to open it anyway. There is a version that is automatic, the door pops out and rolls forward.Wicked expensive, though.I can always buy a locking gas cap if I need to,but when it was on the other car,it was fine and I never had a problem.

Sorry for ignorong you.I was remodeling a bathroom most of yesterday..I used bumper trim paint after sanding the area to be painted and laying down a light coat of green self etching primer.I hope that helps.I can post the brand when I find it.LOL.I think it's Duplicolor. It has a nice semi gloss sheen to it.Not too shiny, not too flat.I also cleaned the surface really good with Windex ( or alcohol pads).Cleeeeeeeean surface.I ised a high quality masking tape as well with a really sharp edge for a clean line.

Here's another reason. Do you typically challenge cars you think will beat you? No! When your car had a patchwork paint job, people probably thought "Redneck beater, I can take this guy." Now that it's painted, they're probably thinking, "Wow, sharp car, that thing really looks fast." and are too intimidated to challenge you. You're now like the Fonz, you don't even have to race, everyone just assumes you're cool. :burnout:
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on January 04, 2009, 11:54:46 PM
I don't really think the Sport looks fast (My opinion is from the inside looking out....so to speak).Maybe it's because I think the car looks more "odd" to most people.I haven't seen another Bird in a long time around this town.

you need the side moulding... it looks unfinished in the middle
Title: In progress Sport pics....
Post by: vinnietbird on January 08, 2009, 05:51:08 PM
I've thought about it,but I kind of like the natural body line, and, unless the middle trim is in excellent shape,no deal. Most of the side trim I've seen either has cracked chrome strips,or is curled on the corners towards the back of the door.If I could find NOS stuff.maybe.I like the way it looks though.I was afraid that the center trim would be a huge distraction.
You can't see them, but it has light charcoal gray pin stripes. They'll probably give way to slightly darker stripes later.I like the subtle look of them though.Much easier to see in person than in pics.

I struggled with the same thing Vinnie. I ended up putting the side trim back on and I'm glad I did. It does kind of suck to have all new paint and then side trim with py looking chrome strips, but I like the look a lot better. Especially with black trim.

Although the car looks awesome,I have to agree,it needs the side molding.
when I had my car repainted,I removed the metal strip that is on the backside of the molding, this is what causes the curling.I then had all the molding repainted(makes it look brand new).

no pic yet,but one's coming.I removed the charcoal gray pin stripes today that were almost invisible, and replaced them with "black stardust" 3M stripes. They are much better than the Autozone/O'Reillys type stripes. They look great....and you can actually see them.LOL.

Vinnie you've done it dagnabbit you've done it! you basically stole my dream out from under me. if only i could drive it. PLEASE post more pics. you probably wouldnt agree which alot wouldnt, but i'd say get a dark green tint. no im not talkin yellow honda civic with yellow tint deal. you know the mint green tint that comes factory on very high end cars? that, but just a bit darker than stock, like 5% darker or less. :makefun:
:deal: its in the details, the details! :deal:

Thanks a lot,I appreciate the great comments.I agree about it being in the details, but green tint won't cut it.I want it typical black to match the rest of the black trim.Subtle and understated is what I want.Other than the exact color choice (which has now been decided obviously),everything has been planned from the beginning.I had a mental design, then wrote everything down, what I have, what I want and need, and what I have to assemble/install to make it happen.I'm just following the instructions now.LOL.

At this point, the Sport will probably remain the same for a while. If I go body color with the trim, that will also mean re-painting the bumper covers. No way.I'm pretty happy with the car right now,and also like the black trim that is there to break up all that green.

Small update (pics coming up later today). It appeared after pulling into the driveway the other day,I gently sed the chin spoiler (We all have done that),and I looked underneath the Sport to see if all was well.It was.Well, the more I looked, the lower the center of the bumper cover seemed to be(The bottom of course).I got to thinking, and needed to raise the center up a little, but couldn't figure out how. So,I finally had an idea.I got two "L" brackets and put them back to back (after drilling the holes a little larger for the fasteners I was going to use).I placed them on the inside leading edge of the bumper cover and drilled holes through the bumper cover. After bolting the two "L" brackets to the bumper cover (still back to back),I then drilled a hole into the hood latch bracket down low.I had a piece of aluminum left over from making my EGR delete plate and made an "extender".Now,I bolted the "extender" to the "L" brackets, pulled the lower bumper cover up about 1 1/2 inches, then bolted the "extender" to the hood latch bracket.Lifted nose,a little more clearance under the chin spoiler.Zero cost,30 minutes time.
Just an update.

I didn't need to.There are push pin "clips" that hold the cover to the actual bumper, and they are still intact holding everything together nice and tight.

I've been using one since 2004 when the Bullitt Mustang was offered with that door.I saw one at Ford on the Stang, went in and ordered one,had it on the other Bird I had 2 days later. As far as the exhaust goes,I like the car to be different from anyone else's,and I like to think a lot of my ideas are original. Some not.I had never seen the Bullitt fuel door on one of these before mine (Not that it hasn't been done, but as far as I knew,it was my idea for the T-Bird).Same with the exhaust.I spent a lot of time making it just how I wanted it.My Blue Bird had the same concept, different tips.
I did this about 5 years ago,and it lasted until 2 years ago when I started the Sport..... (http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/100_1351-1.jpg)

I didn't need to.There are push pin "clips" that hold the cover to the actual bumper, and they are still intact holding everything together nice and tight.
Was wondering about the structural integrity of the bottom edges, if they flapped in the wind, but I guess you can't tell while you're driving, eh?

They are sturdy.I grabbed them and tried to shake them by hand when I cut the openings,no looseness at all..One could always bond a piece of aluminum or whatever behind the cover (on the back side),which,I thought about, but I found it wasn't necessary. As I said, the push pins do an excellent job holding everything in place nice and tight.

What's the offset of your rims? I see you were considering more than the 255s but would have to remove the quad shocks. Your rims look exactly like mine and I have 275s under the back with no clearance problems concerning the quads.

Hey Vinnie, Got your pm first thing this morning. Just got done reading this entire thread, it took me over an hour!! LOL!! Great job!!! I agree with one of the above posts about great minds, I've been using the Bullitt fuel doors since they came out as well. I love the chin spoiler idea, I might want to do that myself sometime, but when asked you'll get the credit for it. Check out my car domain site when you get a chance, I listed alot of the changes I've done on there, I haven't been on this site all that long so I put everything on there. Like you I've tried to do things tastefully, I was going for a muscle car look, that's why I have the cowl induction hood. If you do check it out let me know what you think, you can be honest, I take constructive critisium well. Once again great job!!

I can't take credit for the spoiler on the front, that was added after I read a thread about it.Mine was anyway, and I needed one, soooooo,Mach 1 chin spoiler it is.
As far as the wheels go,I may not need to remove the quads when I add wider tires,I just haven't checked yet.The offset is whatever it is for Mustang wheels (?).
I had the gas lid painted body color, because, after having it mounted on my blue car for so long,I realized,it looked like a big silver dot on the side of my blue car.It can always be taken back to natural aluminum easily if need be......but probably never will happen.
I have a few more things lined up when I can se up a little time.I did get my fog light harness wired up.....finally.Took all of 5 minutes.I saw the Hells light up after a couple of years in the box on a shelf, then mounted on the car for a few moths and no wiring. The lights were NOS which came with the harness and lights as a set.Got 'em for about $40.00 from Ebay.Lucky late night buy.I'll get pics up as soon as I can get a couple of little tasks performed.

Problem with "Mustang offset" for the wheels is there is a variety of offsets for the Mustangs.
:burnout:

I get so many people ask about the louvers it's not funny. You would think they would make them again with how much interest there is in them. Of course for me it helps my Bird stand out a little, and I don't mind telling my story,so I'm glad you asked. Back in 1993 I was at a car show with it when a guy came up to me asking if I'd be interested in the louvers and a set of smoke headlight covers. I'd seen one T-Bird in the area with them and wanted them but didn't know where to buy them even back then. So of course I told him I was, depending on the price. He told me his car got t-boned and was totaled so he just wanted to recoupe a little cash, he only wanted $100.00 for it all!!! I couldn't say I wanted them fast enough! So that's my story, it was just a case of being at the right place at the right time! I've had a few offers but I'll never sell them, anytime I raise them up to clean the window it just doesn't look right without them.
