Has anyone heard good or bad, real world impressions on this thing? I need an angled shifter for my T-56 equipped Cougar because the stock PRO50 shifter is a pain to shift to 5th gear.Well, at least when you have arms as short as mine. :)
PRO5.0 and Steeda make canted shift levers, but this looks to be better for the SAME price.
I'm going to have on of those asap.
Ok, I better not pull the trigger until I hear from you. :)
I had one in my turbo coupe. I have nothing to compare it to other than the stock shifter handle and the full MGW short throw I purchased later. Personally I would just buy the MGW short throw shifter instead. It has far more adjustment. I was very happy with it. But since you already have the Pro5.0, the handle wouldn't be a bad purchase either. Shifting into 5th isn't difficult either, but I have long arms. :P
I wish they took paypal.LOL.I'm looking for one that does.I have a new ripper shifter coming and they may make a nice pair.
mgw short throw, excellent
I just ordered one from Ebay made by UPR.Looks to be nearly the same kind of shifter, though. The shifter is adjustable up to 2 inches in height, any angle for the handle, comes with hardware,insulators,etc.$32.00 shipped. It's on the way.I'll let you know about it when it gets here.
wow, that's crazy cheap. UPR usually sucks, but who knows... sounds way more adjustable than the mgw
UPR? Ick....
MGW mentioned that someone had ripped their design off, selling for less with cheaper materials, etc...musta been UPR.
The UPR model looks decent, but doesn't have the anadized (sic) metals and the same curve to the base of the handle.
I have the handle on my Tri-Ax. I LOVE it.
Just buy an MGW shifter, don't skimp and try to just buy a handle...we used an MGW on the T-5 in my buddies '71 Maverick build...every time I drive that car, the shifter amazes me...lol. Stupid short throws and killer adjustability...If I wasn't saving for a motor, I would have an MGW on order...lol.
Good luck,
Don
A MGW is what I've been planning on getting. All the Mustang people say they're the shifter to have.
Already have the pro5.0 installed and I'm not gonna spend that much money just to get the ergonomics of the shifter worked out. :)
Who cares what color it is?It'll be under a leather shifter boot.As far as cheaper metals,we'll see.If it works great, then it works great,UPR or not.
I'm using a Ripper shifter as soon as it gets here. The UPR handle may be just fine.Who has used one like the one I described?Or,are the opinions just pre-judged opinions?
Its not a color, its anodized metal versus an ordinary casting.
Not that I know it really makes a difference, but MGW is a higher quality design.
I would get that if I wasn't going to get the Nascar short throw shifter or also known as the Hurst Comption Plus short throw shirter.
Anodized is the process of coloring the aluminum blue or red,or whatever.I haven't had either shift lever yet,so,I can't say anything about the quality.UPR sent me two adjustable clutch cables, and they were great. They also sent me a firewall adjuster, which was anodized blue, and also a nice piece. My money says that the shifter will work as it should with no worries. It's like anything else, not everyone here runs the highest quality tire made. They get what works fine for the money (most everyone). It's a shift lever.I want it for comfort, which,I'm betting this lever will supply just fine.No big deal,It's on the way and will be used a lot.
P.S.,I love you guys........in a brotherly way,not a prison kind of way.
Right back atchy thsts good but I want the old school Muscle car look.
Then drive an "old-school" musclecar...
Uh, its a
little more than food coloring on a birthday cake. ;)

Right,it's for the surface. As far as old school,I just don't think the design of our cars pull that off very well. These are a breed all their own, but,in the end,it's all about personal preference.
I just talking bout the shifter.
Turbocoupeman...I have the Hurst shifter on my car...it's abominable...I'm half tempted to rip it off and put a j/y shifter back on...save some pennies for an MGW and put a shiny Hurst on it...after driving around in my buddies T-5 equipped Maverick (with MGW shifter) it makes me feel like I'm rowing through the gears in a Mack truck with my Hurst shifter.
Sick88Tbird do u want to sell it.
I'll melt it down and take it to the s yard before I curse anyone else with it.
really? im runnin a hurst in mine and i love it. i am using the short black handle, are you using the chrome stick?
if youre runnin the chrome stick, you might wanna try a shorter handle before you give up on it.
Sounds like me and every car I've driven with a B&M Ripper. :)
B&M Rippers are so notchy its like they put granola in the gearbox. I thought maybe it was me and Fords, but then I drove a Porsche 911 Turbo with a Ripper and heard people trash them up at that price point too.
Well,as soon as I get my new shift lever and bolt it to the B&M shifter,I'll form an opinion and post it here.
x2
I've never had anything but issues with B&M...every single product I've used from them...shift kit for AOD-missing parts...Z-Gate shifter-had a muddy 4" long cable sealed in the bag(instead of proper shift cable)...shift kit for '72 C4-complete epic fail...
just to name a few
sick: wow, and here I thought I was the only one. That's pretty scary.
Yeah, tell us how you are doing with it. I got the MGW and installed it, its a nice piece. $30, came in two days, and now I configured it to be perfect (ergonomically) for my arm.
I put the optional rubber slab between the pro5.0 shifter and the MGW handle. Haven't driven it too much yet, but I swear the car is quieter and has less vibrations too.
+1 for the MGW.
