Title: First time at the track this year
Post by: Cougar5.0 on September 20, 2008, 06:59:57 PM
I didn't beat my best time - 12.13 @ 116.6 in my only full run (only got 2 tries) and I missed the 3-4 shift - doh!

I did set a new best 60' time which was really exciting to me as I had lowered the car using the stiffer Mach1 springs and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to launch. I got Strange struts & shocks and used the recommended settings and they did exactly what I was hoping for - compensate for the stiffer springs. My previous best 60' was a 1.6, last night I got a 1.56 dead hooking on a 5900 RPM clutch dump!

I'm only 46 - what fun is racing if you just pull up to the line a gun it? Maybe when I'm 60 I'll switch over to an automatic.

Yep I switched at 49... Still enjoy rowing through the gears, occasionally...

Ain't going to pick on him though, he's faster...

I set the front struts on "2" (1 is softest, 10 firmest), and the rear shocks on "4" on drivers side & "5" passenger side (passenger a little stiffer to counter body-roll.

those are some nasty short times man...what tire are you running? how are those struts when tuned fore more "spirited" driving or cruising with the mach 1 springs...?

oh, and what gears and clutch.

id be afraid to break something hooking up at 5000 rpm...

Running the M/T 275/50/15 drag radials. The struts ride decently stiff when set on "5" on the street. Keeps my front tires from rubbing when hitting the corners too, which is nice. If you look at my "adjustable strut" post in the Suspension/Steering forum, you will see that the Strange adjustables can get plenty stiff for good cornering.

ill assume you have upgraded the rear with 31 spline axles and carrier....what gears are you running and what clutch? granted your probably putting like 400 down to the ground, i couldnt imagine hooking up like that with my car.

my buddy with his earlier gen awd eclipse ripped a 12.9 @ 106 with a 1.59 60'. i cant touch that and im trapping in the 107s. i wont get into just how bad my 60' times are. my best 1/4 was 13.4 on street tires with the 5 speed. when i went to the T56 (04 cobra unit) i killed the off the line accel. went from 3.35 1st ratio in the T45 to the repulsive 2.66 1st of the T56. even the 00"R T56 isnt much better with a 2.95. im also still running 3.27 gears so needless to say with the 4valves in ability to build torque down low the car sucks out of the hole. i cant realy drive it out of the hole. its either drive it off the line, rev it and spin or bog it. slipping the clutch just seems to be a waste. i probably should start a new thread. sorry about that. anyway, your car is nasty. id love to see it run up there sometime.

Yeah, 31 spline axles & an E-locker locking differential. I'm running the 3.73's that came with the T-Coupe rear I installed. The clutch is a Centerforce Dual Friction - can't complain about the clutch at all. Yeah, I'm figuring around 415 to the wheels so I'm hooking about as good as can be expected with a street setup.

I should be up and NED several more times before they close the track - usually Fri night, but maybe Wed. too as time is short.

Looks like once your tires grab; you're in the fat part of the torque curve for your setup  =)

What's "SPAR" on the bottom?  Looks to be another letter, but I can't make it out.....

its a long, expensive tow home ;O(

i have a new set of 4.10s on the way actually! i was going to go with motive 3.90s but figured what the heck, most of the mach 1 guys are running 4.30s or 4.56s and thats with their 5 speeds.

I have a TwEECer and use a companion program called Binary Editor for datalogging. I buttstuffyze the datalogs using EEC buttstuffyzer from the same person - see here -> http://eecbuttstuffyzer.net/
