Everyone here should know that a 1997 Explorer, except for a few badges, is the same as a 1997 Mountaineer. They are both built on a Ranger/Mazda B-series frame, as is the Mazda Navajo. Why will U-Haul allow you to tow a trailer behind a Navajo, Ranger, B-series, or Mountaineer, but will not allow you to tow behind an Explorer?
I hate life.
Roll over hipe? Out dated policies more than likely
exactly. uhaul fell into the "OMG explorers roll over by themselves and kill people" media hype built around the junk firestone tires.
apparently they dont know that they are all RBVs....glad i have a mountaineer :tg:
They actually check at your local uhaul?!? I think I could hitch a 6x12 to a golf cart at any San Diego uhaul and there'd be no red flags!!
edit: oops, I forgot, I always show up in a mountaineer! hmm...
It's not the roll over hype. It's that U-Haul doesn't want to be associated with Explorers and the roll over hype. According to the U-Haul website, it is not a safety issue, it is that they are tired of defending lawsuits. However, there are no lawsuits associated with the Mountaineer.
$15 grill, $5 worth of emblems...congradulations, youre now a proud mercury owner.
LOL, that was my next comment! REBADGE IT! :D
That is what I was thinking. Or ductape and a black sharpie.
Maybe L/M owners are too "classy" to drag one of those orange and white boxes behind their ride...
This happened about 10 years ago but the daughter got into a fix because without warning her old '87 Stang quit while moving from FL to NC(backing out of the driveway no less)... Had all her stuff in a Rider rental truck... Was said the engine locked up, so she needed to tow or leave it... Guess what??? Rider doesn't rent tow dollys and U-Haul wouldn't rent one to tow behind the Rider... :shoothead
Ex used her AAA to have it towed up to Woodbine GA where I went to drag it home... Problem??? The friggin three month old Western Auto P/S pump was locked up... Bypassed it and drove it back... Filed a claim with W/A for expenses and did get a little over $100 and another pump... That POS locked up after a couple of years... :punchballs:
LMAO John, it wouldn't be the first time some one here re-badged a vehicle!! :D
This is what a college education gets you today. To make decisions like this
I think the only reason that uhaul takes the mountiners is bc mercury came with Bf goodrich tires not the firestone rollover and kill your family tires. well I know the newerones came with the Bf's it's stupid any tire can come apart if it's made wrong. especialy one thats the same truck with a few more screws and more comfort in some ways
And its funny how it was mostly fords fault that it happend. Ever check the door tag for tire pressures ? 26psi all the way around. I run mine at 34psi on my 98 Mountaineer.
