yep, changed the heads, cam, and made a proper baffle for the lower intake so I dont have an oil burning problem any more....  just tires..  LOL.

My goal is to get it into the low-mid 13's before the end of summer.

Low/mid 13s by summer's end?  I officially hate you now :( .  It's been a year long project for me!

Solid times though...looks like you gave that Focus some hell haha.

Without a converter and 3.73 gears, don't expect better than a very high 14....

So what'd I tell ya???

Congrats on the improvement...

it will run faster with traction.... I ran the same MPH as Kingcars and he ran a 14.6, so I know there is more in it with slicks....  and thanks for the comments.
why do you think I didnt disagree with you? LOL... I know, you know your stuff.  and actually I was impressed it ran that fast...
AND didnt blow up!  lol

that stupid Ford Fungus was there all night, I beat him 2 out of 3 races...  he won the won on tape by a tenth of a second...  we had the EXACT MPH though.  he got slower every lap.:flip:

You're gonna need the converter to get it off the line...The E-cam waits a little bit before they wake up...

A 2.22 short time ain't terrible for street tires...

Till you get a converter and gears, even with traction, don't expect better than maybe 2.10... With a converter you'll definatly need some stickys...

Sorry i know the focus needs some black paint and you had good times but it was sitting right next to you whole track and making you look bad. Also sorry i can't make a single color car Unless i make a Bullit foxbody stang or crown vic p71 in that nice classic green color.

well, as odd as it feels, i can kinda understand where carpimp is comin from on this one. you called the focus "ricer." when i hear the term ricer i think of a car with mods that give the illusion of performance w/o actually having any. if a ricer hangs even with your car, and can even manage to beat you 1 of 3 times down the track, i would infer that your car is also lackin in performance....again this is based on your classification of the focus.
if you had stated that although it was ugly, it did seem to run well for what it was, then the inference about your cars performance would be more positive.

that aside, congrats on the improvement over your SO times! if you dont mind, how much money do you have in this combo?

I class ANY car with dual fart cannons a ricer, I dont give a  how fast it is....

well $100 american...  ($15cdn :p) in gakets from summit...  I had everything laying around already...  altogether I might have $1500 into it...

How bad are ya spinning? Mine should be running what you are if I can get it to hook before the 60 foot mark. I can get the same mph (93-94 easy) but I can't get lower than a 15.0. I will run the same mph all night but vary from a 15.0-15.6 because I really need to learn how to launch the car. BTW how hot was it the night you made your pass? I haven't been able to run when it's not over 80-82 degrees out (the last time I went it was 85* :punchballs: ).

BTW the stock AOD sucks for racing doesn't it? ;)

Yup, best I ran with 3.73s & the stock tight as Hell SC converter(did have the shift kit), was 14.08@101... With a change to the 2600 stall, it went 13.56 again at 101... With the full 2.5" exhaust system(had the remains of the stock TC and a 5.0 Stang prior), a fresh tune up and 50* weather, she fired off a 13.11 @ 105.3(without the tune up, during True Street had run 13.65@102 in 98* heat with a hot engine)... Will run 13.3s @ 104 all day long in 75* weather...

So basiaclly with what I'm doing now I could shave off .5 second with a converter, shift kit and rebuild on the AOD. Yeah the stock trans sucks, especially when it's in a nearly 3700 lb T-bird :hick:

You sure get allot better traction than I do in my yellow 86'. I keep spinning until after it fish tails in 2nd on the track. I will never use slicks personaly. It always sounded like cheating to me, kinda  like having nitrous kit. but thats just me.

yeah I just picked up a set of Gt40 heads for it and a set of 1.7 roller rockers, so now I am going to build a new motor with fly cut pistons and swap them on....

I will hit the track again this weekend and see if I can shave off some more time...  maybe this time I will remember to remove the front swaybar....:hick:

Pulling the sway bar is 25 lbs off the nose (if it's a Turbo Coupe/Mustang V8 bar).  You may get a little better weight transfer to minimize some of the spin.  Are you doing the balance of the old "10 minute tune up"?  Putting on a short belt to by-pass the p/s and bumping the timing to 16*?

Post by: Sick88Tbird on July 29, 2008, 06:34:25 PM
You may not need flycut pistons...if it's not your daily driver, take the time and get yourself a little clay...check PTV clearance...if you got those heads off of an Explorer, you may want to mill them about .030" so you're not dropping compression.

FWIW, don't drop your rear tire pressure...I see so many people do it with street tires and it only makes matters worse 99% of the time.  Use enough air to make a good balanced patch...light asphalt or concrete is the best test area...and air up those front tires to 45psi.

Good luck,
Don

yep I have the ten minute tune, minus the gears.... actually I am still running the powersteering too...  though I do have a REALLY short belt laying around someplace to bypass it...

drag radial are the only way to go if you want to drive it on the streat and strip with out having to change wheels when you go from strip to the street driving.
personally i use nitto nt555 drag radial to give me the best ET plus drive ablety on the street.

.5 second and 3 mph ain't bad for a trans swap. :D

I really need to rebuild my AOD with a wide ratio gear set and a 2600 stall. I would now but I just had a roof put on the house so I have no "expendable" money for the car right now.

yeah still working on the 13's...  the slicks are a taller tire and killing some of my gear....  with 3.08's... they are tall enough....  I am going to swap the TC diff into in this weekend and try it again with the 3.55's and 5 bolt conversion....

I won all four races that night...
first was an old camaro, then a Hemi magnum, then an '03 Mustang GT with 4.10's and exhaust, then I spanked a twin turbo AWD audi S4..  man did he scoot off the line though...  even beat me to the 60' mark...

haha I do have a video of it, but I had a buddy tape it from outside.  there was a stupid idiot in the burnout box revving it so you cant hear anything though...  and yeah for now it is the stock shifter...  cant save my pennies for that... this is my daily driver and have to get it up and going now....  if I buy an after market tranny I am going T56:D

try to pick up a used pro 5.0 or the like when you put it back together. its supriding the differance it makes and will help stretch out the life of the next t5.

eh...6 speed is cool but id probably go with a G force t5 or more likely tko600 if i had to do it again. if you can help it get the 00' cobra R trans. better gearing. otherwise its either the viper or 03-04 cobra version like i have. if you can, get the viper version. if you are going to get stuck with the suck 2.66 1st gear, might as well bennefit from the .50 6th the viper tranny has. both cobra versions are .62 6th.

i certainly cant complain aboout how nice the T56 shifts and with an aftermarket shifter (i have a PHP on mine) it feels awesome to shift that sucker. very rugged but smooth like butter.

No shifter is going to save 3rd in a T5 from continual power shifts...

Plain and simple, it's the T5's Achilles Heal... Busts when you make the gear at full throttle, not when you miss it...

I killed my first T5 also. Installed a 2001 V6 tranny with my 93 tailshaft. Had to machine a slot in the main shaft for the speedo gear. The new/used tranny has a real low first, works really well with the 3.73 rear.

You possibly "bent" the teeth on third or cluster on that second run... Run three finished it off...

Short shifting at about 4500 RPMs(peak torque) will kill one quicker than winding it to 6000 and banging the gear...
