Just curious what you other 1987-1988 turbo coupe owners use for oil. I just bought an 87 tc and I dont know much about turbocharged engines. You guys use 5w30 or 10w30?
The owners manual says 5w30 in colder weather(below 60) and 10w30 above 60. but even during summer in mass, some nights are cooler than 60.
Just curious.

Use 5W-30 in weather that doesn't climb above 60*... If you're going to hammer it a lot, I'd recommend 10W-40... I use it in all my older engines, period(course it rarely gets below 25* here, even in the dead of winter)... Tightens the bearings and helps seal worn piston rings...
Newer Ford products call for 5W-20 year round(gives a tad more gas milage)...
I use royal purple 10w-40w year round.
10w40 or 15w40
I run 10w40 in mine.
10W40 Royal Purple or Gastrol GTX.
What weight should I use in the winter.
some one needs to read.....
I would use as low a weight as you can use without having problems. If youre engine doesnt leak, then 5w30 if not 5w20. It does help economy, and probably performance too. Thinner oil = less resistance, "freer" engine.
Another thing, if youre gonna use synthetic, and you SHOULD, make sure you run synthetic diesel oil. Regular synthetic doesnt have the zinc and ash? our stock slider cams need. I had been running supertech synthetic in my car for 3 years and when my motor blew and I took it apart the cam and followers were wiped. Thats when I learned about the whole synthetic and slider controversy.
