well i don't know what is up with things. but the last six weeks have been pure hell. the shop is dwindeling down to nothing. now i make $20 hr flat rate. and here lately i've been lucky to make 10 hours a week. in fact this week i told john i'm staying home with hte little one so i don't have to pay the $150 a week day care. its actually cheaper. last week i took home $165.08. between this and the fighting with the wife i'm at my wits end. i've never felt this bad in my almost 40 years. i feel like such a looser. i know its not my fault but you know how it is with male pride and all that. the only good news i've had is i might have a job with advance auto in their commercial division in fact i have to take the parts pro test this afternoon. i just don't know what to do any more. i feel strange putting this out there but i have no one else i can turn to, or talk to. well thats enough for now i don't want to bore y'all. thanx for listening
Man, it happens....and I know it's male pride. But everyone everywhere is hurting.
It's terrible with all of the prices going up and the wages aren't going up along with them. I can easily see another depression happening soon. It's scarey what our kids have to look forward to.

Keep a positive attitude man, I know it can be almost impossible, but it will help in other areas of your life like personal relationships. Do what it takes for the short term while formulating a plan for the long term. You may have to sacrafice in some areas such as buying car parts, or premium cable chanels... make the changes in the short term.
I've been there, man. You can do it. Keep your head up. Do not feel bad for asking for help. Also, do not feel bad bringing this to us. Sometimes just getting it off your chest helps a ton.

Thats no good but with your skills could you work on your friends car and make a little extra cash? or surely there is something you can do extra that maybe can make some extra cash. I hope it all works out for you and soon at that try and have a positive outlook or at least think of some work your neighbors might need done that they can't do or may not have the time to do maybe yardwork?

I remember the days of dealership work and flat rate pay. Back then (late 90's) things were not anywhere near as bad as they are now.
Honestly.. I risk my life on a daily basis with my job but the job security is pretty good.

Sometimes, you have to totally switch gears and job fields to find something that works for you.
Thats what I did. I was in Automotove from the day after Highschool untill 2006 when I went into Law Enforcement. I got sick and tired of the job hopping and the fear of that pink slip everyday.
Now I hand out the "pink slips" LOL..:evilgrin:

I had to make a very tough choice 3 1/2 years ago.I worked for a company for 24 1/2 years and for the last 5 years that I was there,I feared being laid off.so I finally made the decision to leave,making alot less money than I was,but I dont regret doing it for a second.
me and my wife learned to adjust to our new income and I am now a much happier/sane person ,than I was 3 1/2 years ago.so keep your head up and do whats best for you and your family.............things will work out for you.

Hang in there my friend.If you can get the job with Advance,take it.It's better money than no job at all,and while you're there,just keep your eyes open for a better job.You may like Advance,plus,you get a discount.I've been thinking about working just a few hours a week at Autozone as part time,then,20% off my parts,and first pick at close out stuff.,minimal hours,and a few extra bucks as well.There's always a good side (I'm Irish,I was brought up believing that)....LOL).You'll do fine,don't let it all work you into a funk that's going to be very hard to get out of.Hold your head high,and do what you have to do.You can handle this.

Seriously,just take things one day at a time,and do your best all day,so,when you go to bed at night,you can sleep well knowing you did all you could do.Also,you stated that you and yours were fussing.Watch that during times like these.The job situation and other things can add fuel to the fire and turn small problems into larger problems that can't always be easily fixed.Don't say anything you can't take back,once harmful,hurtful words are said,the damage is done.Take care of your wife,and think before you talk.During hard times,you have to be a team (sounds cheesy,I know).Strength in numbers so to speak.When you feel at your wits end,talk to us a little and cool down before it gets worse.I'm easy to find if you need to yell a little and vent.Stay strong.

You know what you got to do and you care enough to do it so things will come though in the end.
Sorry I didn't read this sooner. "Experts" say in order to get a job, one has to work 8 hours a day looking for a job. A job becomes a job. On the flip side, I believe there's always a need for CNC machinists, and going to a tech school for 2 years to become one, it may be worth it. Just a thought.
