Title: My 66 mustang
Post by: daboss351 on August 13, 2008, 04:03:02 PM
Well my dad finally got her towed home to his house and I got to work on it. Pulled it into the garage and got it running, and it sounded like a sewing machine, so I pulled the V/C's and polished them, and adjusted the roller rockers. Put everything back together and polished up the air cleaner and other stuff under the hood and just made it look nicer like it used to before it sat outside for over 4 years. Fired it up again and it runs awesome, needs a oil change BAD though, and I ran some seafoam in it and it made a nice difference. Next I cleaned the whole car front to back, polished all the chrome, took the wheels off and polished them, and checked all the brakes. Looks 100% better(I have shiznit before pics from my cell and good after pics with the digi). Took some pics, and a few vids. Shes not pretty but shes my baby, and theres alot of family memories and memories with me and my dad in it.
Sounds  good though!

When it showed up all nasty and dirty:

After about 8 hours under the hood cleaning anc adjusting rockers, and another 5 cleaning outside:

Looks allot better then it did

The vids(one in garage, one out, one of me pulling it in since i cant take it down the road till we bleed the brakes. For a car thats been sitting unstarted for 4 years, she fires right up like nothing! Only a FORD):

got to get the rear valence and front valence(brand new) out of stroage to put on as well as the head light bezels, sfc, and strut brace, then the t-5 comes out, toploader goes in.
Hopefully I'll get all that done before I leave on the 22nd.
All depends when we go get the parts. Would be nice to put the torque thrusts on it but need tires mounted on them

When I come down to go to wyotech for college, im taking the mustang in to get the body work and paint done, and hopefully build the motor!

Sweet Mustang. You can't go wrong with an old Mustang. I am curious why you're wanting to swap the T5 for a Top loader? Either way it'll be awesome when it's done. Do you know what the factory color is?

nice stang, the toploader is able to take more power and abuse than the t-5 i believe.plus the top loader would have come from the factory.but if you were to use the car as a dd i would stick to the t-5 cuz it has od,

Hit the nail on the head
the T-5 is a weak trans. Stuck behind my 351w tourque monster the T-5 complains and it just cant be power shifted, and just wont take anything but babying while you drive, the top loader will take the tourque and the tourque of the motor im gonna build for it. I dont wanna lose the 5th gear but knowing that I wont toast the trans is peace of mind
Plus its a rebuilt T-5 that only has 3,500k about on it, and king is buying it.
Rather sell it while its in top notch shape before I blow it all to hell. One good run at the strip and im sure id blow it.

im still trying to figure it out.
when my dad got it the body was rough but all gold
BUT the door jams are dark green.....
Im thinking about going with a light 66 ford gold, because its a vynal top car, and I want to keep it sorta sleeper looking on the outside, kinda restomod look
but its gonna have 4 wheel baer disc's, coil over front and rear suspension, 408w stroker with afr heads and tons of goodies, and a top of the line racing power steering pump and rack and pinion
its gonna be over 8k in suspension brakes and power steering by the time its were I want it.
Its my lifetime project car, theres to many memories in the car to let it go for something else. I mean the floors and body has been patched, its not a perfect car, but its been in my life since I was born, and its the first car I wrenched on, and the reason im in love with cars.
Shes my baby. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw her after sitting outside for 4 years filled with water inside and all nasty dirty. I fixed that though!

what the hell are you talking about?
top loaded??
I have a TOPLOADER 4 speed
its an old school 4 speed trans
which I found out the hard way does NOT bolt to a T-5 belthousing, only the bottom two bolts do.
and the bell housing I have for it, needs a hydrolic slave cylinder for the clutch I believe so I cant put that in either
Freaking figures...
gonna drill holes and run bolts in the T-5 bell housing so I can drive the car before I leave. Temp set up till i figure out how to make it work...
This has NOT been my week....

well seeing as it wont be able to be mounted to the T-5 bell housing

How much exactly would you shell for it?
I have fly wheel, clutch, presure plate, throw out bearning and arm, bell housing, trans, and shifter linkage assembly
just missing a shifter. this is a original ford 69 toploader, and I know its worth big money
tell me what its worth to you and maybe ill think about it cause if i got enough i could get a whole nice set up for it.

Shoot me the numbers off the tag on it Via PM. I wont need the bell/flywhell,etc just the trans itself.

While a stock t-5 is weak, you can get a H/D gear set from Hanlon Motorsports for that T-5 that will enable it to withstand 600 lbs of torque. Pickup any MM&FF mag and find thier website, check them out. That will be more than enough for your 408 stroker. Nice car too!! Gotta love those older stangs!

the 3.55 gear set i have though will be a nice set up with the 4 speed
and if I go 4.11 it would be INSANE for the track.
thanks for the kind words! May not look like much now, but I promise you that it will be amazing in the end
