So the idea of 3in straight pipes was thrown out yesterday when I was trying work something out to get rid of my cats.
Question is will it be too much for my car? I think it will work out ok but I dont want to be wrong. :burnout:

To simplify....the least amount of backpressure with the smallest diameter pipe in order to keep exhaust velocity high. Many factors are involved - header primary pipe diameter, collector diameter, collector length, exhaust pipe diameter, exhaust pipe length, ler type and flow, and the list goes on.....
For your motor in it's current form - it's got the SO heads and cams, right - 2.25" with good mandrel bends will suffice. You can go 2.5" if you plan on upgrading down the road
currently running stock, heads and cam, I plan on dropping in another motor that is carb'd thinking GT40s mild cam on that one. not sure about how much more will be done to it other than that and pullies yet. Not sure if it will be crush bent or mandrel bent yet. It will be dumped infront of the rear tires. Its the same price for 2.5 and 3 so I figured I would go up to the 3. I dont want to lose power in the long run because of it. As of now I will be running no cat no lers untill I sell my Flowmasters then i will be looking for some round lers of some sort not sure what yet, anyone have any suggestions?
and what do I do with the vac lines that connect on the smog pump ?
follow them and cut them then clog them!
My Mustang makes about 450 HP at the crank.....
My exhaust on that car is just starting to become a bottleneck....It's 2.5" pipe and 1 5/8" shorty headers....
they pull off I think our talking about ones coming out if the heads
don't mess with the 3inch stuff unless
you are going with 400+ small block
you are going to spend most of the time in the7,000+ rpm range
you got some great big blower , super charger that pushing 20+psi to the engine .
if not it just a waste of time and moneyand if your going to do it.spend the extra money and do it mandrel-bent pipes all the way out the back..
in my street/strip 1986 fox body with carb 1969 built 351W4V and 5 speed tranny. it makes around 425HP at the wheels at 6500 RPM.
i use 1994/95 mustang style 1-5/8 equal lenght shorty and mandrel-bent 2-1/2 H-PIPE and flow master lers with mandrel-bent 2-1/2 gt style tail pipes .if i put the long tubes header back on the the 86 .the hp would raise to 475 but it shows on the dyno that i would loose 29ftlbs of torque in the below 4500 rpm range plus they hang down lower than the body .so i would loose the sleeper look.
on my 1980 fairmont wagon i had. i installed a COMPLETE EFI 1995 5.0 -5 speed, four wheel disc brake cobra drive train with some GT40 PARTS for fun. i had 1994/95 mustang standard BBK chrome shorty with the mandrel-bent 2-1/2 H-PIPE and summit dynomax super turbo ler and mandrel-bent 2-1/2 mustang LX tail pipes. IT made 275 hp at the wheel at 5800rpms. talk about the greatest sleeper.
both cars i drove on the streat and at the strip, run on 88octane pump gas. they idle fine at the stop lights, when it put the pedal to the floor, they have no problem getting to the higher rpms.
the wagon:burnout: was the funniest to drive of the two ON THE STREET.
