Title: Engine Shake
Post by: jpc647 on July 17, 2008, 07:44:37 PM
I have a 1988 v6 and today on the way to class it started to stumble pretty hard. Under acceleration the stumble increased, almost as if a cylinder wasn't firing. I pulled the plugs and wires and everything is sparking fine. I towed it home and ran it, it cleared up a little bit by itself, and then I took it around the block. It smoked like hell for about 1/4 mile, then stopped. While smoking it was running fine, but did smell of raw gas. I added some dry gas and a bottle of fuel injector cleanner. Just incase there may have been water in the tank, although I do buy mobil gas. I thought maybe an injector was a little dirty. I only ran it for a couple of minutes after added the fluid when I cleared up. Anyone have any ideas what might have happened here?

Anything I might want to check before I drive it again?

A little more info would be nice to include.

Had the car been sitting?  Last tune-up?

does it run good when it is cold? It could be MAP sensor or its vac hose.
