Title: Parts for Sale
Post by: fordman3 on March 20, 2005, 02:51:20 PM
Hey everyone,
I've got a few parts still hanging around and I thought I'd put them on here and see if anyone's interested.
(1) LH/RH red cloth front buckets from an '87 T-Bird Sport - very good shape, red slightly faded on upper outside edges, but no burns, holes, tears, rips, etc.; driver's side full power with power recline, and the passenger side manual with power recline
(2) rear seat cushion from same car, very good shape; don't have seat back
(3) various red panels from same car - kick panels, upper door trim panels, and door sill plates
(4) LH/RH front fenders from an '86 Cougar XR7 - very good shape, only surface scratches, dark red (maroon) over argent gray, trim has been removed, no cutouts for corner lights
(5) full set of 14" steel rims with locking wire wheel covers (key included) with Cougar center emblems from an '84 LS - 2 of the wheel covers are slightly dented, 2 are like new, 2 of the whitewall tires are like new, 2 are about 50% (Cooper Trendsetters, 205/70R14)

Except for maybe the kick panels, I'd rather not ship any of these parts.  They're pretty bulky, and I live in a small town nowhere near a UPS or FedEx office.  I live in Marshall, IL; 15 miles west of Terre Haute, IN, or 90 miles west of Indianapolis, 3 hours south of Chicago, or 2.5 hours east of St. Louis.  As an added bonus, I've got the front bumper cover off of the '87 T-Bird Sport (black) that I'll give to whoever wants it.  It's got a split in it on the driver's corner, but I think it could be patched from behind and you'd never see it from outside.  Aside from that it's in pretty good shape.  Let me know if there's any of these things you'd be interested in.  Thanks for checking them out.

Hey, there's a few parts I'd be interested in trading.  I'm looking for an auto AOD floor shifter, the auto AOD floor shifter console plate with cutout, a passenger door for my '84 LS with power lock and window, a trunklid for the LS, tan carpet, or a brown dashpad for the '84 LS.  I'd definitely be open for trades.  Thanks again.    Fordman3

Hey, Fordman, would you be interested in "skinning" the front seats and just shipping the covers? I need some red covers that aren't ripped, torn, etc, just like you described. Heck, I'd even buy the whole seats and let you do what you want with the rest of 'em if you'd skin 'em for me...

ThunderChicken,
I hadn't ever really considered skinning them, but I guess it's not out of the question.  These seats are kinda like a car itself; they're nice enough that it almost seems wrong to take them apart.  Will I ever be able to unload the seats minus covers?  Are you absolutely SURE you don't want the whole seats?  Would you also need the headrests?  I honestly don't know exactly how to skin a seat, but I imagine I could figure it out without too much trouble.  What tools do I need?  Are these seats hog-ringed?  Let me know what you'd be willing to pay for the covers (and headrests?).  Thanks.

i need the LH seat frame if thunderchicken skins 'em ..... how much?

There we go, it's comin' together now :D

Fordman, I know the seats would be not much good without the skins (Blackjack's post notwithstanding), but to ship them whole into Canada would likely cost hundreds of dollars. Just let me know what you want for the seats, and if reasonably I'd buy 'em just for the covers. You could then do whatever you wanted with the frames (such as sell them to Blackjack, f'rinstance) :hick:

Heck, if you only wanted to skin one, I really only need the driver's seat skin...

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the responses.  Sorry to do this, but I'll try to cover everybody's requests in one post, so please bear with me:

ThunderChicken,
I can understand about the shipping to Canada.  Does $25 for both covers sound fair, plus shipping, or $15 for the driver's side only plus shipping?  Again, can you tell me if you need the headrests?  If not, I will make them available to Manson, since he's looking for red stuff.  Also, do you need the belts off of the seats?  Like I mentioned before, I've never skinned a seat, so any pointers or recommended tools you could clue me in about would be appreciated.  Can it be done by a novice without damaging the covers?  Thanks for your help.

BlackJack,
Are you meaning the power seat mount under the LH seat?  How does $15 plus shipping sound?  Please let me know.

Manson,
I've got a pair of red kick panels for under the dash, plus the red panels that go up and over the doors.  They are all in great shape.  Depending on what ThunderChicken says, I may have red headrests and red front seatbelts available, too.  And I have the red cloth rear seat cushion, also in great shape.  I forgot to put these in the original list, but I also have a set of red door panels from the '87 T-Bird Sport, with all detachable parts (screw covers, armrests, door handle inserts, etc.).  The only thing missing, and I can't remember on which side offhand, is a padded panel that goes right over the upper pull handle.  I can get you pictures of any of these if you'd like, just let me know your e-mail address.  Even though some of these aren't necessarily heavy, they would be bulky to ship.  My zip is 62441.  Oh, if I do skin one or both of the front seats, I would have the power recline assembly for each front seat with the corresponding red side panel with the recline switch.  I would think these assemblies could be used in any standard manual recline seats.  Just let me know what you'd be interested in.  Thanks for your interest.

That $25 plus shipping sounds good to me - I'll take 'em both. I don't need the head rests, so Manson can have 'em if he wants 'em. I could use the driver's seat belt buckle, though (I hadn't even thought of it, but now that you mention it the plastic surround on mine is broken). I don't need any other seat parts.

Now, how about the driver's door arm rest? I could use one of those, too... Mine has begun to separate (I think the original owner of this car must have been a heavyweight).

I'm at the cottage right now so I can't show you how to remove the covers, but when I get home I'll take some pics. Just let me know a total (including the seat belt buckle and driver's door arm rest) and how to send the fundage (I can do PayPal if you can, or money order, or whatever)

BlackJack,
You're saying you basically need what's left of the seat minus the covers?  Remember it's got the power recline option if that makes a difference.  Even without power to the power recline, the seat still tips forward by hand.  The seatback just can't be adjusted without power.  You're probably within driving distance from me, aren't you.  I'm just 15 miles west of Terre Haute.  Let me know that I'm understanding what you're looking for, and I'll shoot you a price.  I first thought you just needed the power seat mount.

Oh yeah, any word on the '77 F150 flatbed?  I was the last one asking about it.  Let me know if you could.

ThunderChicken,
I'll get you a price, also, including all the parts you're asking about.  There are a couple styles of armrests; do you need to see a picture of mine to know it's the right one?  If you can, send me some pictures on how to skin the seats.  I have a rough idea, but I just don't want to mess them up.  Oh, also, send me your Postal Code (I think that's what you call it) so I can get you a shipping cost.

Manson,
Anything catch your eye?  The red cloth headrests are still available, but ThunderChicken has asked for the LH door armrest and LH seatbelts.  Just let me know.

BlackJack,
How does $25 for the seat frame sound?  For $40 you could have the pair (skinned).  Then you'd have matching power recline seats.  I'm assuming you would probably want to pick them up?  They'll be very hard to ship.  I just thought you might want to have the set (and I would really like to find them another home).
On the truck, did you all give up on installing the motor?  If I understand right, the truck currently has a 351M in it blown up, but you were going to put a 302 in it.  Is that right?  Would he sell the 302 that was going in it along with it?  The headers you mentioned (sorry I'm trying to recall all the information from the other thread), are they on the 351M or the 302?  For the original $150, would he put the 302 in it?  Sorry for all the questions, but I am interested.  Thanks for the info.
Also, let me know if you'd like one or both seat frames and if you are able to pick up.  Thanks again.

Fordman:

I'll try to take pics over the easter weekend (taking the T-Bird on a 600 mile journey tomorrow and Saturday so no time then).

The door panel in my car is the base one (not the Turbo or LX version), so the armrest is the base one as well. It should be the same as the '87 Sport if my old '87 Sport was anything to go by...

If you could take a pic to be sure it would be appreciated tho...

ford man, it had a 351m in it it currently has a 302 that is blown  and he just got a $200.00 + speeding ticket  it has averything along with the blown motor i think he wants to sell as fast as he can.... chrome valvecovers, air cleaner blah, he well sell as is

hmmm, it might be nice if you were to bring the seat up if you wanted to look and or buy the truck....

ThunderChicken,
I did a search and found your Postal Code, and my best guesstimate on package size and weight for what you're wanting is right at $25 for shipping; add about $10 for the armrest and seatbelt, plus the $25 for the covers, and the total comes to $60 US. I hope that don't turn you off. My PayPal username is " *EDIT* I've removed your email address now I've done with it so you won't get attacked by spam - Carmen". Hope your trip goes well, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

BlackJack,
I thought of one more question about the truck, if I haven't worn out my quota. Is it a short wheelbase or long? The picture looks like a SWB, but it's hard to tell with the flatbed. Is the blown-up 302 still in it? Anyway, yeah, if I can swing the $100 for the truck (got my fingers crossed right now, next Friday's check can't get here too soon!), I could bring the seat. But if for some reason I can't buy the truck, are you still interested in the seat? Would you pick it up? I guess you still just want the driver's side? Again, my PayPal username is "eric706@comwares.net". And it's $25 for the one, or $40 for both skinned seats if you change your mind. Thanks for all the patience with the questions.

Manson,
Hey dude, you still out there? Let me know if there's anything you'd like.

Fordman: No, you certainly didn't turn me off with that price. I will PayPal you the money shortly, I'm expecting a payment myself and will pay you out of those funds. I'll try to get disassembly pics for you tomorrow (I just got back from the trip, decided to come home a day early). The trip went good, and the T-Bird performed flawlessly (of course).

*edit* Guess I should have checked my email first. I got the payment already. You've got cash!

the truck runs but haphazardly, you can start it and keep it running but, i tried to move it and it didnt budge.... it spun the tires really well at about 2500 rpms then died

i think he wants the py speakers out of it..... but we have to get the door for it from his old place that is if the landlord didnt junk it.....

BlackJack,
Thanks for checking on the truck for me again.  I know after all the umpteen questions I've asked, you'll think I'm a nut when I tell you that, as bad as part of me wants the truck and always would, the responsible part says that right now I just honestly can't afford it.  I like '70's Ford trucks almost as much as T-birds/Cougars and '69/'70 Mustangs.  I really have no business considering another vehicle right now with my financial situation.  I probably can't afford to fix up/work on my '84 Cougar LS, but at least it's already bought and there's no hurry to get it back on the road.  Heck, I bought it last summer and I've still never registered it in my name or sent the title in.  Again, I really appreciate all the questions you've answered, but your brother probably better let it go to somebody who can give it what it deserves.  To answer your seat question, sure I will accept cash, but I strongly advise against sending cash in the mail.  I didn't know if you meant bringing it with you when you picked the seat up or what exactly.  I don't plan on selling the skinned seat to anybody else, so don't worry about that.

Manson,
Good to hear from you.  A couple of the parts you mentioned, I don't have.  I think you asked about the headliner and rear deck; I don't have those.  Wish I did.  Heck, I wish I still had the whole car; it was a gold mine of nice parts, but the law didn't see it that way.  I do have the door panels, however, ThunderChicken has already bought the armrest for the driver's side, but not the panel itself.  Give me a day or two and I can get you a picture of what I do have.  Again, it's mainly the door panels (minus one armrest), both front headrests in red cloth, both lower kick panels, and the panels that go over the doors.  Sorry I couldn't help you out with some of the other stuff.  I don't know how to attach pictures to posts yet, so send your e-mail address to "eric706@comwares.net" and I'll get them to you that way.

ThunderChicken,
Don't give up on me.  I haven't begun to tackle the skinning process yet.  Anything you've got in the way of instructions, please send so I don't damage the covers you've already bought.  Thanks for the quick payment, too.  Ebay or not, I gave you a positive feedback point.

Anybody else see anything they like?  I've still got a good-looking set of '86 Cougar XR7 fenders and a header panel (I haven't decided if I'm keeping the original header on my car or putting the whole XR7 header on - either one is in great shape, the only difference is color).  And I've still got the set of 14" wire wheel covers and wheels for a Cougar, with locking key.

BlackJack,
Man, I appreciate that.  Shoot, in another month or two the irresponsible side of my brain may have had a chance to win over.  Oh, what are your thoughts on picking up the seat in the meantime?  I'll be out of town this next weekend, but should be home any weekend after that for a while.  Hey, are you needing the power seat assembly under the driver's seat?  I didn't know if that was one of the parts you were needing or not, and really hadn't even thought about whether I was including it in the price I gave you.  The only reason I ask is, my power driver's seat may be out in my '84, and I know the one in the red seat works.  I should know in a day or two.  Just let me know.

Manson,
Sorry I didn't pay attention to your last post.  You'd already gave me your e-mail address.  I'll get some pictures to you soon.

Ok, we FINALLY had one of those extremely rare days in which I:

[list=1]
That being said, I got the pics taken. Keep in mind the seat was still in the car, so, Fordman, you'll likely have an easier time about it. I also found out why the seat ripped: The seat back had broken once, and the foam was severely damaged. The cloth cover was actually wearing directly on the metal frame. Looks like I've got some repairs to do (not quite happy with the looks of the repair job to the frame, either).

Anyway, here's a pictorial diagram of how to skin the seat back. the seat bottom is pretty straightforward

ThunderChicken,
Perfect pictures.  I was out of town all weekend, so this week I'll get the seats torn down and in the mail with the other stuff.  You did want both covers, right?  I had a hectic weekend and don't remember.

BlackJack,
I can't help you with the other parts you're looking for.  I had a idea;  if for the time being you aren't able to drive down and pick up the seat, and I really dread boxing the seat up and taking it to a trucking company (it's gonna be too big for UPS or FedEx), I could possibly drive it up there for the cost of my gas.  I'm not sure exactly when I could do it, but we could discuss that later if you're game.  Figure we're about 240 miles apart, so 240 x 2 = 480; truck mileage = 16 mpg, so roughly 30 gallons of gas x $2.20 per gallon = $66, plus the cost of the seat ($20?).  This is just an estimate, and I'd adjust it if I'm off with any of my figures.  I wish I could do it for any less, but with the price of gas now, it's just killing me!  The only other idea I have is by Greyhound bus.  I don't think they're as picky about the packaging (maybe just shrink-wrap?), and their prices aren't too bad.  Probably way less than my first proposal, but I'd have to find my closest station, which may be a little ways away.  If I made the trip personally, and if there was anything else you wanted me to bring, there would be no additional charge.  If you had a way to get even halfway, say to Indy, that would be even better.  Think about it and let me know.  I'm still nowhere near being able to buy the truck yet, but maybe SOMEDAY...  (if he can stand to hang onto it for a while, I'll keep trying).

Manson,
I haven't forgot about you.  I have been away from home a few days and haven't gotten any pictures taken of the door panels, but I will as soon as possible.  Something to consider; the last door panels I shipped by UPS cost around $35.  Call me stupid for telling you that, but I'd rather be straight up, and if you're in any kind of financial situation like I'm in, all of that counts.  There are all kinds of parts I would like to have right now, but I just can't afford them.  Keep an eye out this week and I'll get pictures to you.

Still got a set of wire wheel covers and wheels for a Cougar and a good-looking set of '86 XR7 front fenders.

Fordman - yes, it was the two seat covers, the driver's door armrest, and the driver's seat belt buckle thingy. If you could see it in your heart to include the upper seat belt holder attached to the seat (the broken thing in the pic above) it'd be much appreciated as well :D

ThunderChicken,
Man, I finally got those seats skinned!  I think it's easier tearing a motor down.  They just got hog-ring happy in a few places (4 or 5 right together).  I'm including the seat belt holder from the driver's side, and both seat belts.  And the armrest.  I'll get them to the Post Office tomorrow if at all possible.  Sorry for your wait.  Hey, if you know anybody who's looking for a TC hood, I've got a nice one for sale.  I am just unbelievably strapped for money right now, plus I decided it just wouldn't work right on my V6 car, no matter how cool it looks.  I've about run out of anything else to sell, short of the car itself, which will not happen.  It actually did about 2 years ago, when I was laid off for an extended period of time and money got scarce.  Except it was no T-bird or Cougar.  It was my '69 Mach 1 R-code Mustang (428CJ, 4-speed, Shaker scoop, F/R spoilers) that I was going to someday restore original.  But it was all I had that had of any value that I owned outright.  I still get tore up about that car.  Anyway, hope you like the seat covers, and there's no charge for the cat hair you might find on them (I tried to get them clean).  Good luck!

Carmen (T-Chicken),
I got the covers and other various goodies in the mail last Thursday or Friday.  I sent it by air, for a 4 to 10 day delivery (kind of a long range).  I had the same thought; as fun as it was to take them apart, I bet putting them back together is way more of a hoot.  Better have a good hog-ringer.

I don't know if BlackJack is still interested in them or not, but I seem to have 2 naked front seats in very good condition (backs not broken, etc).  They have power recline.  And, even though we spend our time talking about 'Birds and Cougars here, remember that these seats will also fit any Fox Mustang, too.  Seen any Mustangs lately with power recline front seats?  Just a thought.

Chicken, I hope you like the covers.  I think you'll be surprised at their condition.  Please let me know when they arrive.  Later!

Unfortunately the femailman left the box on the doorstep and a neighbourhood cat must've peed on it, because the whole thing smells like cat pee (I'm gonna electrify my front door and wait for that little orange  that's been hanging around and spraying everything to come back). Looks like we're gonna find out if T-Bird seat covers are machine washable :D Then it's a re-dyeing for them, and then my interior will be happy again :D

Thanks a bucketload - I and my T-Bird appreciate these parts :D :D :D
