Title: subframe connector pics?
Post by: fordguy545 on July 30, 2008, 12:24:35 AM
I think its time to tie my subframes together in my 88 thunderbird, but I have never done anything to a unibody car before, So I need some pics to show me what I need to do to tie them together.  Right now, I dont want to go over 20 psi on the holset because I'm worried it could end up twisting the car, and I REALLY dont want to do that.  Thanks

I guess the first question is, How far do you want to take the project?
Just under the car? or through the floor

welding them through the floor would be a bit stronger. this way you can use bigger tubing without them hanging to low.

Mine is half done right now and cut out, I could snap some pics for you in a bit when I get into the shop.

I guess I was hoping to make somewhere around 450 or so rwhp.  You know its only a 4 cylinder:)
I would also like to leave the interior untouched.  Trying to make this car as sleeper as I can, and allow for passengers, lol

I was using 2x2 tubing. You could probably use 1-1/2 x2 without cutting the floor. Mine hang down below the original frame by 3/8".

I'm not sure how much frame you would need for the power in your car, But I know every little bit helps. And don't forget, you'll be adding weight by doing this. I think mine were about 37 lbs  per side.
