Title: Junk in the trunk
Post by: t.birdsc on November 10, 2008, 09:28:48 PM
Actually a good transmission in the trunk :hick:
After last weeks run I decided to swap out the transmission that was in the trunk. It was supposed to be an AOD with 4r70w internals and a 1 piece shaft. The converter was new but it wasn't a 1 piece  Also it had a "B" servo in it, which seems strange if someone were to put the wide ratio stuff in it why would they leave a "B" servo in it. Heck the stock trans. had that with a good shift kit.
I wonder what it'll run without the trans in the trunk and a loose converter?:burnout:

So you ran it with the tranny in there? Well every 100lbs is around a 10th of a second.

I was hoping it was more than that. Lol. Weight wise even without the trans and a full fuel tank, it may pick up .3ths. The new trans and stall may help but the engine might run out of power from the flow choke e7s. Exhaust will be next.

GT40s and some 3" should help.

Yeah, I've had the Gt-40y for a while but they don't look like they'll work with the flat tops. I'm thinking hard about getting rid of them unless there is a short block or piston change. I'm on a mission to get this thing running better than it's half a$$ed past, by the end of the year.
3" exhaust would be great if it wasn't for the horrible streets here. It bottoms out on the factory exhaust. Do you think long tubes would fit on an aod column shift or would you have to go with a floor shift conversion instead?

You can run Trick Flow heads with flattops, I have for nine years...

Long tubes can be made to fit with an AOD but ALOT easier fit with T-5 from what Ive heard. When I was thinking of LTs I was told it wasnt worth the work involved for them to work.

Yup, looks like you can't go wrong with the Trick Flows, 2.02's with flat tops and no valve reliefs required. That right there could make them the best all around choice.
I have to unload these gt40s and hope to get a buyer.
Btw, are you running the single or dual spring TW?

 Thanks,
  Mike

Manual shift vehicles are a blast to drive but, I've never owned an auto with a good stall before. It should be fun to drive. :D
I have to get just a few pieces together for an exhaust system that may be worthy of a post of its own. I'm hoping the Borla XS are quiet during cruise and open up at wot.  2.5's probably wont be as strong as the 3" on top but way better than that factory setup which is a joke.

I had problems with using the stock Mustang set up on my car with the column shifter. If you you are going to try LT d say the floorshifter conversion is a must. And since youll be swapping you can flip the arm while the tranny is out.
