Title: Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO?
Post by: DVP on August 06, 2008, 07:28:55 PM
So Ive gone from buying a bike to doin a 5 lug swap to now wanting another car within the last month.

I have now come to realize that the best bet as of the situation I am in is to buy another car. The bike I would have had to drive my car during winter an I hate doing that. 5 lug had nothing but good things to offer, but I cant afford to drive my car back and forth from school since I have to cut my hours so it doesnt help the $$$ in the long run.

So I have come up with 4(5) cars that I am working on getting as of now.

There are 2 TCs I founf too, 86 (wants 1600) needs motor installed and a tranny (5 speed car) and 88 (wants 1000) needs tranny (auto),

So I am really leaning toward the SHOs right now. But really they all arent bad. Not sure about the Supra yet might be too much to get up and going. Truck wont start (sounds like battery or starter from what he said. Mustang is well its just a Mustang.

Need opinions on the SHOs though. Good buy? How does everyone feel about them?

I bought a '92 SHO 5spd over two years ago, and I put over 300 miles a week on it. The weakest point is the tranny and differential, but if you refrain from doing burnouts all the time, they can be very dependable cars. Look over at http://www.shoforum.com for more info. They are very comfortable cars to drive, especially on long trips. I have been averaging between 25-28 mpg, driving aggressively. :burnout:

Well I paid $1200 for mine, changed the crank sensor and put on new timing belt. Closing in on 189,000 miles. Being worth it, would depend on how good the body is, and how good the motor and tranny are. One thing with these cars are that parts are not cheap.:hick:

I had a SHO for a while, it was a '92 MTX and it was the most fun I've ever had driving a Taurus. Paid $800 for it, put new front brakes an alternator on it and just drove it.  Broke a differential pin and sold car for $500. If you get 'em just be prepared to look around when you need parts as many are no longer available new.  I paid $75 for a used alternator and it was a good deal at the time.

Waiting on a reply from the guy. I looked up water pumps and a reman is only 55 plus 10 core. I am swapping the motor from the 92 into the 91 so I will swap it then just for insurance. As  long as I can drive them both  home (hour drive) then I'm getting them. Fun quick 5speed car and over 25mpgs! Im all for it. Need to get them soon and do the work before I leave for school. (20th)!

Meh.

I'd go for the Supra, if you can find a harness.

I've always liked those cars.

BTW, is it a Turbo?

There is another thing to watch for, if they haven't been corrected via the recall.

The cam chain sprockets can come loose from the cam and this will drive all the valves in to the piston tops.  Very ugly thing to happen.

That's only on the '96-'99 V8 SHOs, not the V6 ones.:D

I say the nissian truck...

Those little trucks you can beat the piss out of them and parts are cheap and really plentiful. Plus its easier to move a couch in a truck then a tarsus...

Personally, I would stay away from this one. When I worked at a body shop, the only builder we would never buy was one that had any kind of an underhood fire. The owner said it was due to the time involved in repairing them. You can spend hours upon hours chasing electrical gremlins and it's usually not profitable. Just my $.02.

Electrical fires under hoods are trouble. had a van that would do it again after it was fixed. couldn't keep up with repairing it and finally got rid of it. if you do get it, keep a fire extinguisher in it close by.

And they look sick dropped. Plus I couls s with it and make some $$$ but I think I'm set on the SHOs.

Repoed my subs today from my D-Bag friend that couldnt pay me. Now I have to sell them before I can go get these. It does feel good to have the loudness back but not the extra weight.

So I talked to the guy and he told me that he found another 91 that he was going to get if I didnt want the 2 he has. I told him I was serious and I just needed to sell my subs and I would let him know if it didnt work out. So he ask me, would you be interested in the other 91 later if I got it? and I said yeah. So I asked how much for all 3 and he said 1300. not bad but I know he is getting the 91 for 250 ( told me himself ).

So this is want it comes to.

Sell my subs and amp

Sell my ponies

Sell my 65 Stang grill

Then I can go get them. Really wanted to have them up before I left but thats not happening
