I like the looks of wide bodies and this is just an idea of what i want my xr7 to look like,, let me kno what you think guys!
I kno it may look a little silly to some, but i want to be able to put wide tires on it, without tubbing it out, and the front end could definately use the traction with my bb going in.. sorry if it looks like . the blueprint layout wasnt the best.....(white lines)
I'm speechless
I kinda like the concept. I'd love to see a more refined picture.
What can I say? Widebody work usually doesn't include grilles, tail or headlights. It's just a protruding fender/quarter around the wheel-wells, but tapers back in to meet the stock front/rear clip and door locations.
Take a look at these two guys from two of the clubs I used to cruise with out in Edmonton. Their widebodies are about the best garage-built jobs I've ever seen.

I like the wide concept. It's one of the things I like about the non-fox body cougars. I don't like the look of not doing something with the doors though. It makes it look to added on.
thats different...cool but different. Those little RX7 rotary jobs are neat little cars for imports.
Just how wide of tires/wheels are you wanting?
Folks have fit 315's in the rear of these things with no body mods.
Are you sure? SCCA Trans Am bodies (Mustangs, Camaro, Vettes, Oldsmobiles, Jags, etc.) were widened as much as 4 inches on each side all the way from nose to tail. The grill/headlights were stretched out to fit. Same in the tail. IMSA GTs ran with the same concepts.
Trans Am rules at the time stated the race car had to share the same roof as the "real" car, just sayin'.
That is one sweet mustang. The Mazda guy does nice work too, but I rarely like flares that big, including those.
re OP's question: who knows? execution would affect my answer 100%.
I want to cut along the body lines just below the windows, and add about 6 inches to both sides,. then get a tailight resin kit and mold longer lights, then i need to find a ground fx kit and make that fit..and finally i want the end of the front fender by the door to be vented, maybe not functional but my mental picture is definately better than the one above. not bad for making it in paint tho..CHUCK>>>>>>>>>>as wide as possible, probably wont kno until its done,,, and its not a concept,,, this will be started next summer,, after my bb swap....
I do have plenty of metal fab skills and can definately pull this off,,,im hoping to get it done COMPLETLY by cj 2010 granted there is one,,,
:wtf: wow, that mustang and rx7 look... wow.
Not a bad idea just do a 2nd concept and when you do it the 2nd time add or change something if you want or just do it over and make it look better on the next art concept.
Those also look like complete composite bodies, sitting on custom chassis. I've yet to see a street mod. widebody that wasn't the flared kind I was talking about. And those headlights look like stickers. The Merkur has oem tails, but those were just moved out to the corner.
Yeah, the RX-7 is pretty extreme. It looks good with the proper wheels and rear on, though.
What RX-7? The second pic I posted is a Roush Mercur XR-4ti.
The one I linked to in my first post. ;) Someone commented on how big those flares were.
Ah, That link wouldn't open for me last night. Never went back to it.
Ah, ! I keep forgetting you have to be registered to view 780 threads.
Worked fine for me :dunno:
I say go for the widebody look if you want. That's what is cool about modding a car you own and really like. It's yours and you can do what you want to it. Of course it's all in the planning/execution stages to get the actual result to equal what you have in your mind. You might try to get a hold of some of those shops that did widebody work on our TBirds and see if they can at least give you some dimensions, pictures, or just a place to start from. Keep us informed, not only on this but the BB swap also.
Of course i come to you guys for any problems and ideas i have ,, im only 19 and my xr7 is my first car. i know generally what im doing mechanically wise, but this whole widebody thing,,, i definately have under control,.. id love to see a cougar or tbird with a widebody,, so far i havent.... i was also thinking of mocking up a tbird nose onto the cougar.... only because i like the rear end of the cougar,, but i like the front end of the tbird.....The bb swap is on hold for now, the block is getting rebuilt piece by piece slowly but surely,,,,, cant wait for this beast to be done.
Here's a bit of an example:
I think I just threw up a little....:yuck:
kindof what i want more original looking tho....not rounded...and the entire back end will be wider..granny i hope you spit it out!!!!
is it okay to admire the skill involved in making a car look sooooo ugly?
Poor color choice for the bottom of that car :mullet: solid black would've looked better than that bright :barf: blue. I'd say, if it's a wide body you want, and you have the required skill, then do it. But you had better keep us posted of your progress or else :beatyoass: :flame: :mullet:
Yes, by all means build your widebody, if it's really what you want.
If you want a widebody fox bird, though, you could always drop an MN-12 body on a stretched fox.:rollin:
ill definately keep you guys posted... and its a wide cat i want...im in love with the rear end,,, its sooo shagy ....espesially the way i want it.... and i already sold my mn12 after fixin both head gaskets,,,,......
traded it for my big block and 350 bucks....sad thing is it only had 61,000miles on it and no rot w/ leather and power everything.....
OK, who built the widebody bird? Any more info or pics?
Can anyone photochop the nasty blue stripe away?
I plucked the pics off the internet a couple years ago, don't remember where.
Two things to make it better, IMO. Lose the blue stripe...keeping it two tone black and grey is ok, but all black is better. And lower the stance in front a little more.
I think it needs a big front spoiler/cowcatcher, but I got that part covered. I agree with all black too.
I really like that car.
Looks like a Porshee 944 from the 80's
