she was driving along and it started surging the rpm gauge was jumping and then it died....fastfoward i went with the wrecker and got her took it home and checked fuel and spark .well we have fuel but no spark i have power to the coil but not out of it .i orderd a coil pluged it in and grounded it to the body checked it with a light to make sure it was grounded and then tried to start the car and nothing. its doing the same thing as the old one ...could it be the ecm on the distributer.....:punchballs: :punchballs:
Blind geuss with little to no details, but it's a Ford, think TFI module.
Bob Myers
Or the PIP in the distributor.
starter solenoid is my guess and 2nd guess might be bad battery connection

heres the link to the TFI info on coolcats

Hope this may help
TFI and the PIP or maybe a munched aux shaft and dizzy gear
Use motorcraft parts!
I tell you to check what they all mentioned. Then if you find that it is the TFI might as well remote mount it for longevity. I remote mounted mine about 4yrs ago haven't had a problem with it since.
tfi ....yea thats kinda what i was thinking but we call it the ecm.electronic controle module
ECM your definition is right but that ECM/ECU is the Computer. The TFI= Think Film Ignition/Integrated is the little place box on the distributor. But you can still call it whatever it is you wanna call it. My personal fav is "That there plastic thing a ma jig that make the coil fire" Makes me think just where is it that I'm living. Oh yeah HiCkVille USA!!:hick:
Before buying any parts, first disconnect the coil, pull the dist cap off and crank the engine to make sure the rotor is turning smoothly w/o hesitation.
If not, you have a munched dist/aux shaft gear. If it does, then the issue is either the TFI or the PIP in the dist itself.
Pull codes. If I remember correctly, code 14 is a TFI/PIP issue.
hahaha her distributer was loose .....easy fix.and i noteiced when you turn it to where it goes you here the fuel pump cut on hhmmm
hmmmm went to move the turbo smurff and it no cranky...now my question is what size are the 2 bolts that hold said tfi moduel to the dist
small metric, 4.5 or 5.5 maybe?
It's supposed to do that. That means the ECU is getting the PIP signal from the dist. Leave the TFI/dist alone for now.
When you said "no cranky", does that mean you get nothing when you turn the key? Or does that mean crank and no start?
No crank has nothing to do with the dist/TFI.
it does turne over it just wont fire.i ll change the tfi when i get home later
