Title: Well - They finally spilled the beans - 2010 'Stang

I like the hood, the grille, the headlamps, the rear haunches below the quarter window glass, the rear emblem.

I DON'T like the rear tail lights (something aboout the lower portion's angle) or the fact that there are two different styles of dash vents.  The square ones in the center don't fit with the rest of the upper portion.  The whole center section clashes with the upper portion as well.  2 different themes vying for your attention.

The 19 inch rims are pure, unadulterated shag.
I want them for mine.

The new motor doesn't come untill 2011.....

I'll wait.

Is that a camera in the deck spoiler or the trunk lock? Think its a camera. The tail lights don't bother me as much as what I saw of the rear bumper. Its really smooth out back yet very aggressive up front. There is more to be desired out back, kind of like the 5.7 GTOs. 6.0 had a little help with the duals and rear bumper but I still thought it should look more aggressive. I wonder if they are going to make and major changes still.

Eh to each their own i actually like the new rear end at least they did not just leave the rear end alone like they were un-interested in it like in 05 - 06.

The decklid spoilers that Ford has used have ruined the look of the back of every Mustang they have ever put them on from '74 to now.

eh. you just don't like wings. No wing is like having a spider butt in my opinion. Like a grandma's car. I always thought the 05-09 body was the best looking mustang ever made. I was hoping they change nothing. like someone said before, to each thier own. Seeing it in person may change my view of course. I am always hoping someone would customize the new stang into a modern cougar just for kicks. Like the aftermarket stangs.

I like the shape of the rear end, the humps on the rear give a nice aggressive look but remind me of a late model dodge though...

The front could be better, the instrument cluster is ugly and the rims are gorgeous.

I wanted spoiler delete on my car but my wife insisted on it...so it was either no mustang or mustang with spoiler!

I agree...to a point. I don't like the factory spoilers, and (lucky for me) my S-197 is a spoiler delete car. I'm considering a 3 piece duck tail for mine.

I'm not as impressed as when the '05s were unveiled, but it looks good.  One thing that I do like about the new body style is the look of the 4.0.  The last V6 Mustang looked like a red-headed step-child.

Are you sure they are gonna build it? Ford not doing so hot right now. Yesterday they sold off 2/3 of there stake in Mazda. I love to hate the new stang but will they really build it?

I like it better than the current one. It looks like it has heritage cues without being a full on retro design. Almost refined. The colour coded light up sill plates are a bit ricey, though.

Ugly taillights, but they are sequential...that's a tough call.
Title: Well - They finally spilled the beans - 2010 'Stang
Post by: Thunder Chicken on November 19, 2008, 09:10:36 AM
Are they sequential, Eric? It's against federal motor vehile standards to install sequential lights from the factory (but perfectly legal to install them once the car has been shipped - as you can imagine, I've done some research on the legality of sequential lights). I'm kinda hoping they are sequential - it'll be an advertising boon for me - I'll be able to say "Make your lights sequence like the new ones" instead of "make your lights sequence like the 40-year-old ones that most of you have never seen"...

The only thing I kind of like is that Brick Red and black interior.  Not for the fact that I like the car, but that the combo would have looked good in the '80 XR-7....

WAH!  I miss that car :(

Yeah, it's confirmed for the sequentials...from the PDF file on the Ford site:
Quote
EXTERIOR STYLING
The new power dome hood, bumpers, fenders, quarter panels, doors, rear end, grilles, fascias and wheels make the all-new 2010 Mustang design look fast … even when it’s standing still.
Other key design features include:
• All-new wheel designs
• LED sequential taillamps
• Body-color exterior mirrors
• Fog lamps

Also a great write-up about the styling here:
http://jalopnik.com/5091681/2010-ford-mustang-design-dissected

And everyone seems to be overlooking the V6 cars...this seems MUCH better and cleaner:

Look at how the absence of fog lamps in the grille area makes the V6 cars look wider and leaner. I've said that about the '05 cars also, but the new '10 version really emphasizes that point.

I like the front end I guess but the more I look at it the more it looks like a Mustang II.  Also I hate how the rearend slopes forward the further you get out towards the tail lights.

I don't know I guess I'll have to wait and see one in person before I judge.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.  Not that G37's are bad looking cars (I actually kinda like them)  I just don't like that look on the 'Stang.

One thing I'll say is that the interior of the '10 looks GREAT.

I watched the unveilling on the Speed Channel last night. I like the new ones, but I like the 05-09 a lot better yet. That may change when I see them in person. I do like the '10 interior better. Overall, they're still looking good!!

The V6 is getting there but Ford needs to figure out how to make the ass-end look better and lose about 500 lb.  My suggestion is to make them shorter (as in 'untaller').

I think the 4.6 is on the way out the door.  The 5.0 4v coyote is a more cost effective fit for a quote unquote new motor.

I'm glad I'm not in the market for one of these, I wouldn't know which way to go. I would want HID's but I don't like the look of the headlamp housing compared to the non-HID lamps.
Then there is the whole V6 vs. GT styling thing. I would want a GT, but I think the V6 front end looks better (cleaner and less cluttered).

There's an aftermarket company that sells a kit for the 05's that moves the fog lamps to the lower section and uses smaller bulbs.  I think it would look MUCH cleaner on the new version than what they currently show.

Perhaps something like the 05-09 v6 pony package foglamps in the lower with the v6 upper grille.

There is speculation that the base GT will still get the 4.6 for '11 and that the 5.0 4v will be an "Heritage Edition" upgrade.

I was wondering how they would make an enthusiast pay more.....guess I know now...

That's funny because I can't seem to find hard #'s....Only estimates and figures for pre-production cars.  FWIW the 350 was at a disadvantage.  Equal weight and less torque.

There's a comparison between the 370Z, Mustang, and Hyundai Genesis Coupe in the May Motor Trend. The Z is fastest, but the Mustang wins the comparison. The funny thing is that it wasn't a direct comparo - Ford made MT promise not to do a back-to-back comparison with the Genesis. They were actually afraid of it. Absolutely shameful. The Mustang beat the Genesis in nearly every category - what's shameful is Ford's lack of faith in its own product.

I'm not surprised.  Proof positive how advertising dollars can skew test results on matters of opinion....When the S-197 platform first came out the mags praised it.  18months later the cheap shots at the suspension came aplenty -- the same suspension they praised for working so well in spite of the dated architecture.

FWIW Motor Trend and C&D have problems getting decent times out of ANY car with a decent amount of torque below 4000 RPM without AWD/4WD.  Always with the wheelspin off the line is the excuse.

Given that Mulally told the universe that Ford's products are essentially world class, you'd think his employees in public relations would buy into what he's selling. If they did, they'd have gladly given us that pipeline's first potent product, the 2010 Mustang GT, for a head-to-head test with Hyundai's Genesis Coupe. But they didn't. "If the Mustang wins," said a Ford PR flack at one point during the tortuous back-and-forth negotiations, "it's still the king. If the Genesis wins, we've only made a hero out of a Korean upstart."

In order to get our hands on a Mustang GT in time to meet the deadline for the April issue of Motor Trend, we had to agree not to do a back-to-back comparison with Korea's new colt. Normally, we would've told Ford to take a hike up the Himalayas. But, in the interest of getting the first test numbers on the new Mustang, we acquiesced. For Ford, it's a shame we did.

Speaking of the PR Dept. They still haven't given me the go/no-go on the brand use license. I suppose they do have more important things on their minds right now. ;)

Hey maybe they knew that the pathetic Genesis wasn't a worthy competitor.  They mention Ford would have a car ready to compare with the forthcoming Camaro...which is definatley stouter competition than a wanna-be Korean tin can.

I am not impressed with then Genericsis at all...typical Hyundai.  No personality.

Oh yeah! Boss 302 maybe? I heard they'll be dropping the 6.2 Hurricane in it from the Raptor at some point too.

I'm one person who won't be brushing the Genesis Coupe off any time soon. Consider that their $26G top line V6 is making a whole 9hp less than the current Mustang, with a DOHC V8, and you can see why Ford was a bit scared. I bet the weight difference would have put the numbers pretty close. I have that issue, but haven't had the time to read the article yet. Anyway, this is their first attempt at a RWD sports coupe. If they're even close, their second try might be the ticket.

I don't think you'll see a V6 ecoboost Mustang any time soon. That has power that trumps the 4.6, with much better fuel economy, and I don't see Ford sacrificing the V8 in the Mustang any quicker than Chevy would for their Corvette. We may see the current dog of a V6 model phased out for an ecoboost 4, though. People are getting this nostalgic idea about the SVO now, so it might even be a really successful model.

The Genisis coupe only comes with a V6 and a turbo 4 cyl. Sounds like the turbo 4 is the one to mod.

This would be awesome! Now I was under the impression the V6 was going to be replaced with a V6 DI Ecoboost but this could be much better.

1.  The 4.6 3V is NOT a DOHC.
2. I somehow doubt that v6 has the torque spread of the 3V, one of the shining attributes of that motor and a defining factor pf a  ponycar/muscle car IMHO.

Truthfully, I don't see the 4.6 hanging around at all in the Stang for too much longer.  The 3V was exactly what was needed.....in 2001.  It was a bit late to the party, but such has been the way with the mod motor.  I've heard the 5.0 will get direct injection albeit not at the initial release.  Hopefully it does come at the motors inception.

I know, I was talking about the DOHC V8 in the Mustang ("Consider that their $26G top line V6 is making a whole 9hp less..."). I guess my sentence structure went to pieces there. I'll take my lumps for the DOHC vs. OHC bit though. ;) You're no doubt right about the torque too, Demon.

The only way the Genesis is going after the Mustang is on price point. The car is more directly competing with the 370Z and RX-8. Import Sport never really has gone after Domestic Muscle. My point was that it's an impressive first crack at a RWD Sports Coupe, and their second generation might close the gap quite a bit.

And Ecoboost V8? Does anyone have any links to this info? I haven't heard a word about a turbocharged V8 coming from Ford. I'd be surprised to even see the Ecoboost V6 in there. If we did, people would be skipping the GT altogether, with the Shelby as the only Mustang above the TT V6 with a performance advantage. Ford is pretty well known for protecting the Mustang and what it stands for, even if that means sacrificing performance to keep a N/A V8 under the hood.

I'll basically say what has been said before. No Mustang in the S197's has a DOHC V8 right now. Only the Shelby and thats way out of the Genisis price play ground. The old Fox4 Corbras had a twin cam V8 but thats used.

I just got confused by your DOHC V8 comment. The Genesis Sedan had a Tau DOHC 4.6 V8. No need to get irritated just a little miscommunication.

Well, it wasn't my first time being misread in this thread, and explaining the same thing was getting irritating. No worries, though. I do admit I screwed up on the number of cams in a Mustang GT. I honestly thought all 4.6's were Dual after '05. It's easy to see I'm not a Mustang guy. :D

Okay, yeah I gotcha. Its okay I thought I was out of my mind here when I was reading the Mustang had a DOHC. I worked at a Ford dealership for a long while and was confused by that. I didn't know if you had known the Genesis Coupe didn't get the Tau V8 so I threw that out there. I apologize for the mix up.

No problem, man. Though they should have thrown the Tau in there anyway. Maybe there'll be a V8 version in a few years. I wouldn't put that out of the realm of possibility.

Ahhh I see.  That would be a  fast car...isn't their V8 rockin' like 370 hp or something?  Ahh well its still a freakin' ugly Hyundai.

Looks like the Tau 4.6 V8 has 375 HP and 333lb.-ft. of torque. Would really make it interesting for a car that'd make you look a bit limp wristed.
