Title: ideas and questions
Post by: LumpyCheeseman on August 17, 2008, 01:41:24 AM
so i've gone through the entire list of posts in this section, from the back to the front, and have seen not one mention of mk7 swaps.

what does anyone know about the mk7 goods?  any aftermarket shocks?

i'm planning on swapping the entire mk7 suspension/brakes in, with a couple mods, and am wondering if bilstein or koni or anyone makes performance shocks.

i've been for rides in a mk7 bb ed, and zomg does it handle and ride well.  the positive is it uses actual airbags, not the tastic airstruts.
all i gotta do is get a more powerful compressor than stock, and add a couple switches so i can kill the airride and dump the bags when i wanna show it.

did you expand the page to show all threads?  there is a ton of mk7 info here and it depends on your choice of seach words.

how about MK7, mkvii, mark7 or even 5 lug ect.

I just pulled down two pages of stuff.

If you use Mustang parts, you have an endless amount of suspension choices.

i'm rather fond of the way the mk7 aiiride performs (the guy i ride with is in no way a grannie driver), only change i would make is to get performance oriented shocks.  anyone know if any company makes em for mk7's?

the mk7 is also a fox body, the sister car to the tbird and cougar.  just different suspension bits.

yeah,but if i wanted a mustang, i would haev gotten a mustang :D

i like doing things a bit different, and after having ridden in my buddies mk7 bill blass with airride (he lives in the mountains in pa,and he drives crazier than i do) and seeing how well it handled, i decided to s my plans for coil over front and and tc rear.  the only other thing suspension related i plan to do is the mustang tubular k-member.

if i were to write the entire list of parts i'm looking at (most of it adapted from how i'm planning to set up my crown vic (dont laugh, i know of at least 3 panther chassis fords that can wipe the grin from anyone's face)) you would see what i mean about doing things different. but i'll save the other bits for the other sections, or my readers rides postlol

also, the mustang and capri werent truly sisters, more like halfsisters, the cougar, bird and mk at least shared the full length body  :D

on a side note, its taken 5 years to shut my brother up about mustang this and 460 that, and sadly, its not because i got the bird, he bought a camaruh

i think that's the main problem we all have. ford puts the mustang on such a pedastal that when a part works for cars OTHER than the mustang, nobody lists it. so instead of using interchangeable parts, you feel more like you're jimmy riggin something in there that wasn't meant for your car.

Hey,remember, the Fairmont is what the Mustang platform was based on.So the Stang isn't even the first. As far as "if I wanted a Mustang,I would've gotten a Mustang".Well, parts are parts. The reasoning behing installing Mustang parts is no different than Mark VII parts. The only reason I say Stang parts is,there are countless amounts of suspension parts for nice ride and performance.Almost no end to the options. In the end you have to do what is best for you,but as far as parts replacement if and when something go wrong, and the cost issue,Stang parts are the way to go.Just trying to help, but, like I stated,it's your car,and you make the decisions on it.Good luck.

Aside from the rear quarters, the Mustangs and Capri's are IDENTICAL...all the other differences are bolt-on pieces.  Mechanically they are 100% the same.

The Mk7's share a similar platform to the 83-88 Tbirds/Cougars, but are not 100% identcal.  It rides on the 108~" wheelbase of the 80-82 Tbirds/XR-7's however, and not the 104.5" one of the Aero Birds/Cougars.  The difference is in the floorpan itself though.

IMO the airbag swap is a waste, but it's your car.
