Who knew? I didnt.
I've got an old magazine with a road test of one. Apparently it was quite slow. Still, I'd love to find one for parts and swap the diesel into a four-eye Bird or Coug for a daily driver - it'd prolly get 40+ MPG, and with the lighter 'Bird it would have to be a bit quicker. Who knows, maybe you could even crank up the boost for more power :hick: Certainly couldn't be any slower than my Saturn SL1 daily driver...
1000 BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Dam that thing looks beat for a grand.
Is that a 4 or a 6,can't tell from here.
It's an inline 6. 2.4 liters, I believe...
BMW made the motors and trans
if you look on the dash above the radio of a pre 90 mark theres a "check turbo" light
only "factory" 5 speed marks (other then a Roush mark)
I would love it if it wasnt such a project.
Digi dashs have check turbo lights too and they NEVER came in a TC
No, but they show that Ford at least
considered it :hick:
the turbo marks also have 3.73 gears with traction lock. I got one in my dads shed right now.
really?
eh id rather have my 3.27's in my t lock better gas milage and better to cruise
Yeah, but you've got a big ol' V8, not a tiny little inline 6 oil burner. The BMW engine only made about the same power as an SEFI 3.8 (only 130 horses, but about 250lb-ft torque). That car would need 3.73's to get out of its own way...
As per my first post, I'd love to have that car for a donor/swap into a much lighter four-eye 'Bird...
as i recall, back when i "just had to have a mkvii, many of them were considered junk when the air suspension went out. I had considered buying one back in 94 but back then, the cost of the air ride stuff exceeded the purchase price of the car. He wanted two grand with 120kmiles.
The '84-'85 Mark VII's with the 2.4 diesel engine only came with a 4-speed automatic.
O yea I know, low end would be non existant on that car with 3.27's
I know theres a documented one somewere....
You guys think that's rare?
I know of an early '80s 4-door Lincoln Continental with the Bimmer diesel mill at a junkyard. It's all perfectly intact, so I assume it had some mechanical failure and the old dude who owned it gave it to the yard.
Hey all,
Before I start, please excuse the "long" absence. I guess after so long of not actually having a Fox car to my name, it got kinda depressing continuing to read about everybody else's. Anyway, Lincoln did put the BMW diesel in the 4-door Lincoln Continentals (which are also considered Fox-bodies, right?) in the early '80's. I'd also love to find a diesel Mark VII just for the rarity, and for the gas mileage. I still think the Mark VII has one of the coolest and toughest looking bodies of the '80/'90 cars, yeah, even more so than the 'Birds/Cougars. I remember loving them back in '84 before I was even driving. Even though the diesel was supposedly available in '84 and '85, I've never seen an '85. It must have been so unpopular that almost no '85's were built. It would be cool for somebody to pick one up and drop the motor in a 'Bird or Cougar, but I bet it'd be a sumbitch to install. They even had a German ZF tranny.
Sorry again for being gone for so long. I have kinda missed it. Later.

Yah, the 4 door contis are fox bodies. They're the biggest one ever made, but they are one lol. I see TD Mark VIIs show up for sale every once in a while on ebay or on the forums. The TD LSCs seem to be the rarest ones.
I still think this would be a cool car to have. What really worries me about it is that it looks like its sat there for years... underbody rust!
