.....because he took $50 off without the sony xplod deck :hick:
Just wondering....87 - 87, same year for both my cars....any interchange between fox/panther radios, any difference in ANY 80s ford radios? (the plugs each use for hookup) I have zero experience messing with car audio. PITA to get the radio out of the cougar? If it was easy and would work I'd totally yank it and put it in the Vic for the winter.:hick:
Just wonderin'. If not I'll find the correct radio.
Man, no radio in the blues mobile?
That sucks.
Wiring it up is easy. Go but the harness from where ever you want, Wal Mart, Best Buy, Cuircut City, or a Car Audio shop. All it is is matching colors. Really easy. Soder them if you can or just twist and shrink wrapthem and drop it in. Find a cheap headunit on craigslist and youll have a total of 30 bucks in it. Still shave money.
If the radios are the same from Cougar to Vic its four bolts and a good yank after you take the four screws out if the trim. 2 plugs and the ant. and its out.
I bet you have premium sound dont you... Not sure if its differnt then
Yea I know I shouldnta cheaped out....:hick:
Thats what Im saying though there were two long rectangular plastic plugs, and then this one round one with a round black cable going to it. If thats what the cougar has then I'd just do that.
And yea I got premium sound. LUV it.
The harness that i was talking about will plug into those plugs, the found one is the ant. I dont know about the Premium Sound radios but I know that the stock one from my car would plug in. The harness is made for a range of like 10 or something years so Im sure the radio will plug in. Not sure on the size though.
allow me to direct you to my homeforum, http://www.grandmarq.net
all teh info you will ever need for that box panther can be found within. i even work for the only man in the world publicly restoring panther chassis fords
Haha cool cheeseman I have looked that place over, looks like a great site.
I'll have to have a look at this, I'll let everyone know my results.
all i can say is ignore the off topic bs forum....people with bugs up there butts sometimes lol
The '87 & '88 Panthers and Bird/Coug used the same radios... A few years back I, gave a friend a radio with cassette for his '88 CV from a Tbird, fit and worked fine(his orig just had a radio)...
A non premium sound radio will sub for the premium and work fine(can't advance the volume a great deal without over driving the premium amp though), I've used a couple different std ones in my TC with this config for 3-4 years(I had premium with GEQ till I went to a CD)... Can't sub the opposite though, due to the premium head not having a audio amp section...
AHHH okay there we go, that would explain today's results. Plugged right in, but I noticed a red wire with a loop terminal attached to the middle of the back end of the h.u. with a nut, and of course I didn't find the same wire in the Vic. Must have to do with the amp. I cranked it all the way and JUST heard a faint bit of noise from one of the speakers if I listened real close :hick:
Oh well, there's a yard not far from me with a couple tbirds, marks, even panthers I think, so I may see what they'd want for one.
Yup very faint, same as what I've found... Needs the amp in the trunk to operate...
I wouldn't pay more than $20 for one from the Junk Yard, and then only with a guarantee it plays...
Here's one that's fairly rare, last year was '87, this is one like I used in mine with the premium sound but are a stand alone unit...Only draw back is I believe they only have 4 station presets...

Yeah that's exactly the one my grandmother's 86 town car had, somehow I remember that vividly.
But that would work, all I need is a cassette player for my mp3 player + tape adapter.
That's the radio ground wire. ;)
go to walmart
get plug in harness (dont try to steal it, learned hardway just pay 9 bucks)
color coded harness is same as after market radios
get a cheapo radio
connect same color wires
shove in hole
*SIGH*. Ya know, I had a feeling...:rollin: oooohhh boy
Okay, will do. :D
