Well, in your turbo cars at least
i was on my way home, and a tibby pulls up next to me, not wanting to have to be behind me at a merge, he launches at the green light, i boost hard, start to pull, then it starts to miss badly, throw second, starts to miss badly again, grab third, my front bumper is at his rear, top of third, it misses bad, and he gets ahead, i throw 4th and stay in it, and kept almost running him over, in 4th, the car had enough to be faster, but i couldnt get around him
moral of the story, use motorcraft wires, or be a tool
What were you using during the race?
Yes... I'm thinking my "Xact" brand wires are failing me, too. Even though they're new, the car sort of falls on it's face at 4200 RPM. Good thing there's already motorcraft plugs in 'er. Time to go to rockauto and order some.
PS - I think he was using Autolite wires.
hahaha, like it makes a difference for you, HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
I've got autolite plugs, and fms wires. No problems yet :dunno: .
autolite plus and ford wires is the proper stuff to use
Wait... so Motorcraft plugs aren't as good as Autolites in a Turbo?
motorcraft plugs and autolite plugs are the same thing, but the plug wires are different
Motorcraft wires must be good. The ones in my T-Bird are 17 years old and it still runs like a new car. I'm thinking of replacing 'em with FRPP 9MM red wires this spring, though - had good luck with those wires on my Cougar and 87 Sport
TCCOA preaches that fact too. Only use motorcraft wires on the Turbo Coupe. When I had the 87 TC, I put on a used set of accel wires. They worked well for the 1 week that I drove the car.
Um, I have Taylor wires in mine, they've been through a fire and the car doesn't miss a beat... just don't use and you're fine.
FRPP 9MM blue here. For plugs I use (Dare I say it?) Bosch Platinums. They seem to last longer for me. Don't know why.....
I use the motorcraft plugs with the Ford Racing 9mm wires. The wires are red to match the MSD cap and coil. Have not had a problem yet. Might upgrade to Platnuim plugs later on.
Moroso wires and autolite plugs. Maybe it has to do with each individual engine, but I don't care for the platinums myself.
Maybe certain plugs work better with certain wires :dunno:
FRPP wires and Bosch +4, work great. :ies:
I used Bosch platinums with the FRPP 9MM wires on my '87 Sport and it ran like shiznit. After hearing horror stories about 'em I pulled the platinums and installed a set of Autolites and it ran like new again
I've got Motorcraft 9 mm race wires, and no problems yet.
I have Bosch Platinums in my 3.8 and I have had no problems. They even worked fine when they got drowned in oil from the clogged PCV valve.
but also remember guys, youre in non-boosted applications
ive been told that with even some decent, non-motorcraft wires, the boost is able to "blow out" the spark since the wires arnt able to conduct the proper amount of energy, i cant say how true that is or not, but aparantly true enough
hell, in my 3.8L, i have the cheapest wires, and cheapest bosch plugs, and it ran like a champ
just for the hell of it Shawn what did you gap the plugs at on the TC?
the autolite spark plug number is 764 not 25's or 26's and they get gapped at .034 not .044 or .054 ;)
oh and i think you ment your 3.8 ran like a chump! not a champ :raspberry
i forgot what theyre gapped at, i believe it was .35
it was what was recommended
i Edited my post read again and yes they should be gapped at 35 ;)
I've driven a new Tiburon GT..... you should be ashamed of yourself. I've been in faster Chevettes.
well, thats why i feel like a tool for getting beaten, all because of some plug wires
now i need a credit card to place an order...hmmm
I run motorsport 9mm wires, with autolite double platinum 23's on my combo. Car runs like a raped ape on this setup. MSD box also helps with the spark control.
