Title: Good deal on Mark rear?
Post by: DVP on July 29, 2008, 01:53:41 AM
Found a guy who has a rear out of a 90 Mark VII. He told me he wants 160 for it.

Is that good?

He still has to pull it so I might tell him Ill pull it if he knocks it down. Then what should I pay for it?

5 lug has really been on my mind lately

Try $100 to 120 if you get it and $160 sounds okay

There is more on CoolCats than just that in the 4 to 5 lug swap section. I just need to know what all I need to get from the guy off the Mark. He said its trac lock with 3.55!

Does it come with brakes?

At some point, the MK7's switched brakes from the old 11.5" SVO ones to the TC-type.

I'm not sure if the track width narrowed at that point, or if there were special brackets, etc.

If you get it, do the board a favor and take a few measurements (namely axle  to axle  and housing width) so the spreadsheet that Jeremy B put together can be updated.

Lincoln width or TC width aside, both will fit under your car just fine.

$150-160 seems fair.

Thanks Chuck. Think I am going to get it. I want to be able to swap rims easier (find them cheap easier). Plus anything is better than my 2.73s.

I'm still looking for a pair of the Mark VII hinge springs if he has those available.  ;)

Chuck,

It looks like it was the 1991-92 Mark VII's.
According to the Raybestos book, the height of rotors changed in 1991 from 2-3/8" to 2-23/64" and the diameter whent from 11-21/64" to 10-17/32".

Raybestos replacement rotor specs:
TC rotors:

Mark VII rotors:

I haven't had physically checked it out yet, but in theory, using the following combination of parts may be a less expensive and fairly route to converting an '87-'88 TC rear to 5-lug while still retaining vented rotors on the rear.

'94-'98 Mustang axles and the '91-'91 Mark VII rotors.

OK, well that still doesn't answer the question on whether the overall track width changed then as "technically" the rotors are all about the same height (as no thickness is noted).  The change from the SVO-type stuff to the other only nets a 1/64" height difference.
However, since the TC and later Mk7 rotors are about the same height, it's hard to say w/o comparing the axle brackets.

Anyway, the '90 should have the earlier "big" brakes.
