I have no faith left in MSD ignition boxes (BTM,6AL) These things have failed on me and people I know so many times I'm thinking about trying another brand. I wanted to know if anyone had tried the ignition boxes Summit has to offer-Particularly the one with boost retard. This is for my daily driver with a vortech and a few bolt ons-nothing crazy. I dont mind paying the money-I just need something reliable.

funny, I did a search and first thing I found was another thread by you today on a different forum...http://forums.stangnet.com/759104-anybody-use-summits-ignition-box.html

according to this, its the same unit as a mallory, and made by them, but slightly cheeper. It LOOKS like it has no boost retartd.
hmm, maybe I lied...

Yay, glad you posted this - I love posting this little cut-and-past picture I made using their manuals as a guide :D

Based on the pic above-I guess it is a Mallory box-with that said are Mallory boxes any good? Thanks for the above info.

i've read alot of threads, the msd seems to be more liked and alittle bir more reliable. The mallory seems to have more options?(Something to do with the digital part?) and not last quite as long. Almost every thread I read on it started out as pro's/con's then ended up being an off topic argument about who's car breaks down more.
Lol - that's why I got the Accel 300+ box. I don't expect it will ever fail since it's all surface mount components and is completely encapsulated so water can't get in and it minimizes hot-spots :D
I have run the Mallory 685 in my old TC and been in the Capri since it came together. I fried one when I had an alternator go dead short on me. Witrhout the box, I have to cut boost by 4 psi to keep it lit. I have run 25 PSI with the box with no issue. Two step is excellent. I also use the single stage time retard to play around (nothing as good as two step RPM yet). The box will also take a 3 bar map sensor to do proportibuttstuff boost retard, but I have not had a need for that.
I really like the box for the price, wish it was sealed a little better, but it's bee ngreat for me.
That said, Id I need another box, I might be inclined to move to the MSD-6-2 becasue it looks more selaed and compact. I need to see one live before I would but that.
