Title: 2.3 Stinger exhaust details needed please
Post by: rsears on July 20, 2008, 10:44:30 PM
I've searched like hell to find some answers, but have either came up short of not finding questions already posted or pics just the same. Please review each numbered point incase you can contribute or point me in the right direction.

I found this thread but again no pictures. I know the Tbirds have a longer overhang so any tailpipes would look goofy if not done correctly. I'm not a fan of welded on tips and would prefer a nice stainless pipe with a slash cut at the end (mustang style).. But again no pics could I find of Stingers pipes installed or something simular.

http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=15646&highlight=%22stinger+exhaust%22[/list]

At this point I'm almost commited to the Stinger downpipe, midpipe etc but not on the rest of the exhaust. I've got a personal idea on from the ler back that would be a custom Stainless route if I keep a 3" single but would just assume have a solid answer on the 2.5" duals if I could find someone that has already been there. I'm already thinking of building a custom fuel filter mount and re-routing lines with braided from the tank to the rails worste case scenario. At this point I suppose I'm going after minimal fuss. :D

I'm not considering any Flowmasters or lers that chamber style or any that are loud. I want to stick with a straight thru style ler but keep the car as quiet as possible...

Thanks in advance...

From the side, you cannot see my exhaust at all. If you lay down, you can see about 1/4" of the cat and that's it. Hell, the only hint that the car has exhaust is that you can see the tailpipe through the rear wheel well.

As for sound clip, I don't have a camera that does sound myself, but I do think my girlfriends does.

I am running the Stinger 3" to dual 2.5" and I am having no issues at all. mine was installed at Shannon's shop (stinger guy) when the thunderbird tails were mocked up.

If either of you guys could post updated pictures of your exhaust from outside the car (side shots) showing what shows I would appreciate it.

I have yet to get a response from Stinger and can't find a contact number on the website to even get in touch with them. Little skeptical to just place an order online without feeling sure about what to purchase.

I'm registering over on turboford.org to see if I get a response there, hope I'm not nagging you guys just that I'm not finding the particulars yet. :D

Would it be a correct statement to say that your exhaust fabricator made the rear most section with the slight turn at the end rather than having the exhaust just exit straight out?

I like the way you ran the single 3" tailpipe. What ler is that (Hooker xxxx?) Is the car quiet?

Thanks for your response.

I guess I don't need it at this moment, I received an email from them, I might want to talk over the phone but email is fine at this point. Thanks. :)

The fabricator pretty much reconstructed the tail pipe. But yes, he did put a turndown at the end. It should be shown in the pictures in the thread you posted a link to.

Im not sure about the part number, but its a Hooker Maxflow, offset/offset, 3". That's a Pacesetter cat, and that also made a significant difference in the sound.

The car isn't exactly loud, but its not exactly quiet. With the windows up, you barely hear the car.
