Title: Hot Key!!!
Post by: mtrembl1 on August 05, 2008, 08:07:19 PM
So my key gets really hot in the ignition lately whenever I drive it even for a little bit.  It's almost painful to the touch.  Started about a 6 months to a year ago or so... I'm not entirely sure.  Could this be a bad ignition switch problem?  or just another retarded thing with this car...

man I would say it is the ignition switch recall thing but either way you need to get that fixed asap.

It is not uncommon for the steering column covers to get warm while driving, particularly at night (lights on). But the key getting hot also...yeah, that's an issue. The ignition cylinder does hook into the ignition switch, so that could explain the heat transfer. You need to stop driving the car, take the column covers off, and inspect the wiring at the ignition switch. It's a good idea to get yourself a new switch and install that also. Your problem is either with the switch or the wiring/connector at the switch.
