Title: Help I need these wires identified, 1988 Cougar
Post by: Bob on September 21, 2008, 10:54:55 PM
I don't have a wire diagram and this car was taken apart before I bought it so I'm not sure which wires these are. They are all located under the solinoid near the coil.
Wire #1
has 4 black with green stripe that go to one wire and has a connector on it. (ground?)
Wire #2
has two black w/ white strip wires with a connector on it, it comes out right at the window washer solvent bottle.
Wire # 3
has a single yellow pink strip that has a connector on it (blade connector)
the pics are in order 1,2,3

anyone? I tried to start downloading the pages of the manual that Scott posted so I can read them but they are not coming in for me. I got a couple than they started coming in with just a small single dot in the middle after I clicked save
Is the manual located anywhere else possibly in a single download?

What do the ends look like? It's sometimes a give away. I've got connectors all over my 3.8 that go nowhere.

the problem with the evtm you had is the first ive heard of this. Ill check it out.
Wire #1
has 4 black with green stripe that go to one wire and has a connector on it. (ground?) Not sure yet
Wire #2
has two black w/ white strip wires with a connector on it, it comes out right at the window washer solvent bottle. Mine does have a home down low near a diode that flips back one of the blacks into a larger harness. The connector should be there hidden ill bet.
Wire # 3
has a single yellow pink strip that has a connector on it (blade connector)
Mine transitions into a blue wire that i suspect if for the oil level sensor. Check the side of your oil pan for the sensor and sneak out the wire,, maybe its hiding to.

Ok wire #3 makes sense because I have an aftermarket milodon pan so no sensor now. Do I have to do anything to this wire to make it not read low oil?
As far wire #1 goes isn't there a small ground wire that attaches to the negitive terminal? My car didn't have a ground wire at all so I'm not sure.
Any word on the fusible link? I was just curious what it was before I replaced it.
thanks for the help btw..

The battery ground cable should have a small "pig tail" wire that goes to a connector near the battery. It is a blk/lg wire and goes to pins 40 and 60 on the EEC, the HEGO sensors and EEC power relay.
You should not be able to start the car if this ground is missing from the EEC power relay coil.
