ive been going over and checking more things in my engine, and was wondering if someone could tell me where the pcv valve is located? Its not on the valve covers like i thought, any other places it could be?
On a 5.0, it's in the back of the intake manifold. Kinda tricky to get to. :D
more towards the drivers side of the intake?
Yep big old rubber hose going to it (like 1/2" diameter or so)
Here ya go. It's the black object in the center, disregaurd the arrows.
Be aware that there is a wire mesh filter directly underneath the PCV valve, which can also restrict circulation due to carbon and oil deposits.
You may be able to soak it in a solvent to clean it out or opt for a new one.
thanks once again for all the help
did you drill those out to connect the rear water jackets
Sorry, not my pic, just a generic one off the net.
darn I might do that
ok what about the two smaller hoses coming off the other side of the pcv, anybody know where they run to?
One goes to the fuel pressure regulator and the other to the EGR solinend.
is there anything else they could be connected to that would serve the same purpose or do they have to be connected to the pcv?
Are you talking about the pvc valve itself, does it have a big hose connector and two smaller ones,If so they usualy get plugged not used.Everything else gets hooked to the t's on the upper manifold.
yea its got the larger hose connected to it and the two smaller connections have been completely removed. the pcv itself just kind of hangs down behind the upper manifold - is it supposed to be placed somewhere else?
Should be just like the pic in post 5.
mine comes off of a hose that runs out from a "T" the bottom of the intake and just hangs free, it still idles fine though, havent taken it for a drive since i bought it though
If it's hanging it's not right.
that little f tip on the pcv valve is removable (it's a generic valve) so that the 1 big hose can fit in it
does the end that has the f tip have a place to go after it is removed?
um, i think this will help, i wish i toop a pic yesterday when i had the intake off
Ok so its been a while since this thread has had any new posts, but it seems a waste to start a new one. I gave up on looking for the grommet that the pcv goes into for a while now, and the boredom and brokeness of my Sunday got me off my a$$ to finally start looking once again. Took me all of about 1 minute to locate it this time ( regardless of the pics in this thread i was still looking in the wrong spot). Well now the car is idling worse than it was when the pcv was just hanging freely off that 1/2 inch hose, however has no more hesitation when i give it some juice. Is it possible that the screen below the grommet is clogged with deposits? By the way the pcv itself is new. Sorry for the long post guys, any advice?
Well ive takenb a look at the screen and it is totally clogged, its so badc that you can barely see the mesh but i cant get it out, anybody know how to get it out?
The best method is to hook the mesh using a dental pick (or comparable tool) and pull it straight up.
Yea thats sorta what i did, i used a pair of needlenose and pulled it out, it was filthy, i blew in it hard as i could (while getting grease all over my mouth) and it didnt let a bit of air through. Could that being clogged and the pcv not being connected to the grommet cause an odd idle and hesitation? i havent taken it for a drive yet, but it seems to be a hell of a lot better, although i fear my other vacuum lines may be in need of a serious cleaning.
Anyone know what kind of problems the filter being clogged would cause?
yep
no air to the engine.
pull your codes yet?
You mean the pcv filter? The crankcase gases will build up, rob some power and find other creative ways to escape.
Sounds like you need to go over the vacuum system on the car thoroughly and see what the deal is...
Well ive seen a giant increase in power and throttle response when the car is parked (currently not street worthy, rusted brake lines:mad: ) no more hesitation and screwed up idling, it dosent stall out when i hit the gas like it did before, but you guys are right, i need to thoroughly go over my vacuum lines and pull some codes, how does the sea foam thing workwhen cleaning the lines?
BTW, anyone know the proper name gor the filter?
I always called it a PCV screen.
