Title: Masons stinkin lincoln number 2!
Post by: daboss351 on November 02, 2008, 01:23:51 PM
Well I brought home my newest addition friday!
700 cash got me a 1990 lincoln Mark VII LSC(that I can register), included are 4 low mile bridgestone potenza tires on the car, and a trunk loaded with a ford racing aluminum radiator, full set of control arms, full set of poly bushings(front and rear control arms, swaybar mounts and end links), set of rubber front control arm bushings, set moog sway bar end links, misc. computers, set of ride height sensors, and its all stock(and rear end is worn, only does peg leg). It has 97k on it, paint is florida baked as well as dash and seats, car needs rear quarters, and a bit of body work but its mostly solid(underside is not rotted). Inside is trashed but it runs and drives great!

Now the bad:
Anyone know ANYTHING about an old school kill switch set up by a company named Chapman security systems? There was no key for it to be given to me so I was gonna remove it and hide it in the dash were it couldnt be pressed untill my buddy got in and hit it with his knee. Now the car doesn't start... Today Im gonna start removing the interior and gonna look up under the dash and see were it goes and maybe I can trace the wires and remove it.

and a question:
Next what is the easiest way to install poly bushings?? I spent all last night cleaning the rubber out of the bushing cups, and lubed up the small one and i barely got it in a 1/4 of the way. Anyone got some tips? I wanna get both front arms prepped, bushings installed, and ready because when I install my good front bags im gonna put in my KYB struts, my spindles with drilled rotors, and my turbo coupe sway bar since I made out and got a set of control arms and every poly bushing I need.

There will be pics of every new part, and every step of the way.
Thanks for the help
and the hints I leave you with are it will no longer be red on red, and boring stock lincoln looking, I promise that much.
And my buddy is getting my ROH ZS wheels stripped and powdercoated for free, so he says. We will see.
First pics come later! I'll check in for info soon! Now I need to get to work!!

Yea I'd either find what it hooks into and bypass it or break the thing open and go from there :hick:

I'm sure it would wire in before the ignition, possibly into a connector like the one that kept my car from starting.

This is the one that kept my car from starting, that I'm going to wire into a kill switch. I believe it connects the starter and the solenoid to the ignition switch.
This one is located just behind the console on the drivers side.

Hope it gives you a clue on what to look for.

Can't wait to see the new pics.

Yep found the relay for it under hood, and all the shiznit wireing the person did to install it that tied into the starter solenoid and coil. Once I found it, 5 mins and it fired right up!! Had to cut out the hood lock that thankfully didnt work as well
Installed my 65mm tb, 65 to 60mm egr spacer I made, new IAC, my CAI, 9mm ford racing wires, ngk plugs, accel cap and rotor, motorcraft oil and filter, and my nicely painted explorer intake plaque. All and all a good day. Have to pull the TB again and get a real gasket, its sucking in coolent. Pics coming tomorrow!!
Swapping the flat black front clip on tomorrow, with new shagy fog lights, blacked out grill, and polished headlights

Here you go!! all the updates from FvC i made about the car!
More to come ;)
ok ok these are some starters
(http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c384/boss3512/1103081509.jpg)
I put some seafoam in the gas, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change, and my CAI, o and a new IAC

next:
Lost power one night and the outage fried my monitor, so thats why there has been no updates.
I got a TON done on the car, mostly little , but step towards making it what I want it. Got the entire front clip off, and the whole front clip of the blue car, prepped and painted flat black and ready to go on. Lights are polished and ready to go, grill is painted and ready to go, as are foglights(need to find out why they dont work on this car either...). Pulled door panels, started replacing broken parts, fixed power door locks(car had no actuators), painted red parts black, painted dash cover black, just little things to make it looks better. O and its got its first cleaning in 3 years hahaha. The red isnt to bad when its clean!
Also installed pioneer door speakers, and my old cars factory JBL 3 ways. Those things ROCK for 20 year old speakers!!! Still got a TON more work to do inside before I'm happy with it.
Tomorrow the front clip and lights will go on, then its on to redoing the front end. New control arms with poly bushings, my old cars front bags and solenoids, my KYB's, T/C sway bar, and my drilled rotors and new wheel bearings. Should help handling ALOT, and keep the front end off the ground! Ordering a trac lok rebuild kit, and a full bearing, shim, and seal kit for the rear end in the blue car. Gonna have it redone and gonna install it with new control arms, poly bushings, and im getting a set of the spherical bushings from UPR. This way I have trac-lok for the winter, and the rear end is leaking anyway so it will be a very nice noticeable upgrade(I'm keeping the 3.27's)!
5 more days till the insurance is all set, and then its registering it and inspection!! So far everything is on schedule!

TONS of pics tomorrow!

last:
pulled bumper shell today
welded the bumper bolts solid so its easier to remove it, cut old fog light bolts out, welded in new ones, installed new fog lights, and installed bumper. toggled switch back and forth and WHOLA! Lights work!! For 20 dollar walmart lights, holy shiznit they are bright as HELL. Hung the front fender, gonna pull them off, reinstall the trims, and bolt them one, then bolt on the header and bumper fillers, lights and grill. Should look awesome!!

O trust me it is. That front clip took me all of a hour and a half to install. Its redundant as hell, but shiznit its SOOO much better the second time around, with a better car to start with. It has PLENTLY of annoying issues though... Mostly the transmission right now...

Its not bad. Body isnt as rotted, but it needs its fair share. Was a florida car so underneath is pretty friggen nice. Has a weird rattle/vibration when you punch it, and it sounds pretty bad. Trans doesnt like going into reverse, and it shifts into 3rd at WOT with a horrific chatter. I have to recipt for the rebuild the trans had too. EVERYTHING was done, and it has had fluid changes and flushes periodically. I will iron all the probs out eventually. Right now i'm making the inside nice for the ladies ;)

since I swapped parts it eliminated the check engine light(egr related)
I really dont wanna swap back, because I know im not the only one running a explorer TB so its got to be something else... Its a BRAND NEW IAC as well, and i have another brand new one in a box...
car runs GREAT, and has NICE top end power, and spins off the line(never did when I bought it). Its just this stupid idle..... How do you set the TPS??

I only have one gasket on the whole thing, used high temp silicone on the rest. EGR is port matched to the 65mm tb so if i swaped one the both gotta go. I gotta tinker more... story of my life

I think I'd try swapping them back one at a time to see if the problem is corrected. If so, then put the replacements back one at a time to see which is the cause.

you might have thought of that already

Very good chance of that.

Get a vacuum guage and check this out:  http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,3020.0.html

Before you even do that, disconnect the EVP sensor and EGR vacuum line(and plug/cap the line).  What happens?

Let us know.

You swapped some stuff around.....Might have pinched a gasket/seal or cracked a vacuum line.  You need to diagnose the situation.

or you can spray carb cleaner around the gaskets, and see if the idle changes.

If you find no vacuum leaks:

1. Use a gasket between the TB and EGR spacer as well as the EGR spacer and Manifold. It will leak either air or coolant into the intake track.

2. Is the gasket between the IAC and TB good?

3. Rest the idle with the screw under the throttle body. Check the voltage at the TPS. As long as it's above .5 volts with the throttle closed and above 3.5 volts at WOT you're fine. Then disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 15 minutes to reset the computer. Start car and let it relearn the idle.

Your car should be fine with just a 65mm TB. Before I swapped to MAF I ran my combo on a '89 Mark VII LSC SD computer with virtually no problems.

i fixed the dash ground so now my gauges work with the lights on
idle is perfect now, and turns out my gas gauge read over half a tank ABOVE what was in it... I had a little over a half, turns out i had a 1/8 left.....

the ground wire DID for about 3 times i started and ran the car
now the idle is back up, but sometimes goes down to 850-900 in park
and my rear end is coming apart..... time for switching...
Title: Masons stinkin lincoln number 2!
Post by: daboss351 on November 20, 2008, 08:52:45 PM
tomorrow im gonna try spraying carb cleaner on the joints and see if ones leaking. shouldnt be I just put on a new gasket because it was sucking coolent, but who knows.
Then i will plug the egr vac port, and unplug the sensor on it(thats the EVP correct?) and see what that does. If I get no results then I will try my old TPS, and the gasket on the IAC is BRAND NEW, came with the car, I had to brand new IAC's in the trunk in boxes with gaskets.

Your rear end is coming apart? Switching?

My TC has a extra ground cable running from the battery to the intake. Not sure why, but the P.O. seemed to think it was necessary. If the gauges need an extra ground cause Ford in it's infinite wisdom didn't provide one good enough to begin with, then maybe yours need one on the motor too.

Yea if you take a courner about like 20 the rear end clunks and pops....
need to take the rear end out of my 88 and swap it into the 90.....
my car has enough grounds.... the gauges have a ground mostly for the fuel gauge
when i grounded it first time, the half to the gauges was grounded, but the other half teh wire feel off, everything worked but the gas gauge.
hooked them all up again started the car and they all worked..... its weird....
car NEEDS my new brakes too, they SUCK and one rotor has a warp i can feel the pedel pulsing, o and the check suspension light comes on and off and now the pass bag drops almost every time i shut off the car....

Feel lucky that you have luck at all. It could be worse, you couldn't have a car at all ya know? Good luck, bad luck... luck is luck. You have an 19 year old car... theres bound to be some problems along the way.

Im glad I grew up with no money, I had to learn how to fix things with what I had layin around. If it was broken I'd fix it.

Quit complaining about rusty bolts and busted knuckles and rotted parts and get the  thing done man.

Im gonna make a plate and weld it in the bag mount and see if i can repair it. It sucks but I gotta rig something
I COULD use a t/c k member and springs but screw that
I LOVE my air ride.

need to build the new air bag perch i hear it banging around
needs ball joints and the new control arms with poly bushings. Brakes are 100% better, and it has SOOOOO much less body roll now I LOVE it. Needs more work and subframe connectors and ill be happier with it.
Getting a custom kit put together for my AOD build, should be one STOUT trans. and Hopefully rebuilding the rear soon cause I cant STAND one tire fires

I think you have more respect when you have to pay for everything yourself and know the value of a dollar. Its more than just repeting your car because it YOURS and is YOUR money, I think it effects the respect you have for everyone nd everything also. I dont care if I become a millionaire. My kids will work and buy their own cars. Im glad I had to.

I'll spend say...$30 or $40 on a bunch of parts.Sell them all.The first $30.00 I make goes back to the bank account from which it came, the rest is my profit for the Sport.A lot of parts I had came from my old Bird, and the Bird i got my doors and front fenders from. The guy told me I could have anything I wanted from the '88 LX (except the engine and tranny) if I'd put a heater core in his '93 Stang....DEAL !!! That made some good money. The engine harness, lights, switches, etc.I picked up 3 sets of 19# injectors, two Crown Vic Mass Air meters/sensors,3 or 4 '87/'88 T-Bird right side tail light lenses,Mark VII seat controls (from the doors),'85 or '86 T-Bird 1/4 windows and trim,a bunch of '87/'88 dew wipes in awesome shape,2 or 3 hood to header panel seals,a 130 amp 3G alternator (just had it checked and got a print out stating A-OK)and a few other parts for $35.00.That all will be sold and whatever comes of it will go towards the Sport.I just ordered a couple of FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) parts from Australia and that was paid for like everything has been, from selling parts. If I'd taken money from the bank accounts we have,I'd have been finished a long time ago,but,18 months later, here I am,still working on it.Almost done, but not quite.

well i was raise to make you own money and work on your own cars. then at one time i was retired from the work force and tired a couple of times to pay to have work done on couple of rigs. after i got them home. i alwise had to finish what they missed or better yet, had to redo it myself. i figure if i have to follow up on there bad work, then i can do it myself. at least i can mess it up like they did for less money.

I don't really devote but a few hours a month to the boneyards, and I won't do it unless I know I can make it worth the time and money.I won't spend 3 hours ata yard to make a few dollars.99% of the time,I am grabbing parts for myself as well when I'm at the yard.I picked up a 3.55 TC rear last year for super cheap.I'm just now getting around to doing something with it.Also,I really search Ebay and other places for bargains.I got my NOS lights super cheap,my NOS lock sets for the entire car with the TC keys.NOS fog lights and harness.A few really cool Australian parts.I bought a set of NOS Ford Falcon (Australian) hood twist locks like the '71 Mach 1,complete with mounting hardware. They may or may not go onto the Sport.Tough call.It all comes down to time and patience.I got the NOS 1/4 windows (Sport/TC style in black) for about 25% of what they're going for now.'04 Mach 1 front spoiler still in the Ford box for uber cheap. The Sport will really be a great car.It actually already is,but it'll also look the part.I still need the dynomat type sound deadener for the car,and window tint later.

i'm where the wind never stops, it just changes speed.(great falls)
i have three cars that i'm building as parts come along and buying wrecked cars/truck and parting them out to make extra money and NOT using my pay checks.

(http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/599451/fullsize/great-pumpkin-003.jpg). this factory orange 1983 capri is completely been done  to show our young kids how you can do it with used/traded/elbo grease.

(http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/600402/fullsize/84converta-006.jpg)i sold a complete 1994 black interior from fire wall to trunk floor just to use the money for 1986 front and rear bumpers for this car.

the other car is casper my 1982 cougarxr7
(http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/650009/fullsize/dcp02280.jpg)

personal, i have more respect for some one that can scouring junkards parts and resells parts. than just pulling out a check book and pay  for it done! because thats how we did in the 60's/70's/ 80's where there was no aftermarket world/internet/ hired car building shops.
i have been in car clubs/car projects/car shows  for the past 35+years.
i also have been three ways in my life, from living pay check to pay check, to have more money than knowing what to do with , having nice income every month . using your brain to get parts or how to work on you own project is the only way to go! there nothing worst than going up to some one and asking about there ride and being told idon't know i got this car this way!:disappoin

OK
so I put the 3G in the new car. Hooked A to A, I to I, and the black and orange up... No good, car dieing while driving. Amp light was coming on past 2k rpms. Only difference between the 88 and the 90 is the 90 has TWO yellow wires in the I spot on the plug from the old V/R.. So I hooked them both up to the I on the alternator. Im at a loss. Hooked the 4ga cable to a 130amp mega fuse, and to the right post on the starter soliniod like I did in the 88. I did forget to unhook the battery at first and the black w/orange stripe wire hit and sparked on a bracket. Did I fry something? Gonna check the fuse incase I broke it during install, and I broke the tab holding the S wire in, but its hooked up.
So what could it be? Once again the colors dont match the colors on the harness I got, and now theres 2 yellow wires.... And Im suppose to hook up the black wire right?

Yea and yeaturday after I got a letter from the dmv saying that I am gonna get my registration suspended because i didnt inspect it yet. So I go to get a inspection. Im on a side street as a truck is pulling in the street. So i pull out. The carbehind him crosses the yellow lines to pass the back of the truck and slams into the back of my car. Hit right after the drivers door, dented almost all the way up the the quarter window, I think it bent my rim, and pen 15ed the rear end because it vibrates from a stop now. I dont know the extent of the damage because the car is at the inspection station so I can prove that I was on the way to get it inspected.
I fixed the brakes though, the drilled rotors and new pads make it stop great now! Didnt help me yesturday though.....
O yea get this the car that hit me
a little toyota corolla
it was my principle

rear brakes came apart 2 days before, fixed them. Drilled rotors all four courners and new pads
stops much better now, but doesnt drive good anymore

It must be alot different up there, how do they know if you did or not? Here in pa. you can register a car and never inspect it.
As long as its on private property, and not sitting on the street. Now insurance is another thing.

everything is in the computer
inspection station sends info right to state when they inspect a car
It sucks I was on the way to get the inspection so id be ok when I got hit
so I have a document saying that date so I can prove I was trying to fix it before the accident so I dont get screwed out of insurance money.
Idk if they are gonna fix it or total it
State deemed the car worth 2,150 and I wont take a penny less

Well my principles insurance company just called me and said that they wont be paying for my damages......
This sucks, my rear end is bent, its pen 15ED sideways(btw makes it SUCK in the snow, and left hand turns it SLIDS like nothing), the car bangs, rattles, squeeqs, and whistles. I'm going nuts now. I bought the car a MONTH before the accident and now its messed up. I cant afford this... Its bad enough im trying to afford tires, now I need to get the frame checked, and rebuild the rear suspension, swap in my 88 rear end, etc.......
PLUS, i took a courner too fast last night, slid in the water, almost ped my pants, held it and straightened out and got pulled over.
Got ANOTHER ticket, for care starting from stop...
Im screwed... but its my own  fault. I should have slowed down knowing it was a left turn and seeing it was wet. Might lose my license now for a little bit.. Gives me time to fix the car at least...

Seriously Mason, there is really (and I should even go so far as to say has been) a pattern of events/actions that seem really irresponsible and careless. Now Im HARDLY one to talk, I've done more than my share of dopey stuff, but come on man. You admitted it yourself..sounds like you hit a turn, wet road, slid into a barrier or something? I mean, I drive too fast thats for sure, but when conditions are inclement, even, just rain, I stick to them white signs. If that.

Also the pen 15ed rear end...I mean you really need to be driving something that's roadworthy. Worn shocks? Okay. Dinged up body? Obviously. Rear end thats pointing the wrong way?........

He does admit fault. Ill give him that. You know you are driving a car that is not that safe with the rear end all screwed (which might just be an axle but I can tell anything from body shots) and you KNEW the ground was wet and you KNEW how fast you where going. If they are anything like Missouri you will lose your license until you are 21 with the accident and the ticket if you dont get it fixed.

I am not trying to sound like an ass (I probably am though) but seriously man you just screwed yourself. If they are going to try and take your license i suggest this. You ell EVERYTHING you have EVERYTHING. Part the car or whatever and get the money for a lawyer. This something that no one wants to do but weigh it out really quick.

Sell everything and replace tangible items as time goes on.

or

Lose your license, pride, hurt you chances at getting jobs, have the stain on your record for years, have even more OUTRAGEOUS insurance IF anyone will even carry you after losing your license.

If I sound like and a**hole fine but take what I said into consideration. Dont waste time you dont have thinking about what to do. State doesnt give a  about you or your situation and will show no pity when court comes around .

you can get insurance fine after losing your license. I paid $240 a month on a $110 car for 6 months, then I made my freinds drive.

get some better pics. if thats the extent of the damage your a panzy. it may have dented the  outer parts doesnt look like it hit any vitals.might have pinched the torque box a little to make it squeek.

hang a string with a nut tied to it from the lip on the quarter panel on both sides... measure out from the disc to the string on both sides that will tell you roughly if your rear is pushed. and how far.

by the looks of that it should be fine. just needs pulled

It wasnt rain water
The snow had been melting so it was dry, but not on that side of the turn. I was doing 30-35, and cut it to hard, my stupidity. I did not hit anything, i held it, and straightened out(doesnt help the tires are HORRIBLY hard and dryrotted. They are from the blue car).
I am smartening up. I havnt been speeding, spinning tires that much, im backed off alot. Im buying all new tires, got new control arms, rear bushings, gears, gonna re do the whole back end.
I have to drive it, the insurance wont fix it as of right now, and I need to get to work(its about 10-15 min drive from my house). Im gonna fix it over vacation I hope... Im trying guys I am... Its to expensive and bad to screw around. I had my fun, now I'm gonna save it for the track. Doing brakes, suspension, trans, and rear end before performance mods, and exterior and interior work.
I Wish I could afford a new car, but I have to do what I have to do...

Im taking it to a shop getting a write up on the damages so that I have it to bring to court, then im gonna fix it, since i have everything to replace pretty much right now. Just need shocks. The drivers shock is almost resting on the back of the shock tower, pass shock is almost resting on the front of the shock tower.
Does that give you any indication to its not just cosmetic

All sounds good in theory but this is what worries me

The fact that you have multiple offenses now, your age, and (at least this one is a careless I can remember what the other was) it was a careless act I dont see the judge being very forgiving. Im sure some people can chime in on there experiences in court. I have only had 3 tickets, 2 court dates, and I had them dealt with before to avoid points. Honestly if you know this will work, fine. Dont take the chance. It will be worth the sacrifices now though life.

dont blame stupidity on dry rotted tires guy. I drove my bird when I first started driving on the origional michelin gatorbacks.

dry rot doesnt have anything to do with slipping or sliding.

You are correct, but the fact that they are dry and hard does, along with the angle of the rear end...

And yea they might not let me go but who knows. Bringing the car to a body shop, having it checked completely front to back, and a paper made by the shop saying the mechanical defects. Then im gonna get all the parts, box the rear arms, reinforce the tourque boxes, put in the poly bushings, install the arms, and the rear from the blue car.
I bought my tires last night so i got that covered. We will see, im being positive and hoping since this one was out of carelessness/mehcanical defect and not screwing around im gonna pray. My grades are going up, I have a job that I have been working my ass off at, so im hoping if i bring in documentation of all that i might be ok.

But anyway!!
My tires are SWEET.
BFG Comp T/A's 245/45 zr16's
I got them all for 250, they have LESS then 500 miles on them, they are just about perfect. one had a nail, it was pulled out, and patched from the inside at a ford dealer
Im excited to get those bitchs on the car after the rear end is settled.

Sounds like you are turning things around and I commend you for that. Its hard to try and turn a lot around in little time but I can see that there is effort. All you need is to keep the determination. That alone is what is getting me though this semester. I failed everyone around me last semester, that is bothers me more than failing myself.

If I was you I would try and do as much footwork to make sure that when you go in to court that you will be prepared to the fullest extent. ANYTHING you can do to get information about anything to do with your court systems there, real life info though not book info (although still helpful it can cause you to sound like you know everything). Ask anyone and everyone about any dealing they had with your court system. You might also want some character witnesses such as a respected teacher (secondary education level teacher) that you have had, employer, neighbor, someone not related that would be respected by the judge. Although he might not ask them to comment it looks better if you have some support. Appearance is the first impression. Neatly pressed dress clothes, clean and in good repair dress shoes, and a tie.

I know I sound like a brother or dad or something but I dont think that just because there was a little mistake made I shouldnt try and share any help I can think of. Not trying to tell you what to do but just give you some pointer on what might help you.

I really dont know if the fact that your car had a defect is going to help though. Where were you headed and coming from? Do you have any way of proving this? If it was not school or work or an emergency then I dont see that one holding up. Only because you were consciously driving an unsafe car on a PUBLIC road. They might use that to show you where endangering other citizens because of that.

On the other hand I know a guy that has gotten 3 tickets in STL City for defective ler (had a fart can on his Saturn LOL). He would go into court with his Mom and the judge would ask did you fix it? He would tell him it was never broke and that was the end of it. So you might be able to get away with showing that you are in the process of getting it fixed but due to your situation it is taking some time. They might also respect the fact that you are funding all of this on your own and your parents are not paying for your insurance, cars, or repairs.

I wish you good luck and hope that everything pans out alright. I still think that is was a careless act but you admitted it was a mistake and that is all you can do so there is no need for me to rag on you about it. Good luck.

I already have. Im done with this stuff. I dont wanna lose my car, or license.
Im fixing the car.
Slowing down, doing what I can to make it so im less likely to screw around (I.E putting tires I PAID FOR on the car, dont wanna buy more so they gotta last.).
Ive been working mad amounts, and im hoping that that will help me, as well as trying better in school. Ive always just not cared about what people said, or thought, but now they all think im not smart, or capible. And I know I am, so im gonna prove it.

bill blass has 5.0 HO
my car needs both rear quarters, its got a giant dent in the panel after the door which is gonna be major money to fix, needs a passenger door, powerlocks dont work, interior is a mess, and has a bird drivers seat, front k member air bag perches are rotted out, rear end is bent and whineing, theres a possiblity my drivers lower torque box is bent.
This car has one little rust spot, interior is PERFECT, paint looks amazing, has had all matenince done.
I mean look at mine:

So when are you going to give me a rear? LOL

If you can swing it get the new one. Why is he selling it so cheap though? Seems like there would have to be more wrong to sell that cheap if it is as nice as it looks.

So did you get rid of the first one yet or is this going to be 3?
