Post by: 20thanniver-ls on October 28, 2008, 10:54:00 PM
anyone know if a pair of 67 stang 302 headers fit an 87 302?

Physically, yes, they'll bolt up fine...95% chance they're not clearing an AOD though...and almost certainly not in any fox chassis.

Yeah and fair warning.....stock 80s mustang shorty headers like I said....you might even have trouble with those with your column shifter linkage. I sure did, I think my motor mounts are sagging. Yours might be too. Basically there is a horizontal rotating rod, that you *may* have to grind a little bit out of with a bench grinder or angle grinder or something. It's not that huge of a pain, but it's enough. Gotta make the header fit in there somehow though!

Those look just like 'em...although I feel like mine are more wrinkly-looking, there are indents in them to clear things like the motor mount tabs (although my pass. side header didnt fit there and I had to bend the tab a little anyway) But on this page http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/5-0-headers_W0QQ_nkwZ5Q2e0Q20headersQQQ5ftrkparmsZ72Q253A727Q257C65Q253A12Q257C39Q253A1QQ_trksidZp4506Q2ec0Q2em245QQ_sopZ2QQ_scZ1  the 4th, 5th, and 7th results (count the gasket also, naturally) that came up there...those are exactly what you're looking for, and cheap too. The other ones might be fine, I'll let others chime in, but if you want to be 100% sure check those ones out, they're taken off 5.0's.

They look to be factory shorties from a 94-95 Mustang (I'm guessing they are because they appear to have the EGR tube blocked off). They will bolt up fine in your car if they are.

tried to install headers today, passenger side went in with little trouble however the motor mount tab on the drivers side is in the way, is it ok to bend the tab a little and whats the best way to do it if you know?

and as far as the column shifter linkage, the rods are like 3/8" diameter how much did you have to grind off of it? having lots of trouble with this drivers side, anything you know is greatly appreciated:dunce:

I possibly went overkill...but the one going horizontally, from the left-to-right, from the point of view of looking toward the front end of the car. I took out a notch about 1.5" wide around the area that the header stud was going to hit. I ground out about half the thickness of the rod. It's plenty strong enough, all it's got to do is move the rest of the linkage and a plunger rod inside the tranny valvebody. Thing could be 1/4" in diameter and it would probably do the job fine :hick:

Slot the cross rod where it connects to the frame.
It will giv you some play.

got the linkage rods grinded down enough for the  to clear, but the motor mount tab still remains a problem, ive tried bending it as much as i can, but im still about a 1/4" short of lining up the holes. any suggestions?
