Does anyone know anything about the 1987 turbo coupe automatic transmission? I am looking at a Turbo Coupe locally and its going to need a front seal, possibly a pump.
I have been contemplating wheter I want to rebuild it. It has 133,xxx miles and the transmission guy I talked to needs a little more information than its an 87 4aod tranny. I don't know what he means.
Also, just out of curiosiry, are the 4 cyls auto transmissions the same as the v6 thunderbird trannies? My owners manual states its an a4LD tranny. I have been told that the 6 cyl and 8 cyl cars had the same tranny. I did a little research and I found the A4LD was used on 4 cyl and 6 cyl cars. Therefore the automatic tranny was the same in the tbird regardless of engine size. Correct?
Please help.
87-88 6+8 cyl. used AOD's.Tc's used A4LD's.
kitzdnm,
Seeing the a4ld was used in v6 Explorers, would the aod 4 speed tranny from a 1988 v6 bolt to the turbo coupe?
Good question, but I don't know if it bolts up.or what you would do about missing some rear shaft if its 4whl.drive.
I dont think it would, but I am not 100% sure. I do know that AODs do not have removable bellhousings, and that most of them bolt up to small block Fords. The A4LD had a removable bellhousing and there for adapted to a different vehicle if the bolt pattern happens to be different.
