Title: After years of waiting, searching, dreaming...
Post by: Thunder Chicken on October 25, 2008, 05:56:28 PM
...I finally have a complete HO/T5 powertrain sitting in my garage :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Sold my old truck today, went looking on Kijiji for something to blow some of the money on, and came across a guy selling a Mustang with a 351/5-speed. I had no interest in the Mustang, but in his ad he mentioned he would include a 1990 5.0 HO and T-5 tranny with the sale of the car. I called him up and asked if he would sell the tranny seperate (I wasn't really interested in the engine - if I was gonna go with an HO my plan was to upgrade my current engine since it's only got 65k miles on it). He said he'd let the engine and tranny go together, but not just the tranny. He said he'd sell it for $700. I offered $600 and he took it.

Finally, after years of searching in frustration, clicking away ad after ad that had a T5 for sale but had it priced as though it were made of gold, I have my T5. The best thing is that since I got the engine too, I also got the flywheel, clutch, block plate, etc. In fact the clutch and pressure plate are brand new (and he even threw in the old one and a starter).

Basically, all I need now is a pedal assembly, cable, and a speed density computer. Of course I'm going to open up the 5.0, but if it looks good inside it'll basically be a junkyard refresh (rings, bearings, gaskets), plus swap my accessory drive and accessories. Looks like I've got some work to do over the winter. Come spring I'll finally be  :burnout:

I dunno, I was wondering that myself. The bracket looks home made, so I'm thinking it's got something to do with the lack of a smog pump and A/C

Nice!

I have the pedal setup minus the clutch pedal (real helpful I know...) sitting my closet. Been meaning to toss it in the dumpster but I've never got around to it. :D

Let me know if you want, I'll weigh it and get you a shipping quote.

. If I'd known I'd have offered my spare T5 as a trade for the lights. I don't know the condition of the tranny, though. It was popping out of fifth when I swapped it out.

If I'd known you had a spare T5 we may have talked :hick: Yours is a 4-cyl version, though, isn't it? That would have left me to find a 5.0 bell, flywheel, etc.

"Done"? How do you mean, "done"? My car isn't even remotely close to being finished. The suspension is finished, and the body is about 90%, but I haven't even started the drivetrain...

I've still got the 351 sitting on a stand in the garage. That project is WAY off in the future.

If you look in the upper right corner of the top pic in my first post you can actually see a bit of the 351 on the stand. That cylinder head is one of the E7's off it, and you can just see a bit of the engine block (it's upside down on the stand)

Yes, it is a 4-cyl one. You probably just saved yourself a lot of headaches buying one already outfitted. Nice find, btw.
