:toilet: i got my 84 cat with the big daddy in it! any tricks to better millage??? im figureing to getting 10 MPG!!!!!!!!!!!!
start with a good tune up and oil change. then just take her easy. we all know how under powered the 84 cfi 5.0's are. :punchballs:
lol i just put race oil and new K&N oil filter , new plugs a while back, need wires, cap and rotor? but still 10mpgs!??!?!!
If you're only getting 10mpg and it's mostly stock and been "tuned" up, then there's something wrong. No "tricks" are going to improve mileage if the car is not running right.
Either that or you're just driving like an idiot the entire time...
I used to drive my '85 t-bird like an idiot back when it had stock gears and regular skinny tires and I STILL did better than 10 mpg...
yeah i hear they get like 17-18mpg idiotic driving?
Computer codes?
EGR valve cleaned?
IAC working?
O2 sensors replaced?
ACT and temp sensors checked?
You have a LOT of homework to do.
How many miles are on the car?
14XXXX?? maybe maybe 24XXXX???
Does the transmission shift up through all the gears?
as far as i know!
I got 24mpg highway out of my 83 5.0 Cougar. It ran like a top. Something is wrong with your car.
I get 26mpg out of my 88 Cougar 5.0 and it has things to be done to it yet that will help with that.
You are getting way too much fuel, cannot utilize the fuel you have or air is not getting in/out.
not sure probably should get a new O2 sensor?
run codes. O2's are expensive, especially if you buy them for no reason.
Obd 1?
Run codes...
Go down to your local auto parts store and pick up a code reader for $30. I know, I know, the codes can be pulled using a paperclip and a multimeter, but it's so much easier to get a reader, especially at that price. I used to be in your position (throwing parts at problems) until I'd practically replaced every sensor I could get my hands on. If only I'd spent the 30 bucks on the reader, I could have saved buying a couple of things... Moral of the story - Get the codes and check back.
Check the vacuum line to your MAP sensor. My car was running super-rich before CJ and it turned out the vacuum line was rotted. Had it changed out before going, and averaged 22MPG over the trip.
"Race Oil" ?
Is this 84 CFI 5.0 a "race" motor?
well not really but occasonaly its 5-20w valvoline specified for high heat
Thats not race oil. Race oil is like strait 30, 40 and 50 weight.
oh ok i get kick ass mpg on highway! 22-25
