Title: buzz while in gear
Post by: jcassity on October 28, 2008, 08:27:35 AM
20th anny 5.0

whats that noise i hear down on the transmission when i am in gear / park / Neutral but hear a buzzing.
if i land the column shifter to a sweet spot it kinda changes pitch but isnt going away.
Do i need to adjust the tv cable? this was my first tought but I am asking in advance.  I was going to tackle it this week but have to run out for a few days.

I repaired my cruise control and then was supplied with instructions on how to adjust the linkage up at the trottle body in order to set it properly as well as information in my shop manual.

did this adjustment at the trottle body change some reference point on the transmission cable or transmission pump?

I heard the noise upon purchace last fall and the seller said the transmission was rebuilt and gave me the shop papers as proof.  Later i repaired the cruise and "I think" the noise is more pr0nounced since then.

It's something to do with the TV valve in the valvebody. LOL wish I could frickin remember, when I put my Baumann shift kit in, one of the things I did it said it would also cure this and it told why it happens. Cant for the life of me recall it though. Mine did that sometimes, I think it's not a big deal, I wanna say it was the valve rod vibrating or something.

I don't think it's anything severely detrimental. I could be wrong though, or it could be something that you should take care of but it might stand up to several thousand miles of it. www.becontrols.com (http://"http://www.becontrols.com") there's Baumann...phone number is on the page, call 'em up and see what they say. I'll be going home for the weekend this evening, I'll look in the shift kit manual if you dont get to them first, but they know transmissions in and out. Very helpful guys.

Mine does it too and has for awhile.  Its something in the linkage rubbing somewhere I think.  I've just never worried about it because on mine I can jiggle the shifter a little and it goes away.

The instructions say "throttle valve resonance problems (which cause a buzzing sound at idle)"

So basically, looking at the diagram and knowing how that is removed, you could actually just pull the tranny pan, pull out a cotter pin in a certain location, slide out a plug, which will be followed by a spring. The spring needs to be a little longer and more stiff, perhaps even to a very specific....specificaton (:hick: LOL)  but that would take care of it. Also it will make the gas pedal a little harder like mine now is, and of course would firm the shifts up just a hair.
