Post by: 88tbird5.0 on July 18, 2008, 02:14:44 PM
when i bought my thunderbird, part of the side molding was already gone, but the tape stuff that holds it on is still there. i need suggestions on how to go about removing it without messing up the paint any worse than it already is

Agreed. an eraser wheel will attach to any cordless drill. Works great!

I just removed the mldgs from my sons car before painting it and used 3M adhesive remover, spray it on, let it sit, and it wiped right off.

I use a citrus product (Aero Conquest?)used commercially by graphics companies to remove old lettering and signs. But something like WD-40, kerosene, diesel fuel, or mineral spirits should all work too, just not be as enviro friendly as the Conquest.

When I was working on my 94 cougar the lower door chrome rocker trim panel needed to be pulled. without messing with the door. I sprayed it down with good old Gunk engine cleaner. Let it soak for then when I tried to se it off with a Bondo spreader it fell right off part tape and all. Didn't even have to use a wheel just some soap and water to get it clean.

A military industrial degreaser - but be prepared to wax the car again. :)
