:hick: I thought they were regular 5.0s.
No, sadly NONE of the 83-88 thundercats could be had with HO. None. Absolutely none. lol
Ok this guy on myspace was asking. Thanks
John
I believe all 5.0 from 87 not sure about earlier 86 EFI 5.0 came with H.O. motors the 83 to 86 carb motors I don't think were H.O. I believe they just were OHV motors but could be wrong if so someone correct me Please.
Our cars NEVER came with H.O.s nor were they an option 83-88
The only known cars to get the HO 5.0 were the Bill Elliott Thunderbirds, and they were aftermarket, not factory, and just a handful were made. All production 1983-88 Cougar/T-Bird 5.0 engines were of the non-HO variety.
Well than sorry I was under the impression they were the same motors as the Mustangs sorry guys.
Every bit of info you need concerning the differences in the different types of fuel injected 5.0's and their different configurations has been gone over ad nauseum here on FTCF's. SOmetimes the search is a pain, but if you use yahoo correctly you can find all the answers you need.;)
And until I see a invoice showing the install, I ain't believing it was done to a "new" car... Possibly for the customer "after the sale", but even in the '80s, it was illegal to sell a new car with a non emissions certified engine(which the HO was not in a Bird)...
I think (not 100% sure) Bondurant birds were retrofitted with the HO
AFIK those were specifically track vehicles and yes those had 5.0 HO's... Unless I missed something, all Bobs cars started life as Turbo Coupes...
I new a guy who I soild a set of rims from my mustang to a his Thunderbird was a 87/88 and it had a 302 H.O. motor from the factory and it wasn't even a sport model. Thats what he told me at least and he said gas stunk due to the automatic and H.O. engine combo.
I want a cut whe you sell one of your Bridges! :hick:
He either lied or just didn't know the difference...
T-Birds & Cougars were built in Lorain OH and nowhere else, plus AFIK Lorain never built any vehicle which even used a HO 5.0(their other assembly line was Econolines), so it ain't like they had 'em "laying around"...
Not even the Thunderbird Sports had them.
i put an ho in and still get 20mpg at 80mph.... it only sucks the gas leaving the stoplights :burnout:
Also built in Atlanta in 1984 and 1985.
Sometimes it amazes me what some of you know right off hand about these cars. Don't get me wrong, I love the foxes, but I have no idea where they were built, every possible option, etc... I'm glad there's a resource for all this stuff somewhere should I ever end up on the millionaire show and have to make a phone call about the subject.
Sorry I was talking '88s... Atlanta was changed over to build the Taurus/Sable for '86...
;) Correct, all 1986-88 production moved to Lorain. Some 1997 cars were built in Wixom also. There was a brief workers strike at the Lorain plant in '97 and Ford had a contingency plan with the Lincoln-exclusive Wixom plant. I think it was something like a 4-6 week thing only. Not that that would add value to a car...but it would have been cool if someone "accidentally" installed the Mark VIII aluminum suspension components in a T-Bird or Cougar. I don't think that was possible...just wishful thinking...
Only if you promise to share the wealth. ;)
Yep...
One of my cousins worked at Norfolk assembly(was the line maintenances supervisor) and in '94 on a personal tour for myself and a friend, pointed to a rear end and said, Chuck(his son) wanted that in his truck but it's not avail except in Diesels... I said "Lee you couldn't arrange that"??? He said "Nope, would screw up inventory and would be Hell to pay in the front office"...
So here's a case where the part is right there on the line, but not avail... So if no 5.0 HOs were even used at the point of assembly(talking '86-'88) it sure isn't likely one accidentally was slipped in...
Lets say in case it did happen, which exhaust system was used??? No Tbird/Coug ever used a "H" pipe and the iron exhaust manifolds don't fit the Stang(or LSC) pipe... The manifolds are part of the engine when shipped from it's assembly point, would have had to been specially prepared or swapped at the final assembly point... Also what about the EEC??? That too would need special handling...
Basically it boils down to anyone who thinks a HO was in any Bird/Coug, doesn't have a clue...
Case in point as to why Tom, you are my hero.
