Title: head gaskets
Post by: grutinator on August 30, 2008, 04:23:29 PM
when choosing a head gasket is there any rule of thumb for bore size. my 347 is a .030 over engine bits its hard to find 4.030 bore head gaskets. 4.060 are pretty plentiful, but will they work? how big can i go? i saw a good price on 4.100 set, but that sounds like too much. is there any drawbacks to one size compared to another?

You should be fine with the 4.060 gasket. Most of the time, you have to be concerned with the thickness of the gaskets.

I just used Fel-Pro 9333PT-1 (http://"http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEL%2D9333PT%2D1&view=1&N=700+150+") on my 408 same thing 0.030 over. Fel-Pro 8548PT-2 (http://"http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEL%2D8548PT%2D2&autoview=sku") will work as well

I've used both as well on my 30 over 302. 4.100" diameter is typical.
