Title: Engine Oil filter Trouble
Post by: jpc647 on July 16, 2008, 09:57:47 PM
Has anyone ever had trouble with the oil filter on a 2.3l turbo. I was doing an oil change this afternoon and the old filter came off alright, but the new one seems to not go on all the way. Even with hte fitler wrench there seems to be a gap. I haven't ran the car yet, as im waiting for a new starter, but it looks like there is still a space.

Has anyone had any trouble with this? I know this sounds so stupid, and it could just be the way the  looks. I figured I would ask because I started it and found out the hard way.

pull it back off and make sure the old o-ring isnt stuck to the block.

I tried that. The gasket came off with the filter. Anyone else have any ideas?

This ain't rocket science, if the gasket is making full contact, it's fine... If not the threads aren't machined correctly, but if it goes on more than four turns, they are fine... Of course this assumes the nipple is OK, but it's not very likely to have a problem...

I guess it's possible the nipple could have backed out and it's bottoming in the filter.
