I got a set of TRX from a 83 GT mustang. I am paying 200 for all 5. I was wondering if someone could take the pic of one of the tire and put it on the thunderbird, basicly photoshop it and r post it on this pforum thanks. Let me know if I am getting a good deal.
Does anyone know how I can fix the dint.
What condition are the tires?Good luck finding new ones that are affordable.I've always heard they are hard to find.I hope I'm wrong.
The tires are the original tires from 83 but I think my tire guy can get them.
$200? Ouch. People usually give those things away as tires for them are $$$$$$$
+1...I didn't even think you could get tires for them any more!
I am going to call my tire guy, Could find them on the internet, so thanks.
Dude, if you're paying $200 for a set of utterly useless TRX wheels (and bent ones, at that!) you're a fool. There's just no polite way of saying it.
TRX rims use a unique tire that has been out of production for 20 years. You cannot use 14, 15 or 16" tires. You MUST use TRX-specific 390mm tires. Unless those rims come with brand new tires they're worthless.
Seriously. You wanna find out what TRX wheels are worth? Call your local s yard and find out what aluminum is going for by the pound. Then find out what the wheels weigh. Multiply the two together, then subtract the cost of de-mounting the tires that are on them, and you have your TRX wheel value. We're talking $20 range here.
Apparently you can still get them new -- from pen 15ER!

$417 a piece for the period correct 83-84 tires.[/SIZE]
Besides the hard to find, $$$$$, too short tires (that you'll never find while on a road trip if needed), ... they aren't very pretty either.
Guess each to his own ... but around here, a TRX wheel will bring $15 as s.
Yep, sorry bud but you got HOED.
The wheels are worth s price and nothing more.
If you want to hold on to them for 30 -50 years and you happen to come across someone that is restoring a mustang that HAS to have those rims you could make your money back. I was quoted $300-320 a tire about 4 years ago. Prices could only go up on a tire that isnt used.
Or you could just wait for a sucker to pay $200 for them again...
I only have ONE thing to say....search owns all.
Whether here, or google, or whatever makes your day...fergawdsakes, look around before you throw money at parts.
Hope those wheels came with lube, because man...you got ass-raped.
(And I thought when I paid 25 bucks for 4 of mine I was gettin shafted...sheesh!)
This is frickin' AWESOME.
heeheeheee
Well, until the "ass-raped" remark,we were still rated "G".I think that makes this thread rated PG-13 now.Could be good. There's potential in this thread for some action........I just hope no more "ass-raping".
Long as some other poor schmuck doesn't buy a set of TRX wheels for much over, oh....say...the going price of aluminum, minus the cost of gas to bring 'em home, I doubt any more asses will be violated or whatnot...lol
Then again...there's no cure for stupidity. :hick:
This box is for Vinnie. It's plain; i.e. no "ass"
:D
In case of more wheel-purchasing...?
Wow,a box of 40 pounds of Rape.I didn't even know it was available by the pound.Must be a Northern thing.LOL.I think I'll hold out on that.It just doesn't sound to appealing to me.I haven't met anybody big enough to open that box on me yet.
well, that box is better than the box i got
from vinnie...

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/gmby23/4ec1e235.gif) $200 for TRX rims
That's a box came to me from the U.K. They apparently have special "outreach" places for previously violated backsides. It's good to have places like that where they can work through their problems and and become more functional in society......not that we want them more functional IN society.LOL.
Well from the nuts on his Saturn to the ass rapage on the rims, I dont know what else to say...
Wow-If I ever buy anything questionable I'll make sure I don't tell you guys!!:makefun: I'd hate to be him now-you guys are rough in a funny way.
Ditto!--Forums can be pretty brutal, but man, I laughed so hard at the responses! :rollin: I needed that!
88TurboCoupeMan01, the coments may be harsh, but they're right on cue. Those TRX wheels are pure , simple and plain--one of Ford's many "better ideas" :hick: . They only have value to a really serious resto guy and I don't think there's a huge demand for concours-ready 1982 Mustang GTs--at least not just yet.
My advice is to stay far away from those wheels. They're a step in the wrong direction IMHO. Your stock 16" wheels are light years better than the TRX wheels. If you want a cool (well, cooler than TRX) 3-spoke Ford wheel, go for the '94-ish Mustang GT 17" variety--tires are waaaaaay easier to get! The only thing is that you'll have to convert to 5-lug--unless you stumble upon some ultra-rare '93 Cobra R wheels, but I'm sure they'll be way out of anyone's price range!

93 cobraR was 5lug as well
Got it! :hick: Thanks!
This Is great.
Haven't laughed this hard in a while
Eric, Where did you get that popcorn? Do they have milkduds too?
Rated PG-13 (For Penetration References)
LMFAO!
Hmm... 40 pounds of rape. I wonder if there are two TRX's in that box?
It would only be 1, 20 for the rim an tire and 20 pounds of PURE RAPE.
Man yall must have no friends cause man I was just trying to get info on the wheels and I am not buying them, So I would say I am going to send all of all a 40lb box full of 30lb ass raping then a 10lb ass woppen ofter the rapping so when the FEX comes to yalls door, yall better be scared. LOL
P.S. I am joken so don't PMSing on me guys I am going with the joke.
Well I aint answerin the door anymore. So......HA!!!! :D ;)
^LMAO!!!!
again... ^LMAO....
Dude I feel bad for you.... you seem to have taken Fila's spot on the shiznit pole....:flip:
Nahh, he ain't even close to what Mikey did...thank god.
Man this is one of the funniest threads Ive seen here.
And dude you MUST be from VA with all the yalls in your post there.
Yeah this is right up there with Corral hi-jinks. Im dyin here:rollin:
Since he said he wasn't buying the TRX wheels..i just wanna say that everything i've said in this thread has been in humor, nothing more, nothing less.
Don't take it personally...just glad you didnt already plunk down 200 smackers for those wheels man. ;)
But i do have to admit..they ARE kinda cool on an aero bird...
There's a member here who cut the inner section out, and welded it onto some other wheel's rim part, and made a faux TRX wheel, that accepted what I believe were 15" tires, maybe 16"...I'll see if I can find that thread..I think the member had a 460 powered Tbird too...*I think...*
I'll edit this post with a link if I find his thread...stay tuned..and keep your ABS* activated, cadet!

apparently you have been told wrong,,,,,,,
My 84 came with the trx and I always had to accept "no warranty" when putting on a set of tires that would fit.
In one instance, i remember setting on a tire that would stretch on the wheel. I was told i was not safe,, i knew it was not safe, it was written that it was not safe,, but each and every time the tires held up. This was even done at a dealership back "beach ford" in virginia beach.
SO, ill pass the message..............Its not safe but you can get a more readily available tire "to fit".
the high cost of the correct tire was an equal problem for me back when the car was only 6 years old,, evidently nothing has changed. Even back then ,1990, the tire cost was over 200 ea. Living on an E3 wage in the navy, our money had to go to more important places.
I learned very quickly from a tire expert down at Beach Ford that the lower quality tires (ie- knock off cheapy) will have much more stretch, and not last nearly as long as a good set. Take that as a hint.
i shoulda read this sooner. so much technical info! ill
never read with my mouth full again.:D
Did I read that right??
Wow. What happens if he does do that? What happens if he blows a tire out, wrecks, and kills himself or some other innocent schmuck?
Hell, he's in your neighborhood...not mine, thankfully. I doubt most tire places would attempt to mount a standard tire on a metric wheel. Then again, I've seen some dumb shiznit lately...:toilet:
Here's a little bit of practical, "as-tested" info:
When I first acquired my TRX wheels, they still had tires on them, worn tread, like 70-80% wear, but I stuck 'em on my white Tbird just for looks....
Well, I drove it a few miles at a low speed, and the handling sucked balls with them. I quickly put my turbines back on, and demounted the rubber from the TRX stuff and got rid of the tires from them.
Of course, I'm sure new tires would handle a sight better, but at 300-400 bucks apiece!? No way...
It was passed to Pimp first, now him. Its all in good fun. I hope things never get as bad as Fila again
Notice no response from the guy.........:mullet:
Hell does anyone remember imgayashell? :flame: :dunce: :pbb: :stupid: :makefun: :toilet: :blahblah:
yep,, you did.
I thought about it hard and ,,,,,,at the time........ I decided to call my insurance company and inquire what was the percentage of car related accidents of any type that were directly involved with or due to tire blow outs. Nothing in this department has changed over the past 18 years.
There were at least two accidents locally since I finished trade school involving tire beads coming apart. Both were during the tire mounting process. One was fatal. The other resulted in serious injury (and also blew the clothes off the guy; he was standing dazed in the Toyota shop he worked, naked). The fatal one was from a guy mounting a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim (which is essentially the same as mounting a 15" tire on a TRX wheel). He was decapitated. The non-fatal one was from a faulty (cheap Chinese) tire. I actually knew the guy that was in the non-fatal one, I went to high school with him - he was the guy that showed up to school the first day in the '56 Dodge the day I showed up in my '66 Galaxie thinking I was gonna be the only one there with a classic car. His Dodge was older, but my Ford was nicer :hick:
There is no way in hell I would ever try to stretch a tire's bead over the wrong sized rim. Probably 90% of the danger is for the installer (because usually if it's going to blow, it will blow while seating the beads), and 10% is on the car operator and everyone he shares the road with (because if the beads didn't blow while mounting the tire they were certainly weakened and could go at any moment).
"I've gotten away with it before" could be the last words of many a preventable accident...
