So since winter/snow/salt/all around py weather is soon to be upon us northern folk who has put their Bird or Cat away already? I just put my 88 T-bird away this past weekend till early April. I'm just wondering how many of you are planning to put or have put their cars away this winter. Of course gas prices drop after I put the 93 octain chugging car away:shakehead
LOL! Same thing happened to me...filled up the convertible with 94 on Sunday, today the price of premium dropped 20 cents a gallon. Can't win, man. But I filled up last fall when the price of fuel was down. This past spring I was SURE glad I did that (and I ran around on just that tank the whole summer). No matter how much it drops now, it's a safe bet that 6 months from now it's gonna be a lot more...so this is still a bargain.
Anyway, both the '84 and the '86 are away now. It's kind of sad that we didn't have a great fall, as I usually get to do at least one drive with the leaves changing. Oh well...
I put about 1,000 miles on my car this summer so I bought $4 plus 93 octane quite a few times this summer:hick: Gas prices will be back up by the time I get the car back out in April. I wish I could pay $2.98 for it in June next year :rollin:
October was not very good about providing nice weather for driving. I got the car out one weekend when it was in the 70s but other than that the weather has been pretty rainy/gray and cool. On the bright side I didn't have to clean out a bunch of leaves from in between the A/C condensor and radiator ;)
I hope I get to put mine away this winter.... I dont have anywhere to put it though. And storage is stupid on price. I need someone with an extra bay or even just a garage that will let me rent it for cheap, and get this SHO picked up going
Mine in the keep out of weather garage as always, till after christmas and I move it to the winter workover garage.where I install all my parts I bought all year.
Kitty's still on the road right now suckin down 93 and leaving chirp marks everywhere. :D :hick: But there has been snow in the surrounding area, and I should be picking up the title for the Vic tomorrow or Friday, so whenever mom can make a trip to DMV they'll get switched up. The cougar will be next to the house on a concrete pad. But I'll be home weekends as always to keep the area around it cleaned off, keep IT cleaned off. Probably throw a blanket over it then a plastic sheet over that.
Mine is still in storage since 03, although I did drive it around the driveway this summer. Put 300 feet on it this year. LOL
I may keep mine @ the house this year. The garage is heated and I may actually get stuff done to it this time. It's not going anywhere until I get a new clutch cable in it anyway. It will save me some money on storage too.
With one less car at the house this year, it will be easier to move it in and out of the garage for when I need more room to work in there (i.e. welding motor mounts, etc).
dont forget stabil or seafoam in the tank and
run it till it gets mixed in all the gas.
Oh I put in Stabil before I filled it up and then drove it for a bit to mix it in. I used the Stabil I got from the Chi-Town Kruze you met me at. That's why I go every year lol ;)
Im thinkin I should probably do that too....I'm definitely keeping the battery indoors....although I may jsut start it every couple of weeks....might be like last winter I may feel like doing "burnouts" and sliding sideways up the driveway in the snow again :hick: :hick: :hick:
I put mine up for the winter,2 weeks ago.I am already looking forward to getting it back out in the spring................6 long months of weather I hate.
I need to do the Stabil thing and then both cars are going up. Of course the T-bird paint job has been pushed back until Dec. so it will have to come back out again and go the 4-5 miles to the painters house. I hate not driving my cars all winter but I hate rusty salty cars worse so into cold storage they go...
either disconnect the battery or get a battery tender
or a b. t. jr. for the battery.:D
Mine's never left the garage, and probably won't anytime soon. :hick:
Here's a little charger I had for years. made a bracket and everything. Cost something like $30
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/cougar%20before/IMG_2828.jpg)
mine went to sleep last Thursday dropped in a can of sea-foam and fogged the motor and on the jacks it sits. tomorrow I'll crawl under it and spray it down will WD-40
The son's, daughter's, wife's and mine are all in storage. The insurance officially goes off Nov 1. Now it's back to the 94 Bird and 95 F150 everyday....
mine goes into a drive in bag you close up
and put in dessicant to absorb moisture and
the up side it stays clean too.this company
made these before they made the car jacket.
i use a c. j. for another car. the both do a good job.
hrrrmmmm, gonna be 68* tomorrow.....i think ill drive mine! screw storage :burnout:
I'll be putting mine away soon as well. I have never stored a car for the winter.... any tips? Do's.. don'ts? Mine will be inside my garage all winter.
- Seafoam
- battery inside or on charger
- jack stands
- full tank of gas
- start if every so often
-
Yeah it's supposed to be that warm tomorrow here too but I already suspended the insurance till April on mine:hick:
Since I can't drive it I'll be using tomorrow to cut the lawn one last time and pull out the garden. Fun stuff for Halloween :pbb:
I do all that except I put Stabil in the tank instead of Seafoam. Also I don't put the car on jack stands as I've never had a problem with the wheels flat spotting. I do roll the car once every couple of weeks when I start it so a new part of the tire is taking the weight of the car. One thing to remember is to change the oil right after you bring it out in the spring. The oil gets pretty sucky sitting all winter.
Bounce fabric softeners in the glove box, floor seats, trunk, under hood, etc... Rumor is it keeps mice away, can't prove it, but it's cheap insurance.
I usually park mine in the garage around January when we get a bad frost, i HATE having to se frost off the windshield in january...and once i had to do it in February... global warming.
-plastic sheeting for the floor
- WD-40 for the bottom of the car
-fogging oil with this you do
not have to start the car every so often
-car cover
Ive never heard of this, give me a little info on this.(fogging oil)
On a side note, it is in the upper 70's here all weekend and very sunny and all the trees are beautiful and full leaves yet. It is truely a perfect time of year. I will be cruising in the Cat this weekend.
THe fogging oil has rust inhibateor(sp). They use it in marine engines
for storage.
I heard moth balls or bounce sheets. Mice don't like the smell of
the moth balls or bounce sheets.
