So somewhere on here I got the impression that the mini Console in my 88 bird that moves back and forth with the power seat was attached to the framework and not the actual seat itself, That Mustang seats would bolt in.
Not the case, the console mounts to the base of the seat and to change the seat I need to change the console. OR cut it off and weld/bolt it to the side of the mustang seat. I’m now running around with a mustang seat on the passenger side and a broken down t-bird seat on the drivers.
My options:
1) Change the passenger back over to the t-bird.
2) Cut and re attach the Console
3) Swap to floor shift and full console.
I prefer option #3 so anybody have one they aren’t using, the more complete the better, Preferably Grey to match my interior.
I do have the floor shift stuff.Everything but the console.
Cool Vinn, let me have a day or so to see what I can find in the way of a console, If I find one without the shifter I'll get back with ya on it.
Jim,is your car a V-8?If so,I have the correct shifter, cable, brackets, trim panel for the console, and really nice factory leather shift handle.A console shouldn't be too hard to find.Mine was tan and I dyed it gray with the interior dye a year ago.It still looks like a new console and accepts vinyl treatment well.
Yea it's 5.0. And I'm willing to dye if need be just to get matching seats in there.
The vinyl dye works great.I cleaned the console with rubbing alcohol, then washed it with Dawn dish soap.I sprayed it with a light coat of self etching primer, then the dye.Awesome results. As far as the shifter assembly, the cable and brackets are unique to the 5.0 in T-Birds and Cougars only.Crazy, but Ford did it that way.
I have the full console if you want it. It is grey in color. It came out of my 88 TC. I only changed it out because where the shifter cover piece goes the two little tabs where the screws go through are broke off. That is all that is wrong with it. It has the lid, compartment tray, wiring harness, switches, etc. included. If you want it let me know and I will ship it to you for shipping cost only. I do not want any money for it. I unfortunately don't have the shifter assembly but hopefully one of the other guys can help out in that area. I just realized after rereading your first post that it appears to be the right color. The switch arrangement is power mirrors, power windows, power driver seat. I hope this helps.
Wow, sounds like between the two of you that’s exactly what I need, I’ll pm you both.
PM received and replied to.
Vinnie 351.
I'm not listening......I'm not listening......I'm not listening.........Mmmmmm,351..........NO !!! I'm not listening.........
I just looked over and reassembled the console. It appears that "most" but not "all" of the wiring is there. I don't have the harness that runs from the dash out to the console switches. There are a few wires that need to be figured out. When I picked up the new console it was a quick remove deal on a car headed for the syard in the sky so there was no unplugging. I am sure you will be happy to get the console itself. The only other issue I came across is that there are two metal brackets that are missing. The one for the very front and the middle one. I will get in touch with the seller I got it from and see if he still has them. If he does I will pick them up this weekend as I will be down by him. I hope you don't mind waiting a few days to find out.
No problem at all, car is operatable it just looks kinda dorky with one stang seat and one bird seat.
I have bigger fish to fry right this min anyway with some howeling I have that started in the front end that I'm going to need to deal with this weekend. I'm thinking wheel bearings.
Sounds like a good time to convert to 5 lugs if you haven't already. You could always use that as an excuse with the wife to try and justify it. If you needed to buy new rotors and bearings you would be most of the way, if not all the way to the front end parts from a pick n pull yard price for what you would need for your front end to make it a five lug. Actually I just checked on it with Advanced Auto prices and for what you would pay for 1 rotor you could get the whole conversion form a pick n pull. Just my 2 pennies.
Already have 5 lug, 4-wheel disk, 8.8 Track Lock, Stang shocks, Sport Springs, and MM CC plates. And it was a brg, Outer on the drivers side, replaced both and the seal yesterday and is riding smooth.
Wondering what I did wrong as all bearings, roters, seals, calapers, master, and pad's were all new when I did the conversion last year. The outer bearing had dent's in it like a chip of something got in there...???
I think I have the metal brackets for the console if you need them.
Well, not so sure now. Have some thinking to do.
On the way home from work this afternoon traffic on the freeway was a bit congested, I head check to see if it's safe to change lanes (it wasn't) turn my head back and everybody in front of me has slammed on their brakes. Even those 4 wheel disk weren't enough. got me a Jeep at about 10-20mph, his spare tire took out my cowl, hood, both marker lights, bumper cover, already dented drivers fender, shoved that back about three eight's of an inch or so. now the door will just barely open enough to get in and out.
That's a flesh wound.Nothing to it.
Jim that sucks. I know how that feels. PM me with your particulars and I will ship the console to you on me. I know what it is like to be on the down and out scene. Let me know what else you need. I was given a parts car to work with for parts that I need. What do you need? I get a fender and front header panel so far. Let me know. If I can't get mine going at least I can help someone who can get theirs back on the road. Now I know why I haven't heard back from you. Hope you didn't get hurt.
