Title: Grand Am Accents...showing off my paint skills
Post by: cougrrr302 on June 26, 2008, 10:34:14 PM
Two weeks ago I decided to actually go through with my plans to paint some accents on my Grand Am SC/T. I love blacked out vehicles but this needed something. I looked through the SIKKENS color chip book picked out a custom color and the closest matching was a Kawasaki color. I mixed the custom color which has less yellow in it thank god and heres the results. Im redoing the back of the spoiler to flow with the lines, and Im gonna do something with the sides(undecided yet). I bought green LED underglow for it, the only non performance mods I will do to any car and its only this one.

Heres my photobucket with the prepping, masking and painting pics. We use SIKKENS paint and I was using a SATA 3000. Scuffed with a Norton 800 grit wet prep pad until clear had no shine left, then cleaned, masked and two light coats of green, then two coats of clear.

that's pretty cool looking. What tape do you like to use for masking to get a crisp line?

Not bad, good to see some cool little projects like this. Only thing I would probably change would be the color. I would do a silver or grey.

looks good!!!
only thing I would add is the small line that runs across the trim and bumpers, in that green would look killer!

daminc: I think its 3M or Norton masking tape and the fine line is some odd name I'll have to check out.

turbo88: I thought about grey or silver, but the idea for the hood came from a picture of a Grand Am with Silver like this, so I ruled it either Metallic Maroon to match the interior lights or Green(gfs favorite color). Found the right color and went to town.

Blackjack: Im taking my ASE tests for Auto Collision/Repair certification. Good luck its fun, I just want to do more custom stuff. I want to own my own shop soon.

Daboss, Carpimp: The molding stripe I was gonna paint, but not on the bumper just between the wheels. I dont want to do too much to it, just enough to blend the front and back together. Ive been toying with Ideas.

Thunderjet: My whole car is dirty!! I wash it and then what do ya know it RAINS! I hate it, It needs a good cleaning again, but I make sure when its clean, its CLEAN! lol.

Thank you! Im not that great lol. I am glad I can do custom stuff and Im so eager to do more. We have a bunch of hoods off of new 08 chevy pickups laying around from hail damage and Im gonna try some more custom stuff with a minijet. Try my flames and a few ideas for a bike. Im gonna paint a few more things on the car, so there will be updates.
