Title: Driveshaft Question
Post by: 88 Blackbird 5.0 on August 20, 2008, 10:54:30 AM
Is an 85 5.0 T-Bird's driveshaft the same length as an 88's 5.0 T-Bird's driveshaft?  I know the U-Joint will have to be changed to bolt up to my 8.8" rear.

Yes, they should be the same.

Why would you need to change the U-joint?  The companion s on the Fox 7.5's and 8.8's are the same...

I was at the bone-yard when I posted that question this morning (used my Blackberry).  Since I was afraid that the four-eyed Bird's drive shaft was too short for my 88, I kept looking around.  Lucky me, I found an Aerostar with a nice, pretty, undented aluminum drive shaft.  Needless to say, I pulled it and bought it instead.

I'll put a companion  on it that fits my 8.8 and have it shortened to fit.  Since I've been trolling a lot of old threads, I knew that the Aerostar's drive shaft was a good find.

Thanks for schooling me on that Chuck.  Because of you, I know where to get my hands on the right companion .  I appreciate the help.

Check that Aerostar  before you swap it out.  It may be the same.
