how much torque is on the 85 5.0 cougar stock motor. I think it has 130 h/p at what foot # of torque

5.0 V8 - 140hp@3200rpms - 250lb/ft@1600rpms

These figures are from the 1967-87 Mercury Cougar book that came with the 20th Anniversary Cougars. They're more or less accurate.
