Title: Dew wipes & Weather stripping
Post by: 85bird on October 13, 2008, 05:36:00 PM
Ok, I have read the sticky post.  But I'm still a bit confused.  I have an 85 thunderbird without vent windows.  Had a set of those doors, and gave them to my cuz years ago.. arrgghh.

I need to replace my dew wipes on both sides as well as the weather stripping.

What do I need? and Where do I get it.

Is pop riviting difficult?  Is there a specific area I need to rivit?

Thanks all!

Refer to the sticky thread to get the part numbers for the dew wipes. They can be ordered from JC Whitney.
They come long enough to fit a door without vent windows; I had to trim them for my doors.
Pop riveting is easy. Once you have aligned the replacement dew wipe to the trim piece from the door, you can drill an appropriately sized hole through the trim piece and the dew wipe, which has a metal bar inside for support, and insert the rivet into the new hole. The gun will compress the rivet and secure the two pieces. Do this a few times down the length of the assembly and you should be all set.
Make sure you have it all lined up while you're doing this.

Once you take everything apart, it should become obvious how you will proceed.

cougarcragar - Ok check, I'll get the weatherstripping.  Sounds straight forward.

347Thunder - thanks, that was the sticky that l was referring to.

I hope I can get the dew wipes somewhere too.

it's got a step by step guide for a Mark VII. I guess it'll be pretty much the same for Tbirds

Um....no thanks. That's what most people pay for their entire cars. ;)

Appreciate the link and all, but you'll never convince me that two hunks of rubber are worth $200.

You could buy a handful of good doors for $200

Ok, got my weatherstripping and dew wipes coming!  I cannot wait to re-seal these windows.  Anyway, one final question....

I still need the window channel weatherstripping for a non vent window car.  It sounds as if they only make them for cars with vent windows??

This sucks.  Nobody sells the channel weatherstripping for non vent windows.

Just wondering....

What if I were to purchase the channel weather stripping for the vehicle with vent windows, and then cut a piece of my existing to fill  the remaining 3-inches.....

Parts of my esisting channel w-stripping is in good shape.

Stupid... or not?

My windows leak air pretty bad; and I do not have access to any tbirds or mark viis close.

Man, that would be frign GREAT.  I have called every lot in a 150 mile radius looking for cougar, tbird, or mark vii channel weatherstripping.  I'm just frustrated at this point.  Nebraska is like the sahara desert of boneyards.  They really are a joke.
