Well, i know a few of you remember me bitching and complaining about my wastegate being a POS, and not letting me boost over 5psi, i was BS'in with a Mustang and turbo ford guy (MonteCitan, he doesnt post much here, but he's around sometimes), and he made a comment "just fix the thing"
i went and talked to Chuck, got a few opinions from him, scoped it out on the car, checked my spare turbo, then decided to just have at it
3 bolts, and this E-clip that took me an hour to get off, the old one was out, and about 25 minutes and some vac line rigging later, the spare one was on
while i was at it, i bypassed the boost controll selenoid using a spare section of vac line i had laying around
all i can say is WOW, the car pulls much harder, it has a little bit of a miss in the upper RPMS, but i suspect its either not having enough gas in the tank, or my autolite plug wires
5psi to 16psi...that is the win
Yea that 16 psi will really wake up a TC, did it to mine when i had the 4 banger in there and what a differance going from 9 to 16 psi, woohoo but i still perfer my 5.0HO.
tomorow ill be getting a K&N for mounting on the VAM, so that should also help
this thing spools like crazy, my boost gauge will show 3 or 4psi, then it slams to 16-17, its crazy
COOL.... Now you'll find out if the head gasket is any good....
always gotta burst my bubble!
if it blows, it blows, not a bad job on a TC, ive done 2 on turbo dodges already
A fullow on a local board, with an '03 Cobra, said just don't blow anything up, when I posted about doing this. I said, it's a Ford, things blowing up is inevitable. I just want to be having fun when it does. :D
I imagine 18 psi will find any weak spots in the HG.
