Title: Interesting tripminder-related find...
Post by: Thunder Chicken on March 16, 2005, 04:11:36 PM
I just went out and took the clock out of my T-Bird so that I could install its brackets onto the housing of my new tripminder. When I unplugged the clock I noticed that there was quite a bit of slack in the harness, so I gave it a tug. Lo-and-behold, about a foot from the clock was another connector, and in this connector are six wires that match the wire color description on Eric's site. It would appear that Ford has already run the speed input and fuel flow wires necessary to install the tripminder! I'm so happy I can hardly contain myself - now I don't gotta remove the cluster and inatall a splice, or splice into the ECM harness! I'll take pics of this harness in a moment and put 'em up later on.

I can't install the tripminder yet 'cuz I need to get some tiny screws to hold the T-Bird brackets on, but finding that harness looks like it's gonna make things a LOT easier!!!

*EDIT*

Ok, I took the pic. The tripminder/clock harness, in the foreground, connects to a jumper harness, that then connects to the clock. It appears to contain all necessary wires to connect the tripminder. We'll certainly find out as soon as I get those small screws so I can put my tripminder back together!

I also circled the non-premium speaker harness for those who wish to install an aftermarket stereo. The wires are there, even in premium sound cars, as Tom has maintained all along. This is the first time I'd ever laid eyes on this harness.

I have heard that all pre-1987 cars have that second harness. Didn't know any 1987-88's had them though...groovy. Nice find Carm!

Ohhh did you ever ask for it on this one Carm:

I remember that thread on the old EZ board forum. I also replied that I was using the second stereo wiring harness for my sony headunit on both XR7's. Your reply was:

"I would rather run new wires".  :hick:

Funny how people remember that kinda stuff??

My car had problems using the second connector when I put in my head unit.  Unless there was some wiring changes in the cars past (it had a system in it at one point in it's life before me) but I had to run new wires to get it to work.
