Title: aod to c4 swap
Post by: woody76 on September 05, 2008, 02:35:43 PM
hi

i have a 86 tbird with a bad tranny. i`m going to replace it with a good working c4 for now. i have checked the difference and they are the same lenght.
I have to flip around the crossmember but what else do i need to watch out for?

Willl the speedom.wire fit?

It's Still A Lil Off, The C4 Bolts Are A Lil Wider, I Took A Piece Of Thick Steel And Drilled Holes And Bolted It Down, Exhaust And Stuff Didn't Line Up By Flipping.

Don't you have to have a new flywheel and torque converter?

i got a panfill c4 with converter, and i have to double check but i think it will fit the 164 tooth flywheel.  the c4 got the big bell from what i`ve learned from the net. i hope to get the tranny in tomorrow. I have to mod the crossmember, think i can move the bushings backward to get the crossmember forward. i think hehe :hick:

nope, but last time i had this transmision working it was ona carb. engine. i thought it needed to be connected to some sort of vacum port. Do i not need to with the efi. (ho conversion)

A C4 ALWAYS needs the vacuum hook up, connect it to the vac tree on the firewall...

well, i got the trans in and prop shaft in. Every thing bolted in except i had to mod the crossmember a little. Now i just have to shifter and oil lines hooked up and add some fluids. Any tip how to get the kick down to function right, i`ll get it to work but i`m sure some one has done this swap before with great resault.

i hope to get the aod rebuilt this winter because the gas is like 8,5 $ pr gallon here in norway!! :beatyoass:

The kickdown basically only operates at full throttle... Not really needed on the C4...

hi.

The car is now runnig again. the swap was a relatively easy swap. worst part was getting the engine/trans bolts bolted up. It was not much room to turn the tools there :beatyoass: :beatyoass:
Had to bypass the neutral switch (easy)
The car feels different to drive, i dont know why but it fells quicker and lighter.

It is fun to drive my T-Bird again :burnout:
