Title: New guy
Post by: kneedragger on September 15, 2008, 04:01:59 PM
Hey boys and girls.  I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Dave and I am buying an 87 Cuogar Anny tomorrow afternoon.  We realized my wife's car is worth more than the loan payoff and it looks great so we sold it for a tidy lil profit.  I don't drive everyday since I live less than a mile from work so having a car payment is dumb.

I'm paying cash for it and it's going to be something inbetween a toy and a daily driver.  I'm really only planning to go for an HO conversion and maybe some stereo stuff.  I'm also bummed though because one of the previous owners took out the anniversary seats in favor of red cloth(yuck!) so I'll probably try to hunt down some SN95 seats.

My main hobby is motorcycles which I used to roadrace, hence the name, and this is not my first experience with the 5.0 I had a 91 GT in Highschool.  I aven't been this excited to buy a vehicle in years. :rollin:

Thanks everyone, this group looks like fun.

Pics will come tomorrow or Wednesday.

Believe me the lack of rust was shocking.  The entire history of this car is Wisconsin and Minnseota owners but since it only has 110k on the clock I'm guessing maybe it was stored or the photo taking was strategic in avoiding the gigantic rust holes.  We'll see tomorrow.

I know these cars can be utter money drains but truthfully, I ride a Ducati motorcycle, this will be cheaper.

I'll throw down some cookies and milk anytime someone cruises through red wing.

Sweet! Cant wait to see it. I love mine I really like the shade of red. It's not a cop-magnet and at night its more towards burgundy/purple-ish but in the sun it really is pretty red, and well....pretty. lol

Yeah it looks like a nice color I just hope the whole interior didn't get changed and it was just the seats.  I might keep the stock seats and have custom interior done to match the stock stuff.  If you still have the stock anniversary seats I'd love to see some good pictures.

I'm also looking at fabbing a center console with wood and fiberglass but I don't think I'll switch to a floor shifter necessarily.

As far as a cop magnet goes, well, I don't get stopepd much more since I know the local cops.  I'm one of them!  Don't worry I'm not the cop that takes himself to seriously, even sportbike riders like me.

A little about me, in pictures.  I like my dogs:

I'm a modifier, when I bought this bike it was dark blue:

Then before I sold it I took the ignition from the tank to the side of the motor, and smoothed out the tank, and wrapped the pipes.  I did everything except the welds on this one.

And of course my gorgeous wife Lana.

My favorite picture that Lana has taken of me:

I often wondered why they didn't put center consoles in the anniversary models, They should have loaded that car to the max in my opinion.

I got it, it needs some work.  The motor seems okay and the trans shifts nicely but the gear selector is very hard to move and for some reason won't go into overdrive from neautral, it has to come up from the other way to get  the overdrive selected.
Interior is rough.  The anniversary seats are actually there but the driver's seat has a large rip, almost as though it was cut across the bottom cushion.  Many of the interior trim parts were spray painted bright red.  I will try to remove some of the paint or I will have to look into finding a close matching paint to the original tan.  Dupli-color makes a paint that I think will work.
It also needs a driver's side arm rest, the arm rest pad was removed from the door panel for some reason.  The consolette arm pad is shredded like a dog got it, the padding is there but the vinyl cover for it is thrashed.
Otherwise it just has some minor fender rust to deal with, a broken passenger side mirror, and a couple electrical bugs to chase down (power mirror switch only half works on one side, cruise control is non-op).  Also the AC is non-op but I am going to go tear into it to see where I stand on that.  Since it is fall and minnesota winter comes next I will likely let that slide until I get around to it.

I know that looks like a long list but hey, it only has 110 k on the clock, has very little rust, and it was only 1100 bucks.

My ducati is the 2000 ST2 with factory had bags, a corin seat and passenger back rest.  I'll buy another race bike in another year or two.

Stand by on pics, I'll shoot at the toys tomorrow.

Welcome to forums. Nice to see a fellow brother in blue. You'll be able to find any parts you may need and lots of great tech articles, along with advise (weather you asked for it or not :D ) among these pages. I really like that Ducati, I just sold my 04 VFR Interceptor about a month ago, and I miss riding already. Stay safe.

Bummer, just found out I am replacing/repairing the headliner.  Also found a tranny leak near the front of the pan.  I'll let the pros handle the tranny, that's a potentially huge mess.

Privateer, good to hear from ya.  I was looking at VFRs when I bought the duc but I got "shot in the foot" on the duc and practically stole the thing with the expensive seat and bar risers etc already on.  The guy from whom I bought it was offloading it because he is taking a southamerican tour on a bike and he needed a good distance/offroad capable bike and he was leaving in less than a month so he was really starting to sweat.
