I was reading one of the archived threads about the 140mph speedo mod. My question is did anybody get any good speedo faces made? I want to do the mod but I really want mine to look stock. I've seen the link to the one that is posted on coolcats but I don't think I have the patience to try and print one out and trying to get it to match the other gauges.
Thanks.
I'll make it easy for you.You can buy mine for $600.00.
, man! you're always on the clock, when you're logged in!
LOL, anyway just subscribing to the thread I'd like to know as well. I really don't care too much about buying a real 140 mph speedo just too much $$ for numbers that I'll only see at the track and I will not be looking at the speedo anyway but it is a nice mod if it can be done cheap like under $50
One of the members over on NATO was converting and replacing the face... Dunno if he still does...Check out their FAQ...
That should come with a case of K-Y jelly...
Yep,a really BIG case of the ol' jelly.LOL.
Looks like I'll be pulling the cluster out of the 88 sport at pick-n-pull so I can "experiment" a little bit.
first born child,1 arm, and 1 leg please.
I made one, worked great. Just have to use good print media (photo paper starts to discolor around the firm ride light in TC's)
Can you show a pic on how good it matches the rest of gauges.
Thanks,
ken
There was a member here that made custom gauge faces. Panther47 I think. I cant say much about his quality though.
U can download the printal gauges and print them on photo paper, and goto coolcats.com and look for the 199 digatal speedomter mod. From what I have look at mine the TC gauges are different and don't have the W2 place to solder, and the hole mother board is different form what I can tell. If any one can tell me were the w2 is on the mother board for the TC gauge cluster.
I have someone that makes white face overlays for our cars. He is going to make the a brand new set of overlays in black(so they all match). He is charging $40.00 plus shipping. I'll buy the first one and show you guys what it looks like when I get it. I have to take a picture of my cluster at night because he wants to make sure about the way the numbers and the dials illuminate(or not). I'll pay for them on monday and see how long it takes for him to make them. I'll keep you guys posted.
Ken
We're talking about the buttstuffog speedo here, not digital.
Another thing to consider is this: After you install the 140mph overlay or whatnot, your speedo will be INACCURATE!
There's a resistor that must be soldered in, see the writeup on Coolcats.net for the details.
Secondly, I told you in YOUR thread to go to CoolCats for the mod. :D AND..it's better known as the W2 mod ;)
Thirdly, you're gonna look awhile for the W2 position on the TC (and Sport) buttstuffog speedo...because it's not there in the first place! lol
If you (or anyone else) want a converted and working base digital cluster that also has the stainless bezel that you can find on ebay, PM me...I have one I'll sell...
Panther, as mentioned before had a thread in the Vendor's section about custom gauge faces. Not sure how active he is though, maybe a PM to him...?
What is the process for coverting the TC gauges to 140mph.
Hope I am not maken anyone mad but I really want to do this mod cause it would cost me $75 to get it calabrated and I could use that for something better.
Hmm, I wonder. If there were only some clue as to how this could be done .....
If it could be done, then perhaps someone might document the process. And then that same person, or another kindly soul, might put it on a website. That would be "cool". That kindly soul would be one "cool cat", man.
Thanks T3skidoo I glad i am not the only one whao wishes someone would figure out how to do this for the TC gauges. Can I use the base model Thunderbird speedomter, and will it work with my harness. Basically are the TC and base model gauses use the same harness.

Well the problem is they don't make the speedo any more.
read a little further...it tells you how to do it. ;)
You start off with the standard, 85 mph buttstuffog cluster, print off the 140 face, and modify the stock cluster with a resistor so the new 140 mph face will then be accurate as per vehicle speed.
Simple enough?
If you already have a TC cluster, you're halfway there ;)
If not, they're on ebay all the time for rather cheap...I used to have one, but sold it to a member a coupla years ago.
Ya I know just haven't found them on Ebay but I got an idea of making my own just haven't figured it out all the way yet.
This is how you do it, you use the cluster thats in your car right now.:D
What I am think bout doin all I need is spray paint.
I can't wait to see this, please hurry.
if you want to see one finished but with white faces, search for my username in the for-sale forum (not trying to push it, just has a pic of the one I printed up).
LMAO. Don't know what we'd do without you, Vin.
*sigh*
My wife says you sent an IM while I was asleep:hick:
How'd that piece come out after you washed it? PM me ;)
If it turns out good I'll let yall know.
OM effing G Awesome...
i have been missing out.
Even if it doesn't please show it to us. On another note the person I'm dealing with said they can make them-I'll place my order as soon as possible (this weekend).
Ok guys sorry it took so long but I finally got the new overlays made. As you see I requested the tach to actually display all the way up to 7,000 rpm. He was even able to put the t-bird emblem in the speedo. These cost me $80 and are made of the same material(or seems like) the factory uses. He told me he was working on them for a while to make sure the green was the same as stock. I won't have a pic of them installed on the car for a while because I haven't modified my tach or speedo yet. I been real busy changing rusted out brake and fuel lines now:mad: as soon as I get them on I will post up pics.

nice, I'll be upgrading my gauges once the car is up and running and this mod is going to the top of the list.
that's awesome
anyone want cheaper shipping? im in utah right now...
I wish I had buttstuffog gauges...
Nice!!!
The double faced tape better be clear, or there will be black areas when lit...
Forgot to mention that-the tape is clear.
Back a few moons ago, I stumbled onto a...well...rather used...'88 Tcoupe with a 140 factory speedo in it. Didn't even realize it was there until I got the car home. The car was bought for $100.00 because I wanted to TCoupe nose on my sport. In my area, both on the road and in the yards, there are right around a kabillion V-6 models, and only about 3 TCoupes. So TC parts are a rarity. The previous owner, was trying to change the timing belt, however, somewhere along the line, FOR HIM it required removing and disassembling the head :rollin: Nothing like a 20 year old with a set of tools that doesn't understand what a screwdriver is for.
Oh...and I am not pointing this to all 20 year olds. Don't want frost anyone on that. :rollin:
Sounds like the '77 Granada a friend bought about 25 years ago from a guy in his neighborhood... Engine was completely dissembled & in the trunk, orig owner said the rings were shot, wouldn't run but 25mph...
Well we looked the engine over and really found nothing wrong with it...Then he located another 250 engine so we installed it rather than rebuild the orig(block had been wet a few times, need a good bit of machine work)... Due to linkage hookup, we used the original carburetor... Guess what??? It would only run 25mph, because the main metering was plugged up in that carb... With a Jiffy Kit and good cleaning, ran fine...
TC took great pleasure in telling the kid who dissembled the engine, what was really wrong with it...
Well I finally got around to installing the new overlays. Here are a few pics. Sorry for the picture quality.
I want a 140 buttstuffog speedo for an 83-84. :hick:
Hell my car won't even go 140 mph :hick:
